Inside the Numbers Round 8 Wrap

Pete goes inside the numbers for aflratings.com.au.

After Round 6 Fremantle were ranked 16th averaging 1527.0 fantasy team points, in the last 2 weeks they were ranked 3rd averaging 1766.5 fantasy team points and have the all-important Round 13 Bye for those coaches looking to back end their Bye structure. Brad Hill has taken his game to the next level with scores of 159 & 123 from his last 2 games, Michael Walters has also seen more midfield time delivering a monster score of 137pts in Round 8.

Stephen Hillโ€™s return to the Fremantle team is imminent and could impact individual performances, Brad Hill has averaged 88.8pts with Stephen Hill in the team & 120.0pts without Stephen Hill whilst Michael Walters has averaged 54.6pts with Stephen Hill in the team & 87.3pts without Stephen Hill. In response to being asked whether or not Michael Waltersโ€™ role was long term in the midfield Ross Lyon stated โ€œI think it’s a bit of both”, previous history relating to Ross Lyon giving away his true thoughts are poor and as a result the scoring for B.Hill & Walters could be volatile in the short to medium term.

The other battle going on at Fremantle are the numbers between Nat Fyfe & Lachie Neale, there has been a distinct shift in fantasy output from Fyfe since Round 4 as he has averaged just 83.2pts between Rounds 4-8 compared to his Rounds 1-3 average of 112.0pts. At the exact time Fyfeโ€™s numbers dropped the output for Neale spiked averaging 92.3pts between Rounds 1-3 & 110.6pts between Rounds 4-8, Fremantle has won 5 of their last 6 games and Fyfeโ€™s numbers have been well below par for many fantasy coaches.
