The Weekend Wash-Up – Round 11

Matt has the highs and lows from R11 … don’t miss the podcast!

The boys continued to mirror each other’s scores, while our rucks were an issue once again. What a shocker. It’s time for the weekend wash-up…

LEGENDS

Grundy (119) – Absolutely bathed Tim English, which should come as no surprise. One is an elite ruckman, one is not.

Gulden (119) – It felt like another monster score gone begging with that 10 point last quarter, but the 150 isn’t far away… I think you need him. Still ticking over.

Warner (115) – Just another lazy 25 and 4 for Cheeksy this week, some player.

Ryan (144) – A last 5 of 125 and now averaging 110 for the season. 80% of us laughed, congratulations to the 20% of smart coaches.

Clark (128) – I called his ceiling breaker last week, and BOOM! Gun.

AFL 2024 Round 11 - Walyalup v Collingwood - A-49632554

Sharp (105) – Speaking of gun players….. This has now turned into a total game changer. The one that got away…

Daicos (133) – Watching him go about his stuff live was painful… He has been SO good, 120 average in his last 5. Genius miss from me.

Crisp (105) – First quarter I was fearing the worst…  By the final siren I felt robbed of a 130! Tackling machine and locked into that role.

Xerri (120) – The X man said have some of this idiots. It was a completely fair trade out, but the Grundy Xerri combo was back.

Fisher (112) – All scores above 100 since the vest averaging 109. What alternate universe is this? A must have after his bye.

Holmes (116) – Homma is him, there’s nothing left to say. Not over thinking pre-season picks was a key for me this season, and Holmes and Clark have paid off. The bonus – He is now a pure mid. All in.

AFL 2024 Round 11 - Geelong v GWS - A-49685061

Ridley (132) – The Riddler! You couldn’t do it… Could you? I don’t think so.

Amon (125) – Now averaging 110 in his last 3, is he figuring this half back role out? We’ve seen it with Sheezel, Flanders, Martin… The ceiling is there and Amon can’t be ignored.

Day (102) – 98 in his last 3 and back to back tons against tough opposition, Will Day is a brilliant pick up this week. Even if it doesn’t go as well as hoped, he can make some cash and go on his round 15 bye. He’s in for me.

Lohmann (98) – King Kobra Kai.

Max Gawn (152) – 27 disposals had stole Marshall’s lunch. He did me two services here. What a LEGEND!

Salem (133) – The Saints back tax is so real.

Steele (122) – Do my eyes deceive me? 10 marks!!! And only 2 tackles?! This could’ve been a 150.

AFL 2024 Round 11 - Narrm v Euro-Yroke - A-49706742

LOSERS

English (91) – Just take a look at this blokes shin pads as he lines up to play. It says it all. At least Jordan Sweet owners didn’t pay $975k for their lumbering oaf. I thought Tim was at least meant to be good around the grounds, but Grundy bloody owned him. Embarrassing.

Richards (66) – Ed Richards looked like Gary Ablett jr. for 2 quarters, that concussion sucked. He is legit.

Macrae (58) – Washed. Finished. El finita. It’s just sad at this point, any good memories we once had have been burned beyond recognition. He is awful, get him in the bin.

Jackson (67) – What else did we expect really. At some point he may be the answer to our forward lines, but it won’t be with Sean Darcy in the team.

Fyfe (48) – See Macrae comments. Have mercy. That rest did him a whole lot of good!

Powell (73) – 14 disposals… I called it in the first game I watched him play. Just a bang average player. So glad to be rid of him.

Sweet (66) – This isn’t right. He might be dropped again next week! I can’t see him surviving past his bye and Soldo’s return, just a total sh*tshow.

Rozee (43) – Apparently he hurt his ankle? Woe is me Connor, a couple niggling injuries and he has tilted his head way beyond 45 degrees. It’s dragging along behind him. So, I look forward to welcoming him in at the back end of the byes! If you held…. Well, I don’t blame you for packing it up this season.

Flanders (-) – Most had forward line cover, but this is exactly why I hate rolling lockouts. In the middle of a Saturday afternoon with local footy on around the country, you had to have your laptop ready. Yuck. That shouldn’t be an advantage.

Anderson (67) – The Noah Anderson experience, don’t say I didn’t warn you. If a bloke breathes on him he will go 70. Then drop a 120 next week. Bizarre stuff.

Dempsey (43) – This is his last mention. Good riddance.

Clark (61) – The good news, he played and scored 61! The bad news….. He is suspended just as we finally need him. Not only that, he belted my boy Whitfield! Quick shoutout to him, I thought of him as a fair weather footballer but if I copped those hits, not only am I out for the game I’m out for a month. What did he do to the Cats…

Green (91) – What a genuine disgrace Tom Green has been as a trade in. Do I even want this guy? I guess I haven’t been hurt yet… And he is so damn cheap… Welcome Tom.

Baker (72) – Don’t bother upgrading your forwards.

Caldwell (74) – Don’t bother upgrading your forwards.

Moore (69) – DON’T BOTHER UPGRADING YOUR FORWARDS!!!

Marshall (63) – First of all, I apologise to any poor soul who traded Rowan Marshall in this week. Trust me, it wasn’t as painful as trading him out. This is the Rowan Marshall I had to watch a few weeks ago. Max Gawn’s son. Total fraud of a ruckman, but handy when he can rag doll a ruck for 20 clearances.

Soligo (37) – Just brutal stuff. If he actually not injured? That would be a one way trip to the never again list for me. So much for those fixtures…

THIS GAME SH*TS ME

I’ve been holding off lately, but here we go. My 6 round R2 average – 83. F**king 83. The worst part is I spent a million dollars on this player in 5/6 weeks!!! In fact, Sweeta beat that average in his crack at it. There’s always one spot in your team that not only screws you, but continues to go back for seconds and thirds for the remainder of the season. My bloody R2. What could have been. This game sh*ts me.

THE OTHER BITS AND PIECES

2246, overall rank 1688. Solid, but again not spectatular. It’s not making me angry, but it’s not got me in the hat chase. A season of mediocrity, but I know it could be worse!! How good is it seeing three trades upon lockout…

Howes -> Parker (?)

H.Thomas -> Kennedy

Bonner -> Day

Ah, the byes….. I’m looking forward to next week. Yep, I’m a sicko. Be sure to check out the podcast where I go into much more depth on the round that has been! Good luck next week legends.

Could Jordan Ridley for Whitfield be a possible trade option?

wouldn’t say so.. Ridley played the Tigers VFL team mostly, and Whitfield put up a 90 despite 2 decent knocks to the head.. the Riddler needs 10+ marks to hit 100 (from the last couple years games) which isn’t going to happen most weeks..

J. Richards being out has messed my plans up big time, but i’m not alone in that regard.. my 1st trade is bringing in Salem for H. Garcia, giving flexibility through the bye rounds with Crisp..

in any case, i’m currently divided across the following options, of which none are GREAT..

1. McAuliffe + Harrison with $299k left
2. D’Ambrosio + McAuliffe/Harrison with $13k left
3. Boak + 200k rook with 2k left

leaning towards 1 atm as it gives me the $$ to upgrade Reid to Gulden plus gives me fairly decent rookies.. option 2 is a hail mary and keeps cash flow with a decent rook.. option 3 feels safe-ish, but who knows what Boaks role will be when Rozee is 100% again (his last 3 scores are his best for the year)..

Can bring him in for the instant price rise and potential good scoring, if he flops, get rid at bye.

I’m gutted he put his name up in lights like that though. Needed him as POD to try and make up some ground.
