Good Friday Fantasy Fill Up – Rd. 4

Grab a knock off froth and get set for round four and the Easter weekend.

Welcome to a Friday arvo column that hopefully helps you get set for the weekend ahead. I’ll be looking at the key points/questions that have popped up during the week with some quick fire opinions, plus a look at how the mighty Warne Dawgs are looking ahead of the coming round.

Don’t miss:

And a couple of bonus things for this week…

Things to know for the Easter round

Our first long weekend of footy for the year with our Thursday game last night and extends all the way through to the Monday with the Cats v Hawks clash at the MCG.

We are used to the Sunday teams being trimmed to 22s on Fridays at 5pm AEST. The Good Friday game (North Melbourne v Carlton) will have started before knowing these. Roos v Blues starts at 4:20pm AEST.

Coupled with this is that Monday 22s aren’t finalised until Saturday at 5pm … however, some would argue that a Geelong 22 is never finalised.

At the bottom of the post are all the game times.

As an extra thing to think about with teams, in a fortnight we have the Anzac round which sees the tradtional Essendon v Collingwood game played on the Tuesday. We actually won’t get squads for that. Just final teams the night before at 6:20pm. This will be a challenge … as well as the Monday night timeslot for the Melbourne v Richmond game. We’ll get those final 22s on Saturday at 5pm. But, that round doesn’t have a Thursday night game.

See below for the schedule of team release from the AFL.

What to do with Sheed

A broken throat? Bloody hell. Poor bloke.

Dom Sheed is a trade for the 10% of the competition who still have him – and have been wanting to move him.

The aim should be to move him up. I doubt there’s a mid-pricer you want to try too hard to get at this stage. Maybe Will Day (via a DPP switch), but otherwise, I wouldn’t have a lot of confidence as the preferred play, in my opinion, is ditching another mid-priced player to get to the guns ‘n’ rookies play.

I’ll discuss my trades later, but moving on a James Worpel, Finn Callaghan, Jason Horne-Francis, Charlie Constable, etc is something I would be wanting to do. Go down to Jacob Van Rooyen, Will Phillips, Bailey Humphrey, Josh Fahey (if selected) etc with one of them and the upgrade with the other.

See what you can get to. But… still look for value. Josh Kelly over Clarry, Lairdy and Andy Bray.

Not having Daicos sucks

What’s the point of this section? Just a sook.

Second-year Pie Nick Daicos is the complete package … and it doesn’t matter what role he plays. He’ll get the ball, somehow. 38 disposals and 2 goals last night for 126. Hope you’re taking the VC if you have it on him.

Bloody hell. It is a hard watch not owning him.

Upcoming DPP updates

Three times a season, the stats gurus over at Champion Data update positions in AFL Fantasy. This has been happening for a decade now. They’re scheduled to be updated ahead of rounds 6, 12 and 18.

Dual-position player (DPP) updates are awarded to players who have a single Fantasy position and are lining up in a different position more than 35% of the time. ‘Lining up’ refers to where they are on the ground for a centre bounce. They also need to have played four of the five games.

After round five we will have our first lot. What can we expect?

The obvious, and popular, ones are Harry Sheezel and Jack Ziebell. The young gun has been lining up 100% in defence while the veteran has done the same after spending his 2022 forward. Lachie Whitfield should add DEF status, too, alongside Lachie Ash.

It looks like we will see historic 100+ scorers Taylor Adams and Ben Keays gaining FWD status.

Bailey Smith is looking super-likely to be a FWD in a couple of weeks’ time. He’s clocking in 55% forward. Teammate Jack Macrae is just under 30% at the moment and is a big watch. Does he spend too much time on the wing? Maybe.

Of course there are the Will Day type players who will gain MID status. They aren’t hugely Fantasy relevant, but add flexibility. Could be handy for byes … and especially in Draft.

Warne Dawgs – Round 4

Oh boy, oh boy… I have made an error. On a Thursday night we’re busy doing out livestrea then I have to edit the audio to upload, cut up some sections for social, prepare our Friday preview video… while running eyes over my team before the first bounce of Thursday night footy. I had subbed Darcy Wilmot on my bench.
