AFL Teams 2025: Round 5 (Gather round)

Thursday – Early news

Teamsheets have dropped! This week is Gather Round! All nine games will be played in Adelaide across multiple venues. Expect an exciting weekend of footy with every team competing in South Australia.

The big update tonight is Tom Stewart is out for the Cats, a popular upgrade target this week. Izak Rankine is a test tonight so all eyes on the Crows lineup. Nathan O’Driscoll (ankle, 4-6 weeks) and Will Day (foot, 3-4 months) have also been ruled out long term. George Wardlaw will likely return, which could affect midfield time for some other North Melbourne players. Finn O’Sullivan (illness) has recovered and will be available. Xavier Lindsay is also listed as available for Melbourne. Luke Jackson (hamstring, 2-3 weeks) is out, meaning ruckman Sean Darcy should get the recall for Fremantle. Darcy Parish is a test for Essendon, but Jye Caldwell has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and will miss around 4 weeks. Marc Pittonet is a test, and if selected, could impact those relying on Tom De Koning. Jack Steele remains a test for St Kilda. A possible forward downgrade option, Jack Hutchinson, who scored an impressive 70 before injury, is also a test and a chance to return. In terms of debuts, at least 1 confirmed with Cooper Hynes (Mid $283k) to debut for the doggies. UPDATE Clohesy is in for Stewart and is sub. Rankine is named. Zac Taylor is sub for crows

Notes: Stewart is out with gastro for this game. The inclusion of Blicavs and Stanley holding gives great concern on the role of Sam De Koning, making him a popular trade-out this week. Those who held Mitch Knevitt will be pleased he is back in. Matt Crouch returns for the Crows, likely affecting the role of James Peatling after his strong performance last week. UPDATE Clohesy is in for Stewart and is sub. Rankine is named. Zac Taylor is sub for crows

GAME 3: North Melbourne vs Gold Coast Suns

Notes: FOS (Finn O’Sullivan) is in for North Melbourne, and interestingly Zac Fisher is an in as well. Possible cashcow option Matt Whitlock is straight back out this week.

GAME 4: Carlton vs West Coast Eagles

Notes: Blues blood another rookie with Matthew Carroll (Def $230K), but rookie Ashton Moir is out. Jack Hutchinson is back in. Much reported Tim Kelly has been dropped. Pittonet not included so TDK owners can breath a sigh of relief.

GAME 5: Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane Lions

Notes: Luke Cleary is a possible cashcow option in for the Dogs, and we see a debut for Cooper Hynes.

GAME 6: Melbourne vs Essendon

Notes: Good news if you held Xavier Lindsay who is back in for the Dees. Caldwell is out as we knew, and so is injured rookie Edwards.

GAME 7: Richmond vs Fremantle

Notes: Unfortunately after gunning rookie Sam Lalor is out with reportedly an injury. Jonty Faull and Campbell Gray are possible debuts. For Freo we already knew about Luke Jackson and NOD, Corey Wagner was a POD cashcow who is out as well. Sean Darcy has been named as expected, and Hayden Young is back which could possibly affect some roles.

GAME 8: St Kilda vs GWS Giants

Sunday, April 13, 3:20pm AEST (Local Time 2:50pm) Norwood Oval Adelaide 🌦🌡

Notes: Hugh Boxshall remains a possible debut, and cashcow James Leake is back onto extended bench. Steele is named and GWS get Coniglio back. Mx Hall is named on extended bench which is a bit of a concern for selections.

GAME 9: Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn

Sunday, April 13, 7:20pm AEST (Local Time 6:50pm) Adelaide Oval Adelaide 🌦🌡

Notes: Will Day is out for an extended period. Replaced by Worpel who is straight back in. Rookie Moraes is named directly on field which makes it safer for extended bench selections.
