The Thursday Scramble: Round 3

It’s an important week for trading rookies and getting our teams set for the rest of the year! Let’s Scramble

Two weeks in and we are starting to see a few things emerging. We have started to see who we should have in our teams and who we shouldn’t. This is the most important week of the Supercoach and Real Dreamteam seasons as the prices start to change from now. However, it still isn’t too late to make some corrections in AFL Fantasy either.

What are the Priorities?

Your first priority is fixing Rookies then your second priority is to fix more Rookies!! With two weeks worth of information now you need to make sure that you have picked up the rookies that have some great job security and have been scoring well. I know that you have all read the awesome Fry’s Cash CowsSo you should have everything you need to know to make the best decisions.

With AFL Fantasy we have had a couple of price movements already but it is still time to fix up some rookies if you need to. We now have a better picture of who the best rookies will be so bring them in if you don’t have them.

Importantly in Supercoach and Real Dreamteam prices will only start moving after this week. So we now have two weeks worth of data and we have breakevens for our popular rookies, it is time to use all this information and correct any issues you had with your opening team. However, some of the rookies don’t help us. Take a look at Rowe. He had an awesome game in round 1 but struggled in round 2. When this happens you need to look at not just their most recent score but also their role and their job security. So when we look at Rowe he has a good role in the side and should be in the team for a while so dumping him on the back of last week’s game may not be the best strategy.

If you don’t have rookies to worry about then your next priority is to move on your underperforming premiums/mid pricers. There are four that are at the top of that list and they are Paddy Dow, Patrick Cripps, Tom Green and Tim Taranto.  I think the first three are ones that you should move on, particularly Green since he was dropped last week and we have now heard that Cripps is playing injured. Once again though you need to make sure if you trade out someone like Cripps you should be trading into a premium that you are going to keep for the rest of the season, not someone that you need to trade again to get back to a premium.

Nat Fyfe…. What to do?

Fyfe will be missing this week thanks to the concussion he suffered last week. For those of you considering trading him….. well in RDT and SC it is a hard No, unless something comes out that says he could miss multiple weeks, then you may want to reconsider.

However, in AF there is a case where it could actually be beneficial. However… there are a few reasons why I think this is valid.  Firstly, you need to have NOTHING else to fix up. I.e. you have every rookie you need and you have no underperformers that you need to trade. Secondly you need to be prepared to not have Nat for a while. There is every chance that you won’t be able to get him back for a number of weeks as you will have other issues to deal with that will prevent you getting Nat back. So if you are going to trade him make sure you are moving to a player that has the similar scoring ability.

What the Ruck?

As I mentioned last week we saw Max and Brodie bounce back last weekend. In SC they had the huge scores we want but in AF and RDT not so much for Max. But it showed us that these guys aren’t done just yet. It was a valid strategy to keep them and a few people did trade Max out which was also a valid move. If it was to Flynn then that is the only play that seems like it might have some legs. Hunter looks like he could be done potentially after his showing last week and rumours that Marshall could be back. Meek was ok but Darcy did return so at best he will be sharing the duties going forward.

Good Friday Footy!

How good is Footy on Good Friday! BUT!!!  WARNING WARNING… The first game on Friday starts at 4:20pm AEDT. So make sure that you have your team for the North and Doggies game set then.  There are a heap of relevant players in this game and you would hate to have them locked into a position you don’t want. I know a heap of people got caught out last year so don’t be one this year!

Things to Remember

  • Just a reminder….  RDT and SC trades are sticky once the first game starts. So just be ready for that.
  • Rookies are the key to your game. Don’t neglect getting in the top ones as that will mean it takes longer to upgrade your team.
  • Hawks and Geelong play on Monday. So you won’t see teams until Sunday night!  Just make sure your team is structured such that if any rookies get dropped you won’t be compromised.

Easter weekend is here!  This round is spread over 5 days! How good is that, footy for 5 days in a row. Have a fantastic long weekend, stay safe and enjoy watching your Fantasy team rocket towards the top of the leaderboard.
