A new Sunday night show, bonus podcasts, stats and some of the old school!

G’day legends!

We’ve set up our very own Patreon page! We’ve been doing our thing since 2007 and have loved every minute of it.

We want to produce content and interact with the community. By having a Patreon page, we can bring some of the many ideas we have to life and continue to be part of a great community of like-minded legends.

Shout us a pot

On this $5 per month level you’ll have access to:

  • Sunday night live stream – After the last game has finished. We will fire up the stream and take it back to the old school! Fantasy, fun and frothies!
  • Rollin’ 22 – Roy will be updating his best 22 each week for our patrons. This will hit DT Talk once a month, but you’ll get a weekly update with some trade commentary from Roy.
  • Pre-season Playbook – We have created a pdf that has handy info for coaches to print out as they do their last minute cramming this pre-season. It features club best 23s (the starting 22 and the projected sub) for round one, key stats from last season, three players in focus from each club, the Scale of Hardness and a stats page which includes the pre-season numbers.
  • Open League – Join our open league which will see the Top 5 coaches after round 24 walk away with some cash! $500 for first, $400 for second, $300 for third, $200 for fourth and $100 for fifth. You must be a member for three months to be eligible for the Open League prizes.

Shout us a pint

On this $10 per month level you’ll have access to all of the above PLUS:

  • Calvin’s Captains – This year Calvin will be dropping his Captains article on Patreon early. You will be the first to see his handy work on Tuesday evenings. This year an abridged version will feature on DT Talk, so for the full analysis which is bigger and better than before, you will need to be on Patreon.
  • Mid-week Podcast – Every Wednesday night we will be recording and publishing a podcast, exclusive for this tier, which will feature the key information coaches need to know, our trade plans and answer to your questions which you can submit via Patreon.
  • Jaiden Popowski’s Spreadsheet – We have teamed up with our favourite Fantasy stats guru to bring you a spreadsheet to have a heap of handy information in one place. You will be able to download this early in the week. There is also a special pre-season edition available full of data to help you pick your squad.
  • Scale on Hardness – Calvin will be updating his infamous Scale of Hardness weekly, going up on DT Talk monthly. You will be able to catch this every Thursday before the round starts.
  • Knockout – Remember the eliminator? Of course you do! We are bringing this back for the coaches on this tier. It will start at approximately round six (TBA) and if you’re the last coach standing, you will win $500 with the runner-up pocketing $250. You must be a member at this level for three months to be eligible for the Knockout prizes.

There will be more details to come on our content – including a first special LIVE STREAM on Thursday 9 March from 9pm AEDT featuring our team reveals.

Thanks for being part of the ride! This will be a lot of fun.

Cheers,

Calvin, Warnie and Roy

Good on you Warnie! You guys give so much time and content to the community and cop a lot of abuse for your efforts. You thoroughly deserve to get a bit more back.

I agree. It seems INCREDIBLY difficult to serve up content week after week that is trying to predict the future to an audience that (to a small but very vocal decree) loves to criticise you when you get it wrong. We all get it wrong a lot of the time so why be so critical of people who are trying to help you? It annoys me a lot but these guys keep going and, amazingly, stay GENUINELY happy and good natured to keep doing what they do. That’s not easy at all. I sure couldn’t do it.

I am enormously impressed that they don’t let the critics get them down and will be happy to support them in any way I can, like this.

I hate that I’m paying more to play a game I’m mediocre at, but hey, the boys are probably my favorite podcast to listen to so why not add more content for my weekly commute.

You boys deserve a few $$ for all the effort you put in. Now buying you a pint a month and looking forward to getting knocked out of the elimination league in round 1! lol

I’m happy to say that Charlie was one of the first players I picked in a UF draft keeper league back in 2019, lets hope he makes the most of his opportunity if he finally gets some games.

3 to 5 games and a price rise of $100k and I will happily off load him for an incoming rook! Callous, but that is life!

It’s great that you guys are starting a Patreon and I hope it works out but don’t you guys get paid by afl fantasy to make content? Or is that unpaid? I’m hoping this website doesn’t go the way of many other websites and end up behind a pay wall.

While I understand you guys need some recompense for your great services to the world of Fantasy and footy in general , I am just not a fan of Patreon , in fact , I loathe it . If I joined all the Patreons my ‘ friends ‘ are promoting for their respective projects , I would rapidly become broke . How is one person’s/ groups Patreon more deserving than anothers ? Well , there are just too many of them . I assumed you guys would be getting sponsorship $s , particularly from the betting agencies . You should be putting the bite on them harder .

I think we understand most things about Patreon and why people ‘ use ‘ it . Already , with Calvin’s Capts , we are getting a reduced quality effort on DT Talk . Sure , you said it would be , but 5 top selections with no other data is quite frankly a bit sh*t . It is we loyal followers who have given you the opportunity to try and make more $s . Nobody is saying you should try to and you deserve it , but what irks me is that , using C’sCs as an example , we loyal followers are now getting way less . It’s like a subtle form of bribery . If you want more ( or as much as we used to get ) show us the colour of your money . Disappointing boys , Disappointing !

As someone who probably won’t get a subscription I can’t understand why people are complaining about this. There is already so much free and excellent content on this site

I support the DTT boys desire to make money from their efforts. Fair enough. They were fortunate enough to be recognised and rewarded by the AFL for the community they’ve played a part in building. Fair enough. While they were the figureheads, they weren’t/aren’t the sole contributors. It is arguable that the content provided by others, which they have benefited from, is a significant or overwhelming part of the AFL Fantasy community.

My question is, are the people who contribute to the site also going to rewarded? Do the articles writers receive compensation? Do the posters who significantly contribute to the involvement and discussion of articles and content, also receive a cut?

There has been a clear drop off in content, and quality of content since I have returned in the last 12 months. I do not see the amount, or quality of content improving from here on in, as a result of compensation. The articles provided by volunteers has clearly reduced. I think the quality feedback provided by community members will also reduce.

The AFL Fantasy community has significantly died off over the years, and I believe the drop off will continue further, given the apparent desire for monetisation. I don’t think DTT currently has the quality of content, other than what is provided by community contributors, or official AFL content, to justify also being paywalled.

Be careful what you wish for lads. This site was pumping 10 years ago, with content and participation. As was AFL Fantasy. It’s not so much the case now. Isolating content according to P2P. may just be ineveitably be cutting your nose off to spite your face.

If content here is being further monetised, why should significant contributors to the content continue to do so for free?

Wouldn’t you rather set a $10 note on fire every month instead of getting advice from guys whose career best finish was in 2009?

There is a fair bit of anger being expressed lately. The way I see it is if you don’t want to pay $5/10 each month, then don’t. I personally have no intentions of signing up. I have been playing this game for longer than I care to remember, I have never won a car, but I have won lots of cash/prizes/leagues over the years and I have never let the traders influence any of my decisions.

To the knockers

Lots off free “advice” on offer from a decent number of websites, podcasts, twitter and even instagram(!)
Accept what they are offering is access to data you may not have. You are then required to make your own choices.
You are also free to research all data yourself

I do fantasy afl for fun and enjoyment. I also like entertainment. Here the Traders excel. I am happy to join their patreon for that reason alone.

Warnie great reply above.

Yeah fully agree – I love the entertainment value so I’m more than happy to pay the small $ contribution to help fund it – like many other things I might do in life eg audiobook, streaming, gaming or whatever.

If others don’t see the value in it – that’s all good too – we all value different things. So not sure there’s really a debate here tbh – just make a choice & play on either way 👍🏼

This whole Patreon debate is causing as much anger and resentment as the news that Port Adelaide will be allowed to wear the black and white striped heritage guernsey against the Vrows in one match!

I will definitely be cheering on the Crows during these matches. Black and white stripes are for Collingwood alone and anathema on anyone else.

When I lived in England there were 3 teams in the EPL that were all wearing black and white. They just had a different kit when they played each other. Seemed like a simple solution.

Phteven, I am used to forgiving the lack of capitalisation nowadays, because the younger generations have been too used to texting in all lower case. I cannot claim to be overly bright myself, as I am a Collingwood supporter, but PAFC has shown that Collingwood are not alone in having poorly edumacated fans.

Daics, I am a former English teacher (not a teacher from England) and I see the minutest spelling and grammatical errors everywhere. My favourite is signwriters putting apostrophes everywhere as they have no idea where to put them! My edumacation standards are too high for the modern world, even if I have been a Port Adelaide supporter since the mid sixties!

Phteven, that’s cool. I used to manage an ESL program in Vietnam after getting my CELTA. I assessed English more often than I actually taught it. I was a Maths and Business teacher in a previous career. I notice errors more than ever now. So, in a way, I wish I had not done my CELTA.

Hi Warnie,

I have not been a patreon member with you guys yet. I’m wondering if you have any plans during the offseason. When would be a good time to join? I’m not trying to be silly but since I have no chance of improving my score this season I don;t see the value in it currently. But I would love to be a member next year. If you can convince me otherwise I’d be happy to join sooner. The sort of content I’m looking for is to get a leg up on the competition next year, the same as a lot of people are. Thank you in advance if you decide to answer. Cheers
