Wet Weather + Fantasy Scoring

The weather look wet for the Gather Round… so how will this effect Fantasy footy?

Wet weather football… what does it all mean and what can we expect this weekend? I’m hearing that it will be pissing down in South Australia for the Gather Round so I thought I’d put together a little article that puts it all on the table… with some Twitter help for the legend that is Jaiden Popowski along the way.

ADELAIDE OVAL

Games being played…

Adelaide v Carlton (Thursday)

Sydney v Richmond (Friday)

Essendon v Melbourne (Saturday)

Port Adelaide v Bulldogs (Saturday)

Geelong v West Coast (Sunday)

Collingwood v St Kilda (Sunday)

NORWOOD OVAL

Games being played…

Fremantle v Gold Coast (Friday)

GWS Giants v Hawthorn (Sunday)

ADELAIDE HILLS

Games being played…

Brisbane v Kangaroos (Saturday)

Thanks to our mate Jaiden – who is the elite stat master… he recently posted on Twitter the following data about marks and tackles in different weather conditions. If you don’t follow the great man… now is the time. This stuff is second to none.

Marks

Averages per game since 2012:

189 – Under the roof
183 – Sunny day

180 – Overcast

180 – Mostly clear

176 – Clear night

173 – Rain

165 – Windy

165 – Thunderstorms

158 – Windy & Rain

No surprise here is there…. a wet ball, means the bloody thing is harder to mark. Especially compared to a dry sunny day or even under the roof itself where everything is dry and dandy. What can we expect this weekend… you guessed it, a lower number of marks which might effect the likes of Sicily, Ryan, Stewart and even Jezza Cameron.

Tackles

Averages per game since 2012:

160 – Windy & Rain
137 – Thunderstorms

134 – Windy

132 – Clear night

131 – Under the roof
130 – Overcast

129 – Rain

123 – Mostly clear

118 – Sunny day

Nothing shocking here either…. if it’s wet and slippery, then it harder to possess the ball and to hold on to the bloody thing, especially if you are being tackled. Expect the tackle count to be high this weekend with some players using this to boost their scores. Hopefully we see a spike in Dunkley’s numbers and Laird’s…. oh wait a minute, Laird plays Thursday which is the only decent day of weather we will see in Adelaide over this round. What a shock! Be better Lairdy!

Those with Oliver as captain… expect another high count from him, along with the likes of Bontempelli (12 last week).
