Fry’s Cash Cows – Rd. 22 + Award Nominees

As the fantasy season winds down, Fry puts forth some rookie award nominees!

21 down, 2 to go!

We’ve reached preliminary final weekend, which means there are only 18 games left in the AFL Fantasy season! While coaches will be focusing on trading in POD’s and examining their finals matchups, I’m getting the ball rolling for award season by looking at some of the best cash cow contributors from season 2022 so far.

Rookie/cash cows picks are players who start the season at $300,000 or lower

Power Ranking Cash Cows – Round 21

After 20 weeks of action, these are the top-10 cash cow performers!

Cash Cow King – Round 21

For a change, Nick Daicos (108) put together another strong performance in the first match of the round, however, the Rising Star favourite wasn’t the top rookie scorer of the weekend. Elijah Hollands (118) put together the best game of his young career to lead the pack, with Josh Ward (84) and Brynn Teakle (86) not too far behind him. Gold Coast’s touted youngster gets my tick of approval this week.

Round 22 Rookie Rankings

With the exception of Nick Daicos, coaches would’ve made it a priority to remove all the rookies from their field, however, forced trades may have complicated those plans. Fingers crossed you are reading this without a cash cow still in your starting 22, but if you do have to field a young gun, here are the ones I have the most trust in to close the season.

  3. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (Saints)*

Round 22 Downgrade Targets

Cash is key at this point of the season and while there’s nothing wrong with throwing a bench position away for a $190K player, there are still some rookies who offer plenty of value over the final fortnight.

  1. Brynn Teakle ($235K, RUC/FWD, Power)
  2. Kallan Dawson ($248K, DEF, Kangaroos)
  3. Wade Derksen ($190K, DEF/FWD, Giants)*
  4. Jai Serong ($198K, MID/FWD, Hawks)
  5. James Tsitas ($190K, MID, Suns)*

* if named

Award Nominees

Successful coaches this season wouldn’t have been able to reach great heights without the assistance of reliable cash cows. Below you can have your say on which players should be in the mix for the positional MVP award after their efforts in 2022, and next week I will be back with the final voting ballot for all the rookie/cash cow awards including Game of the Year, the Cash Cow King and more!

Make 2-4 selections (depending on position) for the finalists of each award race.
Voting closes at the conclusion of Round 22
