Wow – what a massive week for captains and I’m pretty sure (after receiving little feedback) that most people would have nailed one of the big boys. Laird was my No. 1 pick for his career-best Fantasy score of 163 and even Merrett who popped into my top-5 for the first time this year didn’t disappoint with his season-high 131.
COME HAVE A BEER!
It’s not too late – we are coming your way (or we might even be there). Come and have a beer and be entertained as we (Roy and I) give Warnie shit for 90mins at one of our shows. It promises to be great fun and as always, a few beers afterwards. So if you are free on the dates below, why not come and chat a bit of footy with us.
LAIRD v MILLS
This is the biggest match-up of the round and splitting these two was very tough. This will be the most commonly asked question this week… You can see the way I have done it (Mills over Laird) and for more explanation around this, make sure you watch the video to hear a more in depth break-down.
CALVIN’S PLAN
So… it will look like this. I will be going the VC on my first option MILLS and rolling it into my #3 option which is Zach Merrett. Very similar to what I planned on doing last week, but Laird ticked the box and I didn’t need to. As I said, the Laird v Mills split is an interesting one but as I said, watch the video to hear my logic… somewhat logical explanation.
Player | Opponent Venue Time | Key Stats | Cal’s Comments |
---|---|---|---|
1. Callum Mills | @ SCG SAT 1:45pm | Adelaide have given up 4x130+ in last two weeks. | Mills' record v Adelaide isn't great but his form is coming off 132 and 148. Crows give up plenty and he has averaged 127 in his last four at home. VC in play! |
2. Rory Laird | @ SCG SAT 1:45pm | Averaging 137 after his bye... snout him! | Sydney in Sydney are tough. Last week, Freo only had 1x100+ against them with Brayshaw (78) struggling. His record v the Swans isn't great but his form alone is too good. |
3. Zach Merrett | @ MCG SUN 3:20pm | #3 on form with 131, 127 and 128 his most recent | Collingwood are the #1 easiest over the last few weeks giving up big scores like.... Laird 163, Berry 111, LDU 145, Anderson 142, Taylor 100, Touk 132, Anderson 116, Cogs 129, Cumming 118 and Kelly 116. |
4. Andrew Brayshaw | @ Marvel FRI 7:50pm | 156 on the Tigers last year, his second best ever. | Ignore his season-low 78 last week and focus on the 141 and 121 prior. He had 123 at Marvel this year already and if Simpkin (119) and LDU (108) can score well on these guys, Brayshaw can do better. |
5. Touk Miller | @ GABBA SAT 7:10pm | 111 this year on Lions and 127 last year. | Touk has quietly been going about his business averaging 118 in bis last four. The Lions rank as #3 easiest over the last five weeks and Touk should be great like he has been in the past. |
6. Jack Sinclair | @ Optus SUN 4:40pm | #2 on form averaging 132 in last three. | You can't deny his form and you can't deny the match-up. The Eagles are getting better but last week the Hawks didn't struggle. Expect another big score with double figure marks. |
7. Jack Macrae | @ Marvel SAT 7:25pm | Averages 127 on Melbourne in his last seven | Macrae loves playing the Demons with scores of 120, 103, 138, 147 and 130 coming in his last five. He has been out of form so hopefully he's not sooking and cashing in like he should. |
8. Hugh McCluggage | @ GABBA SAT 7:10pm | Averaging 124 after his bye and had 142 last week | McCluggage's form has been elite and here he meets a team he should continue his hot run. Essendon score well against the Suns last week with MIDs like Merrett (131) and McGrath (106) having their best games this year. |
9. Marcus Bontempelli | @ Marvel SAT 7:25pm | 140 last week... he could dominate this one | Loves playing the Demons who give up the most uncontested marks all over the ground. He has done well in the past against them with scores of 100, 108, 123 and 120. |
10. Luke D-Uniacke | @ Blundstone SAT 1:45pm | #4 on form with previous scores of 108, 145 and 127. | Hawks are still #1 easiest this year and even #2 easiest over the last five weeks. LDU has been in hot form and should keep it rolling here. |

Check out our latest podcast when we spoke to the great man himself. An absolute cracking bloke who loves the fact he scores big points for the Fantasy community.
