Trent’s Take: Rookie Roulette

2020 winner Trent Sutcliffe gives some thoughts on the rookies.

This week I’m delving into a problem we are all having and that is which rookies do I put on my bench versus which rookies do I put on my field. We all know how to sell a rookie; you get rid of them before their breakeven is higher than they’re scoring. I thought I would look at the first 4 weeks of data and see if there is any help the data gives us so we don’t end up with a spud lurking at D6 when the player at D7 might score better.

I looked at the first 4 weeks of rookie scores and split them into the following categories,

  1. Rookies Playing Interstate.
  2. Rookies in wins.
  3. Rookies in defeats
  4. Rookies at home
  5. Rookies away

Rookies Playing Interstate

There were 49 rookies who played interstate in the first 4 weeks of the season. The average score of the rookie playing interstate was 50.77. In all these sections there will be outliers, but they tend to be the same group of players like the Swans, Flynn and the occasional blip like Cox and Robertson.  However, the scores are a little lower than some of the other categories, especially forward rookies interstate who are not Chad Warner. So, the upshot is beware the interstate rookie on ground who doesn’t play midfield or ruck (I grouped players by playing position rather than fantasy position).

Rookies in wins v defeats

It should strike us all as obvious that winners score more, and that is true for rookies in wins. 59 rookies at an average of 57, which is 7 points higher than the previous category and is 11 points higher than teams who loose. Rookies in defeats are 56 rookies at an average of 46.71 and this includes scores by Flynn, Cox and Powell. The Swans victories boost the averages considerably, but conversely the Bulldogs rookies have generally scored poorly. Therefore, opt for forward and defensive rookies in teams that win, unless they are playing out of position according to fantasy (i.e. Burgess at the Suns).

Rookies at home v away

60 rookies at home averaging 55 with 52 rookies away averaging 51. The difference in numbers might be explained a little by coaches dropping underperforming rookies (Kozzie) for an away game whilst giving a rookie a game at home (although Martyn played for a 26 at Port). Therefore, if you had a chance to cull a rookie, it is better to do it after a home game and before an away game, especially an interstate trip. This is true as we start to consider culling rookies in rounds 5-9 who are reaching their breakeven.

The Hawthorn rookies might be good for a week more whilst the end might be nigh for Meek and H. Jones. I will look seriously at how many rookies on ground from Collingwood, Fremantle, Essendon, and even Port Adelaide I field on ground. So, even if L. Jones is picked, is it worth picking him and Bergman (I know it is against Carlton, so if you think Port win then you might go for both, but there is a danger).

Other Round 5 Issues

McCreery at Optus would not be a buy this week nor if you have him, to start him on your field, whilst if the Bulldog rookies retain their place at least they are at home, although I’d be going Robertson over Scott on ground.  The Essendon rookies didn’t score that well at Sydney, apart from Cox, but the unicorn played on the wing and everywhere else on the eastern side of the ground where the ball almost lived for the entire game. Wingers and players on the other side like Campbell and Blakey plus Langford, Smith and Guelfi could have caught pneumonia. So, I’ll be backing against Waterman and Jones., whilst Robertson if named, at home, might be a shot.  Adelaide rookies are back home and hopefully Rowe might be a better F6 than Bergman even if he plays as he travels to play Carlton at the MCG.

Rucks at the SCG

Something I have noticed is the SCG is a graveyard for ruck scores. Hickey 67 to Wright’s 49 and Hickey 57 with two goals to O’Brien 48 and on both occasions, half their scores were nearly hit outs. Unless the Ruck is hitting the scoreboard they seem to be bypassed in general play. Flynn plays at the SCG this week.  Maybe his score will be higher if Mumford plays, and he gets to drift forward rather than try and find the ball around the ground.

Trading Round 5

My current plans after a double downgrade last week are to go Daniel to Jones and any rookie not named to Tom Mitchell. Scored 1944 last week and ranked 1104. My other option if all rookies named is a double upgrade, which you could do if you have a bit of cash from last week. For example, Phillips via DPP to Treloar and Daniel via DPP to Mitchell. I am not convinced Daniel will end up to D1-6 defender and I am reasonably confident Phillips won’t be a top F1-6 Forward. Good luck everyone! In coming weeks, remember to look at your bye strategy, if you are like me you are starting to accrue a heap of players who have the Round 12 bye.

Trent, would love your thoughts on ROB as a trade target this week? Dropped 150k. Looked to have finally figured out the new rules on the weekend, albeit against a shit opponent. We know at his best he’s capable of matching the big 2 as shown late last year. BE 86 this week

    • Aluniesheis

      April 13, 2021 at 8:51 pm

He is a good option this week. I have ROB as one of my options depending on rookie selections.

    April 13, 2021 at 7:14 pm

Thanks for that informative write up Trent 🤙🏼 Quick question, should I be getting in mid pricers scoring well in for other mid pricers? Or downgrading rooks and upgrading those mid price flops to premiums on the rise?

    • Shreddder

      April 13, 2021 at 7:22 pm

FYI I have serong, Clark, Dow, De Goey, Kosinski and Brockman.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 13, 2021 at 8:55 pm

I am generally not a mid price fan mid season unless you have a trade strategy worked out. I would generally rather double downgrade one week and upgrade to premiums later. This is unless your mid price players price increase is pretty guaranteed for 2 to 4 weeks.

        Thanks mate 🤙🏽

    April 13, 2021 at 7:19 pm

Great info! I’m looking at Daniel to Jones too. Then my options for Dow are:
    Treloar (have Macrae and Dunks)

    • Aluniesheis

      April 13, 2021 at 8:57 pm

All good options. Mitchell is the most likely to average 120.

  4. I am a sinner

    April 13, 2021 at 8:07 pm

I have Adams and Daniel. I am thinking of holding Daniel and upgrading Adams to Steele. Then I still have a lot of money left over and the best use of the would be to upgrade LDU to a premium mid. If I already have macrea, Steele and merret who is the best choice. Alternatively I could fix Daniel, if I don’t then I have kositsike as bench backup. Thanks for the article it’s very helpful.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 13, 2021 at 9:03 pm

With your options I’d be trying to get two premiums if it still leaves no more than 1 non playing rookie on your bench. Look for premiums who have maxed out. Steele and Merrett are good options every week and therefore I’d wait until after I had a couple of fallen premiums who will be potential top players in my side.

      • Darren

        April 14, 2021 at 5:42 pm

Hi mate do you rate Parker from the Swans as a premo?

  5. Damo

    April 13, 2021 at 8:14 pm

Best FWD/MID option under $789k? Is it Dangerfield, Parker, Treloar, Titch, T Kelly, B Crouch or someone else?

    • Aluniesheis

      April 13, 2021 at 9:05 pm

All good and go with your researched gut. I started with Dangerfield and he will be unique. However I think Mitchell is the highest potential scorer of those.

    April 13, 2021 at 8:23 pm

Great info cheers Trent. Bit stuck on my trades this week was hoping for a hand

My team is ($33k in bank):

DEF- Laird, Mills, Short, Cumming, Markov, J.Clark (Highmore, Kozzie)

MID- Merrett, Taranto, Walsh, Sholl, Drew, Gulden, Jordan, Powell (Brockman, Dow)

    RUC- Gawn and Grundy (Flynn)

FWD- Dunkley, Phillips, Hind, Warner, Campbell, Roberston (Rowe, Bergman)

    Utility- Meek

Was thinking either Markov to a playing rookie under $200k (for the bench) and DPP Rowe onto the field – and then Drew to Treloar

Or double downgrade Clark to say Chapman and then Dow to another playing rookie to have upgrade cash next week.

  7. Aluniesheis

    April 13, 2021 at 9:11 pm

You are probably higher ranked than I am at the moment. You have a good side. Drew, Markov, Dow and Rowe are the guys.

You might need a 2 week strategy because a rookie might need to go who is sacked. But I like the Treloar option. But getting rid if Dow might become a priority.

    April 13, 2021 at 9:13 pm

Hi Trent ! Great article as always (i also love how you mix up the topic each week)

In a bit of a dilemma with what to do with Sloane this week, and I was wondering if you could offer your advice

I can either go Sloane down to Cox and Highmore to Chapman (D7). This will net me 240k for next week which will (through midpricers and maxed out rookies) allow me to go 1 up and 1 down for the next 4-5 weeks getting the likes of undervalued premos Treloar, Crouch, Neale, a bottomed out Daniel etc. and rookies with solid job security like Jones and Maccrae. The attraction of this is it’ll also give me 8 players on the bench this week assuming Flynn, Kosi and Bergman are back (all reasonably likely) and the likes of Brockman and Scott hold their spots (shaky at best).

Alternatively, I can move Sloane to Crouch now and trade Fantasia down to Chapman/L.Jones as my D6, giving me the possibility to potentially go Clark to Treloar the following week. The issue with this is that it leaves me with Highmore who I think is pretty unlikely to come back in. It will also mean that I’ll need to double downgrade at some point in the next few weeks to keep funding the upgrade/downgrade cycle.

I guess the question is do I double downgrade now to clear a dud rookie and maximise upgrading potential over the next 5 weeks, or do I get one of Crouch/Treloar (or even Mitchell) in this week at the expense of a solid cash generator/possible on field rookie in Cox and Chapman

    Cheers legend !

  9. Petracca

    April 13, 2021 at 9:26 pm

Hey Trent, I’m a bit stuck with what to do with Daniel this week. Defence is currently Laird, Ridley, Stewart, Daniel, Markov, Chapman (Highmore, Kosi) so I need to either trade him or bring in Jones for Highmore / Kosi as cover for the week.

I have Hind up forward so is it better to trade Daniel for Jones and use the cash to get in Danger / ROB / a mid around that price, and then next week push Hind to the backline which would leave one of Chapman / Jones as D6?
Or would you trade Highmore / Kos for Jones and then say A.Scott/Brockman for Bergman or Meek for Treacy?

    • Aluniesheis

      April 13, 2021 at 9:35 pm

Selections will impact your decision. Hind moving to Def only works if Bergman or F7 plays and will score more than D6.

Daniel and Highmore to go, can you get a midfielder or utility to defence to give you a midfield option for Daniel. I wouldn’t be trading in Meek or even Treacy.

I think generally if you can’t use the Daniel cash for a quality upgrade after punting Highmore than you either go cash generator or double downgrade.

      • Petracca

        April 13, 2021 at 10:12 pm

Thanks. How is highmore -> L.Jones and Daniel -> Cox? Or would you rather someone like Jiath over Cox who has a higher BE but is a better scorer?

No DPP for Def so can’t upgrade Daniel to anyone in other lines.

Otherwise I keep Daniel and do:
Highmore -> L.Jones (on field for this week) and non-playing rook to playing one (e.g. A.Scott -> Bergman)

    • GDT

      April 13, 2021 at 10:11 pm

Thanks for the article. In RDT Mitchell is only $730,000 odd. Would you trade Jordan if it got you Mitchell? Probably a bit early on Jordan, but like seeing the pig there.

  10. Aluniesheis

    April 13, 2021 at 9:27 pm

Yep, this is the game. Money generation is super important as it will limit your post bye full premium desires if not tackled now.

Soon it will be not just are my rookies playing but will they generate cash. I’d be punting Highmore if he is not playing.

Then you see if you can get a player you are happy with regarding Sloane. Otherwise I think you answered it, you double downgrade.

  11. Kjaks

    April 14, 2021 at 7:29 am

Gday Trent. Do you reckon it’s a possibility that James Jordon gets rested this week or is it reasonable to trade him to b crouch as an underpriced premo? That would mean I need to lock that trade in before I know if Jordon is named or not. His BE is now 32 so it’s not exactly higher than his average but he is the only player I can get to crouch.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 8:00 am

I have Jordon also. I am hoping it was a blip. When May got injured they shuffled their team which meant Jordon played on the off-side (that is the opposing wing to Ed Langdon) and Geelong rarely go down that side of the ground. He also had limited time on ground. It is a worry, and yes he is a potential risk. Jordon is a sell at some point in the next few weeks. In the end are you happy to go Jordon to Crouch. This is a combo trade for you know Crouch will probably be a sell after the byes also, but he will make cash. It depends on your other rookies, for me, I have rookies who are less likely to play than Jordon.

    April 14, 2021 at 9:06 am

What do you think of Aaron Hall and Callan Ward?

Trying to get Scott off my ground and these are the two names that stand out the most for me in the price bracket I can afford.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:41 pm

I couldn’t do it, but they both have short term upside.Hall I think more likely.

    April 14, 2021 at 9:10 am

    Hi Trent. Please help

    1. Daniel and Jordon to CJ and Sholl
    2. Daniel and Young to ROB and Jones
    3. Keep Daniel. Young and Rowe to CJ and Finley Macrae

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:43 pm

I’d favour 2. Jordan will play again. Rowe at home is at least a chance to score.

  14. Geoff

    April 14, 2021 at 9:20 am

Awesome write up, appreciate it. My trade options all depend on whether Flynn is named or not but to you which one seems best?

    1. Daniel and Jordan to L. Jones and T. Mitchell
    2. Daniel and Flynn to Grundy and 170k
    3. Daniel and Rowe to Ash and Cox

    • Geoff

      April 14, 2021 at 9:21 am

Open to other suggestions aswell. Thanks

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:47 pm

1- but yes another week of no Flynn will hurt coaches. What would you do if Jordon plays? He still has cash to make.

  15. Burger

    April 14, 2021 at 10:10 am

Appreciate your time & effort with these informative articles Trent. With a view to your comment above, who would you field this week out of Jordon (29 last week at MCG & playing there again vs Hawks) or Powell (91 last week at Marvel but playing at GMHBA this week vs Cats)

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:51 pm

Tough- I am fielding Powell as he plays through the middle and a bit up forward. Jordon is the first mid out of the rotation, although I think if he plays, he’ll be fine, assuming they bring in a defender for May and Hunt goes through the wing rather than off half back, which forced Jordon to the off side wing or on the bench. If he is sacked, then that will make your choice (and mine) easier.

  16. Mitchell

    April 14, 2021 at 10:30 am

I’ve got the coin to turn De Goey & Clark into Dunkley & Taranto (via DPP), but this will mean I miss some of the rookies this week – Jones, Bergman (if named), F Macrae, which all seem like great options. My question is, do you take the rookies while they’re available?

    • ShredderPigs

      April 14, 2021 at 10:56 am

IMO you should get Taranto in this week as his price will go up 25-30k. Dunkley you could get next week for a very similar price. That leaves you to decide the best rookie to get and JS says Cox or Jones… good luck 🤙🏽

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:54 pm

For every Jones there is a Martyn. I don’t mind waiting a week, say on Macrae, but Jones is this week or never I suspect. Clark is a hold in my side at the moment, surely Geelong fix up there out of balance side at some point and put Clark to half back and a wing not half forward (or yes, out of the side). De Goey is not top 6, so you could go Jones and Dunkley and save cash for a rookie downgrade to maybe Macrae next week and then an upgrade.

  17. Nathan Grant

    April 14, 2021 at 11:17 am

Geoff no.1 for me looks best. If a rookie for $170k is named and Flynn is still resting then I’ll say 2. ROB a good ruck idea for less and F.Macrae. Another idea for ya.

  18. Alex

    April 14, 2021 at 12:21 pm

G’day Trent, thanks as always. Ranked about 2k with the following, have avoided some, but not all carnage:

Def: Laird, Stewart, Doc, Fantasia, Clark, Chapman (Kozi, Butts)

Mid: Zerrett, Taranto, Walsh, Serong, Gulden, Powell, Campbell, Jordon (Phillips, Lazarro)

    Ruck: Grundy, Flynn (Meek)

Fwd; Dunk, Butters*, Tex, Stephenson, Phillips, Warner (Rowe, Bergman)

    Ut: Highmore

Thinking if Flynn doesn’t play, or is co-rucking, Butters to ROB, Highmore to L Jones on field, Laird to mids. Or if Clark dropped, him to L Jones with a bit of cash to play with. I think Bergman and Kozi play this week, but concerned about Clark JS and cash generation – after 5 weeks, not much by way of upgrade. If Flynn named solo, Butters to Treloar, either Highmore -> Jones or Treacy for cash. What do you reckon?

Following week then might feature Stephenson->Trelor, Crouch, ROB or Clark up unless he pulls out a blinder v the Roos as I feel he is a fit side away from dropping, to whom I am not yet sure (Williams?)

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:56 pm

Good options, Butters to ROB sounds good and whilst I am keeping Clark, he is a sell, if it improves your side and that is the way then do it. I wouldn’t seel Clark if I had more than 2 non-playing (maybe even 1) players on bench as it will hurt in the lead up to byes.

  19. Kent

    April 14, 2021 at 12:31 pm

Def: Short, Williams, Cumming, Clark, Kosi, Burgess (Highmore, Gould)

Mid: Merrett, Taranto, B Crouch, Laird, Macrae, Gulden, Powell, Campbell (Downie, Bruhn)

    Ruck: Grundy, Flynn (Hunter)

Fwd; Dunkley, Ziebell, Fantasia, Stephenson, Rowe, Warner (Brockman, H Jones)

    Ut: Phillips

This is my team with my trades done for the week (to remove Dow – finally – and Adams) and 43k in the bank. I clearly have issues with poor performing rookies. Would love to get in CJ and Sholl to strengthen the defense – and Grundy or ROB. Need some work over the next few weeks or forever haha.

    Thanks for your awesome article.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 1:59 pm

Assuming Williams plays, this could be a good week to really double downgrade, which is what I did last wee. Adams to a rookie and or maybe a mid pricer but leaving a cash amount to upgrade to an underperforming premium next week and punting one of Gould, Highmore, Downie, Bruhn are anchors to your scoring unless Dow is sacked.

      • Kent

        April 14, 2021 at 3:28 pm

        Thanks mate!

  20. CJ

    April 14, 2021 at 12:49 pm

Thanks for all your advice Trent!!

What are you thoughts on fixing up a few bench rooks in defence this week or upgrading a mid pricer like Flynn or Stephenson instead?

If you think upgrade, should I bring in ROB or Treloar? Trying to capitalise on underpriced premos but it could potentially wait until next week. Just concerned about Flynn not being named again.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 2:01 pm

Flynn being named will be the decision. If he is named then you play him on ground and eradicate non players to rookies and build a war chest for uner performing premiums next week. Stephenson could go next week to Dangerfield or Dunkley and next week we’ll have underperforming premiums through DPP. So Stephenson to Taranto for example.

      • CJ

        April 14, 2021 at 2:14 pm

Thanks Trent! Great advice as always. Appreciate you taking the time. I’ll let Flynn be the decider. Good luck this week!!

  21. Scott

    April 14, 2021 at 12:55 pm

My Rnd 6 team with trades made – Coniglio to Jones and Daniel to Cox. Leaves 714K in the bank for trading of either defence or mid rookies next week.

DEF: Laird, Sholl, Markov, Clark, Cox, Jones (Kosi, Highmore)
MID: Macrae, Gaff, Taranto, Robertson, Gulden, Powell, Jordan, Campbell (Sharp, Scott)
    RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Flynn)
FWD: Dusty, Phillips, Stephenson, Warner, Rowe, Fantasia (Brockman, Fullarton)
    UTL: Young

    Thoughts appreciated.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 2:04 pm

Yep valid options, great cash to upgrade next week. A concern is Sharp and potentially Fullarton with Highmore and maybe one of Brockman and Scott. That is 4 who probably won’t be playing in a few weeks. But you could go one up and one down for 2 weeks. For examle Mitchell and Macrae next week and Neale and a spud the week afte or move Clark to mids and go Lloyd.

      • Scott

        April 14, 2021 at 3:14 pm

I am thinking of double upgrade next week to Mitchell and another premium mid (not sure who yet), moving Rowe and Campbell to bench. Week after double downgrade to replace other rookies.

All the best for this week Trent.

  22. MutMuncher

    April 14, 2021 at 2:47 pm

    1. Clark and Sharp –> CJ and fin macrae
    2. clark and jordon –> jones and crouch

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 3:11 pm

Like 2 even though Sharp is not a long term proposition. What about Jones and Macrae and use the cash next week to go Mitchell, Treloar, Neale, Lloyd etc. Jordon playing or not will dtermine the trade.

  23. bigtorps

    April 14, 2021 at 2:51 pm

Hey Trent, great article again this week. Could Noah Anderson be an option for this week? Seems underpriced and is getting plenty of the ball in his role.

Or would it be better to double downgrade midpricers like fanta and clark this week/ fix up a nonplaying rookie or two?

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 3:09 pm

Anderson in away games is always the concern. High scores at Metricon, but not a lot of massive scores away from Metricon. Next three games have 2 away and 1 at home versus the Swans. With a breakeven of 58 this is the week, but he looks like a sell in 4-5 weeks to a real premium. Hope I am wrong, but I wouldn’t go there unless he had 2 games at home in a 3 week period.

I’f be fixing up non-playing rookies, especially if you have more than 1 or 2. Jones is an option, hopefully Macrae plays a couple of games.

  24. subdub

    April 14, 2021 at 4:52 pm

Is Chapman worth the extra money over Jones? Should score more and have better job security, currently ranked in top 1000 so don’t need to take big risks.

    • subdub

      April 14, 2021 at 4:53 pm

Will be my D6 and not just a bench spot.

      • Aluniesheis

        April 14, 2021 at 5:16 pm

I like Chapman, but he is a bit more cash. I think Chapman and Jones will average similar points. If you are in the top 1000 you know what you are doing. There is probably only 400 points covering the top 2000 so I wouldn’t be worried about not taking risks. Chapman at 316 might hover around 400-420 K.

Jones at 261 might average similar, but he will get somewhere near Chapman’s score. You have missed 72 K of Chapman. For me, now Jones is the better option. You only need him until byes.

I want to trade 1 of these out. Who you think?

  26. Ben

    April 14, 2021 at 6:07 pm

    Thanks for the article.

I went the double downgrade last week,

This week I can go J.Clark and Serong to Treloar and Ciumming with 200K or so left.

I’m unsure if I should make that trade, spend the extra 200K to get Ridley but have $0 left,
OR Take one premo and offload a rookie like Highmore, Kosi or Meek for another rookie like Jones or Tracey

    Any help is much appreciated.

    • Aluniesheis

      April 14, 2021 at 6:29 pm

Serong to Treloar and Highmore to Jones or Cumming if you want to spend cash. A player not playing needs to go. Clark might be dropped, but at least you know Highmore is not playing.

  27. Ben.

Loving these articles Trent, week to week insight and forward thinking is great mate. I always seem to stagnate a bit this time of year, stuck between fixating on having every decent rook but not having enough maxed cash cows to get rid of (and not getting in a proper rhythm of upgrade-downgrade in the process, typically find myself a couple of weeks behind the top coaches in terms of premo numbers). Any nudge you could give me on my team would be greatly appreciated!

DEF: Laird, Mills, Stewart, Markov, Clark, Chapman (Kosi, Highmore)
MID: Macrae, Merrett, Mitchell, Taranto, Walsh, Gulden, Powell, Jordan, (Brockman, Sharp)
    RUCK: Grundy, Flynn (Meek)
FWD: Phillips, De Goey, Stephenson, Warner, Campbell, Robertson (Bergman, H.Jones)
    UTL: Rowe

    Thanks legend!

Side is okay. Good chance to get rid of rookies in preparation to upgrade to premiums. H. Jones, Highmore and Sharp unless Flynn not named. The only other option is to also downgrade an almost maxed out rookie like a Jordon or Rowe.

Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback. Would you still switch those rooks to the likes of a Lachie Jones and Finn Macrae this week even if it means not really making any coin? Would only pocket about $6k overall for Highmore > L.Jones and H.Jones > Macrae. Current bank $145k.

Yes, because with Highmore he is not making any coin soon and this will be a problem when we want to upgrade. Cash generation is key, ie. you want in 5 weeks to sell Jones for around 370 K. Highmore looks stuck where he is. It is not death, I carried Cavarra for a long time last year and most of us get stuck each week with a non player. But you don’t want more than 1. H. Jones is coming to an end. It would be better to find a 170 K somewhere, but they generally come with problems, i.e. Martyn from the Tigers.

Hey Trent, which midpricers would you move on first of the below?

Clark, Fantasia, Serong & Drew (I’m thinking Drew)

My bench is ok, but have Highmore and the likes of Scott, Bergman, D Rob. I was tossing up between plan A and B, but would you back in C even though it means keeping Daniel?

    A) Downgrade Daniel to Jones, upgrade Drew (or Serong) to Mitchell
    B) Downgrade Clark to Jones, upgrade Daniel to Ridley
    C) Sideways Highmore to Jones, downgrade Drew to Finn Macrae (keep Daniel)

Ridley or Mitchell.. I favour Mitchell overall, however Mitchell even if he goes above his breakeven of 118 can be bought next week. Ridley will go up again and seems D1-6. For C it depends on whether you think Daniel will finish D1-6, I am not convinced. Clark and Drew are both sells over the next week or two. If you are playing the breakeven game, option B is best and then try and get Mitchell soon.

    Hi Trent,
If you could only choose 1 of Lochie Jones or Fin Macrae as a downgrade for Stephenson who would you go for based on scoring and JS?

Jones for sure- he is a known quantity whilst Macrae is still guesswork. A look for a week won’t hurt his price much.

CJ I would go with Jones. He appears to have reasonable JS for the time being. Macrae has a tough assignment first up against the Eagles. See how Macrae performs tomorrow night, his price more than likely won’t rise too much and you can pick him up next week if he is named. Good luck.

Hi mate – love your write up, so helpful! Would really appreciate some feedback on what to do with my team:

DEF: Laird, Ridley, Markov, Clark, Fantasia, Jones (Highmore, Kosi)
MIDS: Macrae, Merrett, Taranto, Anderson, Serong, Gulden, Powell, Jordon (Campbell, Berrry)
    RUCK: Gawn, Grundy (Flynn, Meek)
FWD: Phillips, Stephenson, JDG, Hind, Warner, Bergman (Rowe, Scott)

    24k in the bank.

Am thinking that JDG absolutely must go alongside either Clark or Fantasia. If it’s Fantasia then I can trade for Fin Macrae and Crisp. If it’s Clark it leaves me with a few thousand short of Stewart, but could go for a Rich from your list. Otherwise maybe a double downgrade to then put some money on top of Phillips and whichever of Clark/Fantasia is still left? Anything else your wise eyes can see with this piece of s.. team?
