My Team 2019: Version 2.1

The second week of the JLT Community Series calls for a new My Team post.

AFL Fantasy is here for 2019! The JLT Community Series is here and we’ll be playing with our teams more and more up until that full lockout at 7:50pm AEDT on Friday 22nd March.

All prices can be found by clicking here. Below is how initial prices have been calculated.

  • $12,800,000 salary cap is projected.
  • Players are priced based on their output last season. eg. 2018 average x magic number (approx 7142 for 2019).
  • Players who missed a full season receive a discount of 30% on their 2017 average.
  • Players who have missed two or more seasons received a discount of 35% on their last available average.
  • Players playing less than 10 games receive a 3% discount on each game under 10. eg. Play 5 games in 2016, then they receive a 15% discount. This is applied to the higher of their season average from the last two years.

Don’t forget to read the targets by Pete from on each club where you can also listen to the podcasts and download a printable pdf. Click here to access the articles. If you wish to continue using DT Live’s Drawing Board, click here to access Chad’s masterpiece.

DEF: Crisp, Milera, Smith, Williams, Rozee, Duursma (Hore, Burgess)
MID: Steele, Taranto, Rockliff, Sheed, B. Crouch, Liberatore, Walsh, Constable (Hind, Bewley)
    RUC: Witts, Goldy (Fort, Cameron)
FWD: Dangerfield, Menegola, Dunkely, Billings, Lynch (ADL), Setterfield (Cavarra, Drew)

Lack of fwd rookies has led me to this team. Very risky midfield but if it fires could see me well into the top 100. Any thoughts appreciated!

It may work early in the season but come the byes i can’t see you making enough cash to eventually have all the top players. I think in the mid you have to start at least 2-3 that will be definite top 8 mids (Macrae, Cripps, Brayshaw, M Crouch etc.). So i’d suggest trading Libba down to Gibbons and maybe T Lynch down to Parker (Drew on field), and then Steele & Taranto to two top mids and Crisp and Milera up to Laird and Whitfield if you can afford that.

Hello all. I’d like to get your thoughts on this, my current RDT team. I’m pretty happy with it as it stands. I’ve tried to go for starting premos with later bye rounds, so that I can upgrade to ones that have already had their byes. The way I see it, if Sloane and Greene can become premos I’ll only need 8 upgrades to get to a completed team, which is very doable with 30 trades. I’ve gone for a bit of a fruity combination in the ruck, but I do have some backup plans in case Smith doesn’t make the cut for Round 1.

All longtime dreamteam players know it never works out like that, Injuries, Suspensions, Rookies being dropped there are a thousand things that can go wrong in this game!

I myself count 11 keepers in your team (i didn’t include Sloane, Greene or Boak) so maybe one of those might fluke top 8 then would make 12 keeps therefore you need to upgrade 10 players and that is before Injuries, Suspensions, Rookies being dropped!..

      Hard game to Master!

      March 12, 2019 at 12:14 am

overall solid structure.. you’ve gone the extra grunt in fwd line than mids. Unsure about Brayshaw at this stage.. plays 4 good sides in first 7 rnds. last year he scored poorly against them vs his price. Viney could also affect his scores. I could be proven wrong here though. good luck! I like the Dunkley pick he will score well in the early rounds.

    • rand101

      March 12, 2019 at 7:30 pm

I’d like to start off by saying I commend your bold choices with beams, boak and lobb. However, the lobb decision is quite unsettling as he will likely float around and potentially play a key forward position, limiting his output. I know the R2 position is quite a challenge this year but I would advise to look elsewhere. Boak is an interesting selection and I like it. Beams is debatable as there are arguably better picks for around the same price that won’t have as much competition for time in the midfield. You have a good structure and with the extra cash why not upgrade to gawn. He and grundy are shaping up to be the go to ruck options.

Fwd rooks are slim pickings this yr but there are better options on JS than Cavarra and Balta for less than 250k, otherwise use your cash to upgrade them to mid pricers (Elliott, Linc or even Weideman) as those fwd rooks have shown in JLT they only produce sub 50 scores.
You’ve picked a few good PODs – hope it works out for ya.

Who has the better role for their team with most scoring potential?

    • Plastered Turtles

      March 12, 2019 at 11:36 am

Gibbons for sure… he played 80%+ game time both JLT games – suggests he will be considered for Rnd 1 and a better JS in the early rounds than the other two. Hind and Hayes didn’t play much JLT minutes. Hayes over Hind if both are named.

Hmmm. Not too huge on any of these to be honest. Depends on the rest of your back structure.

I think I would choose 3 though. Hurn has looked good in JLT and should continue his mark kick game, and get a few extra points through the kick in rule.
And Crisp looked real good yesterday, just ran around off half back with no one near him all day.

    • Plastered Turtles

      March 12, 2019 at 2:27 pm

Rocky .. I reckon there isn’t much difference between their predicted avg .. I am still not 100% convinced how Taranto will play once Hopper and Kelly comes back. But Rocky can win you games if he pigs it out and with Port’s newly touted game style.. who know what Rocky can do

    • Adonski

      March 12, 2019 at 3:07 pm

Taranto at the absolute worst should increase his average to around 100 with natural progression + more midfield time. Rocky at the absolute worst will stink it up and eventually get injured. All depends if you want to take the chance of him returning to his former glory. I’m not convinced personally.
