Welcome to the Saturday Slam. I am our host with the most, Calvin, and I will guide you through my top 6 picks heading into this big Moneyball contest. Once again, I’ve shopped around for a little value and therefore that should allow you to select your own premiums with some coin to spare.
$5,000 with the winner taking $650 and its pays $34.18 right down to 89th
Comes covered today in this contest:
North Melbourne v GWS 1:45pm
Richmond v West Coast
Geelong v Melbourne
Port Adelaide v Adelaide
Fremantle v Bulldogs
Harley Balic (MID, $3,800)
Ross Lyon is now the kindergarten teacher and letting the kids play. Introducing Harley Balic. He’s a prolific ball winner in the WAFL and was called a “Draft Steal” by the Dockers back in 2015. Expected to go within the top 25 picks, Balic was snapped up late by the Dockers at #38.
Injury has delayed his debut but after a great start in the WAFL, which saw Balic averaging 30+ disposals and 102pts in three games, he finally debuts this week against the Bulldogs who give up plenty of points.
Clayton Oliver (MID, $6,500)
A midfielder averaging 128.5 at this price is a must. Prices in Moneyball increase next week so enjoy getting on Oliver before his price soars. He is averaging 35.5 touches with 8 tackles a game and although Jordan Lewis is out, it shouldn’t slow the kid down too much. He can find his own ball and if he can keep his tackles up, he’s destined for another 100+ score against the Cats.
Charlie Cameron (FWD, $6,000)
Charlie has flourished in his new role up the ground and has found 75% of his possessions outside of the forward 50. Never before has Cameron scored over 90pts in a game and this year, already, he has done it twice averaging 103.5 so far from his two games with 7.5 tackles. Cameron is back at home in the Showdown against arch rivals Port Adelaide and should be around the 90 mark again.
Toby Nankervis (RUC, $5,700)
Easy pick really and we all should have him sitting as our #1 ruckman today. “Nank the Tank” is averaging 89 and will save you heaps of coin if you want to steer away from the premiums such as Max Gawn (RUC, $9,600). Nank is only going up against the Vardy/Giles combo who Hickey had 44 hit outs and 86pts on last week… Big tip: Nank could nearly crack triple figures today.
Shaun Higgins (FWD, $7,000)
There was a time when “Higgins” was a dirty word to be using in the Fantasy community but he has continued his pre-season form with a stunning start to the new year. He is currently averaging 26 touches a game along with 5.5 tackles with a score of 102pts.
Take part in the $5000 Saturday Slam.
Ollie Wines (MID, $8,600)
Wines has a super record in Showdown games against the Crows and is my happy hour special for today.
He scored 124 and 113 against them last year and over his career they are his 2nd favourite team to score points against.
Ollie is averaging 112.5 after score of 110 and 115 and has started the year on fire.
In this game, I also need to mention Sam Powell-Pepper (MID, $4,300) because at his price, he’s a steal. SPP is averaging 77.5 and pretty much picks himself.
