Partial Lockout Round 5: In Effect

The Partial Lockout for Round 5 in now in effect. This means our Brisbane and St Kilda players are locked into wherever you have them and whatever you have clicked on them. How are you looking with the partial lockout now underway?

The Partial Lockout for Round 5 in now in effect. This means our Brisbane and St Kilda players are locked into wherever you have them and whatever you have clicked on them.

Hopefully you were smart and locked in someone as your VC for your double shot at captaincy with the loophole. I’ve gone with Leigh Montagna hoping he will carve up the Lions midfield again. Well, Calvin has made my lock him in. So I’m happy with that (this is being written before the game, so eat a dick captain hindsight experts if he sucks arse).

Anyway, what this partial lockout means is that we can trade and edit all of our remaining players (including Captains and emergencies). If you don’t know how to deal with the partial lockout stuff, maybe go back and read Calvin’s Captains. (What’s the bet people still ask about it in the comments here?).

Discuss the Partial Lockout and the everything right up until the 3:15pm AEST FULL LOCKOUT when the Port Adelaide v Gold Coast game starts.

Should I keep my Adcock VC score? My other options are Pendles, Bartel, Swan, or Boyd

I wouldnt personally.. my cut off was 125.. Swan plays his worst team this week, he will get the Hocking tag which means he will drop about 20-30 points off his score.. Pendlebury or Boyd.. I think they will both exceed 120

590/5 assuming I keep Montagna’s VC score. Not sure though – to play it safe with his 126 or roll the dice with Swan? Huge game on Monday, he could really turn it on… but it’s a risk.

Where all the Adcock haters now. 3 times he has gotten 120 ( well 119 and 120,120). I backed him from round one and everyone after his 65 thought he would be a bust even though it was his first AFL in almost a year.

I wouldn’t say “haters,” tho, more like “doubters.”
Interesting to see the votes come Brownlow Medal night- 3 & 2 b/w Adcock & Redden, maybe 1 to Merrett?

Hahah yes FYDT Boosh. That sucks big time. I’d probably give Goddard or Montanga a vote or 2. But then again it’s only second quarter over here in WA…

I admit I had my doubts in the preseason, but he is the link in the backline. He plays the gram role and plays loose, the team look for him to kick the ball inside 50. The way he is playing, I can safely say he is a jet and all of the doubters got it wrong. Any person in the top 50 picked Adcock from the beginning

I don’t think there was much doubt about his ability or point-scoring potential. For me, it was his injury history that put me off a bit, but happy to see him cranking along as he is good to watch.

    Interesting game this one:

    Goddard – 113
    Adcock – 119
    Redden – 138
    Riewoldt – 80
Bewick (on bench fortunately) – 21

Overall, 450/4 is pretty solid. Didn’t decide to take the risk with the Captain’s Loophole and not disappointed I didn’t. I still think either Swan, Murphy or Boyd will score higher but I’ll work that out later.

Really annoyed by the fact that Bewick got injured and, with the potential that he is out for a few weeks, I can’t have dead cash on my bench and I might find a suitable trade to Iles, McKenzie or Polec. There might be others I look at but they’re the first ones that come to mind.

Also looking at those boys on the bubble and trying to compile a list of rookies that are going to ripen in the next few rounds. They will either be downgrade targets for a few rounds time for those dud rookies (everyone gets them e.g. Richardson, Krakouer, Atley) or for the rookies who have reached their peak price. I was definitely impressed by McCauley and Polec tonight though, especially Broc’s 36 hitouts. Insanely impressive for his second game against McEvoy. Smith was the other rookie of significance but an average of 56 still leaves much to be desired.

On a final note, Daniel Merrett seems to finally be showing his inner DT skills with an exceptional 88 tonight and an overall average of 75.25, manifesting itself in a 35k price rise. A star of the future?

    • Avatar

      April 21, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Hard to say… Merrett ran his arse off tonight, so he pulled off a reasonable score despite his tendency to spoil. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of his, but would always be sceptical about his ability to score consistently DT-wise.

Agreed about Bewick’s knock. Hopefully subbing him off was just a precaution, but given that by that stage in the game they would have known that Cornelius wouldn’t be an ideal sub, you’d think they wouldn’t do it unless they really had to. Will have to keep an ear out for news on that next week and figure out whether to get rid of him after two poor weeks. Shame though – he’s shown he has the capacity to score well if he can play a full game.

Haha thanks for your concern, but I’m always scared I’ll screw it up, so I’m just more inclined to pick a stright captain without worrying about the loophole and the potential for late withdrawals.

    279 / 3

    Goddard, McCauley, Riewoldt.

Had the VC on Riewold but will now weigh up between Pendles, Watson and Swallow. Leaning towards the latter at the moment – all three are in fantastic form but neither Pendles or Watson have particularly good records for Anzac Day. Could be a toss of the coin thing tomorrow morning.

Pendles won the anzac medal last year and didn’t crack 100?? Watson could be a good unique option since he does kick it more but Essendon would have to be competitive for him to score massively. Jobe wont get many scores 125 + this year

Adcock as VC, brings up a tricky decision. Saw his 3rd quarter score of 110 and thought he was gonna tear it up, but had a quiet last quarter. Thinking I’ll actually take the score, its about time Swan had a shocking score.

  7. Avatar

    April 22, 2011 at 12:18 am

Went for Goddard as the VC, think I’ll opt not to take it and put the C on Swan or Boyd this week. I know Swan’s got a shit history against the Bombers and on Anzac day but in the end that’s what it is…history. For all we know he could bust out another 140. Forgive me for being cautious (or reckless, depending on your opinion), but I think I’ll back Swan.

Also, pretty devastated that my forward line issues prevented me from ditching Broughton for Adcock. Seems the Adcock traders are pretty happy with themselves! I have to make at least one trade to avoid a doughnut this round. Firstly I will be forced to trade out Day which will allow me $170,000 for another forward rookie. I’m leaning towards McKernan unless someone can convince me otherwise. Secondly, if Krakouer is omitted I will have to trade him as well to avoid a second doughnut. This will allow me another $170k to spend. Any good options after McKernan? If Krak is named I’ll save the trade for another time and keep whingeing that I missed adcock.

    Opinions would be awesome!

Sorry, probably should have noted that the forward rookies I already own are Tapscott, Darling and Matera.

I think you’re sacrificing the future of your team too much in the name of doughnut-dodging. I know they don’t taste good, but swallow them down and by next week they’ll be out of your system. On the other hand, the guy you bought in for under 170K could be a lasting reminder of a knee jerk reaction. M2C

Would i be better off to upgrade Kkrakour to Brad Green or Alan Didak after round 7. Both have been plummeting in value and They both have breakevens over 100 which could mean another price drop. I will be able to make one of these trades using the money from downgrading broughts to toy.

I punted on Roo thinking he would see more of it than Goddard, so it will be Swanny for me.
How hot was Adcock in the 3rd quarter? Leather poisoning if ever I saw it.

Spewing about Broc. Got his 86 on the pine. Was thinking that somehow the partial em selection for the bench was somehow diff to that for capt so put it in the too hard basket. At least he will make me some cash and I know for certain what to do NEXT TIME.

Good start with Adcock 119 and Goddard 113. Tossing up to keep Adcock’s VC score. I know it sounds greedy as I dont have Swan but my other captains have been:

    Gibbs 144
    Boyd 125
    Sylvia 132

my big trade question for next week is do i trade keffe for mccauley cos with mccauley’s 86 in his rolling ave he should rise 100k and could be a good downgrade option for some cash later on.. and could also be good cover if 2 of my rucks happen to be out on the same weekend.. just not sure if it’s worth the trade as i will most likely not need my 4th ruck.. but an easy 100k is hard to go past.. opinions please :-)

    • Avatar

      April 22, 2011 at 12:44 pm

i don’t think the fairly small amount of money you’ll make will be worth 2 trades to be honest.

    • Avatar

      April 22, 2011 at 12:44 pm

It sounds like a good Idea but it requires 2trades so unless he gets to 230ish it’s not worth it. I don’t think he will get a game next week even though he was great because drummond, Maguire and maybe even Xavier Clarke (god forbid) will come in so he may lose his spot.

    • Avatar

      April 22, 2011 at 2:52 pm

i brought him in this week even though its only a bench spot i think he held his own in the ruck last night and voss will probably go for the same strategy next week against richmond by playing clark and berger up fwd to stretch the tigers defenders… d=just look at team selections for next week but i think he has a huge upside and at 80k you can afford to burn a trade

Also, anyone else sticking well clear of Swan this week…. Generally I pick Swan and and have Boydy, J Selwood or Pendles VC

This week I feel that Hocking will own Swan and will keep him to 80-90

So I have made Swan VC and have Pendles(A Great record against the Bombers) as Captain

    Later that year 107

Averaging those 111.75… Mmm juicy. Added to this I think he has shown thus year that he tackles more and will also be rested forward where he will kick a couple.
