Righteo. Last week I did it again! Oh yeaahhhh! V8 TIME!!
Swanny was my number #1 pick and again did not let us down with another huge 141. A huge 61% of people took him as captain this week and will most likely again this week. Montagna was my #2 pick and he had 129 and Gary Ablett is having a few low ones these days (low 100′s I mean) and he racked up 109. The other boys were solid but this is another week were old V8 drilled 5×100+ scores. What more do you want? But with that said… I did it with your help! Thanks heaps for last weeks effort lads, but unfortunately you guys were too good! I’m calling on your help again as I am once again snowed under with work. But I promise you that I will be back next week with the normal much loved Calvin’s Captains format.

As before I have started the research, showing how it’s done with my man DANE SWAN. The more details the better lads so get to it!

Player: Dane Swan
Vs: St Kilda @ MCG
Form:In case you have been dead over the last few weeks, Swanny has been going off with 141 and 161 in his last 2 weeks. His form has been awesome and you can nearly just pick him based on this alone.
History: He averages just 93 in his last 3 against the Saints with scores of 112, 89 and 79. This is not good!
Consider This: He played them last in Rd. 3 this year where he had 26d for 112pts (tagged by Geary, pffth). Clinton Jones went to Didak (84) which is good news for us and might go to him again. But what happened in the games where he had 89 and 79. The 89 was the QF last year where he only had 24d and went head to head with Lenny (Jones went to Didak again) and in the 79 game which was in Rd. 7 that year, and Jones did tag him then for his 24d and Swan hurt his knee in that one as well. The good news here is that Jones has gone to Didak in the last 2 times they met. Swanny should be free, and with the form he is in… eeeww. Swan had 150 in his last game at the MCG on top of that. But they are playing St Kilda… one of the best lock down teams this year. Worried? Not me.. he should be fine! You must back him in based on form alone.

How can you not have Swanny as #1. He has been on FIRE (hence the pic). The other guys are going to smoke it as well this week so fingers crossed that you have a good pick with your captain this week! For me… SWANDAWG!! But I must admit… Hodgey and Bartel look very promising… Thanks for your help too guys

Player: Matthew Boyd

Vs: Port Adelaide @ TIO

Form: Averaging 127 from his last 5 games in 2010, with a “delicious” 142 last week.

History: Apart from Daniel Cross, Boyd has scored higher than any other Bulldog in his last five games against Port Adelaide. His career average against the Power is only 79.6, but his last 5 games against them have him averaging 114! Since he’s in career best DT form at the moment, I’d be very surprised to see him fail to reach this average. In a round where St Kilda meets Collingwood and there’s no guarantee of high scores, Matty Boyd may just be your man.

Player: Jimmy Bartel

Vs: Adelaide @ AAMI

Form: Averaging 116 from his last 5 games in 2010, with a best-on-ground performance last week against the Hawks, scoring 139 DT points. Jimmy has let us few of us down as a captain choice this year. Both times I’ve picked him, he’s scored sub-100. I reckon this week might be the week where he repays me.

History: JIMMY SMASHES THE CROWS. His last five scores against the crows are: 121, 111, 145, 160, 117. This is an average of 130!!!!! Whoah Nelly! Bartel has the highest average against the crows in the last 5 games Geelong has played against them. Given that the crows’ best tagger at the moment seems to be Brent Reilly (who is shit at tagging) and the fact that Jimmy doesn’t often get a tag, I think he is going to rape the DT points big-time this week! Calvin’s friend “Barnacle Bartel” needs to wear his lucky long-sleeved jumper again this week and pull out a 150+ score! The question is, do you have the guts to pick him?

Vs: West Coast @ Etihad
Form: Is in terrible DT form, finally broke into the 80′s last week after 3 weeks of scores in the 70′s.
History: Last 3 v’s West Coast have been 128,70,94 for an average of 97, in all 3 games he’s been tagged by Adam Selwood and you’d expect Selwood to get the job again. Last time they met at Etihad was in round 12, 2008 where Stanton got that 128.
Consider This: Is playing West Coast who have given up 16 ton’s in the last 3 weeks, but the game is at etihad where Stanton’s average this year is only 90 not at the G where he really scores big. There’s too many low numbers in those stats for my liking and whilst Stanton can rack up big numbers there are safer captain options out there.

We have a lot of ‘mid year’ work to do in our jobs – similar to what we were doing with the episode! But real life ones. They take a whole lot of time! ;)

History: last 4 are 92, 155, 78, 91
Consider This: HIs only score under 100 this year is 96, he is apparently in a form slump at the moment yet is still avg 109 in his last 5

Player: BRETT DELEDIO
Vs: North

Form: 3-Round average is 101, with scores of 95, 95, 114. And, another 100 just prior in the Tigers’ unheralded recent winning streak.

History: Hasn’t played North yet this year, but scores of 70 and 84 against them in 2009 doesn’t bode well. Richmond as a whole were pretty ordinary in 2009 though so it’s hard to read much into that.

Consider This: Sunday’s game is at the MCG where his last three games average 96, which is more or less his average for the year. Lid’s average when the Tigers win is 102 with a lowest score of 95. He’s been Mr Consistency since round six with only one sub-90 score… but nothing over 115 either.

Predicted Score: Tipping an even 100.

Player: JASON WINDERLICH
Vs: West Coast

Form: 3-Round average is 111 after smashing out 113, 94, 126.

History: 85 in their away loss to WCE earlier this year, didn’t play them in 2008 or 2009 at all.

Consider This: Playing at Etihad this week, where he averages 84. However, that includes 45 against St Kilda and Geelong, and 104 and 118 against Port and the Dogs, respectively. So, it’s always hard to know what you’ll get with Winderlich. Form has been great and coming up against the hapless Eagles, I can’t see him getting anything under 100 as the opposition’s (limited) resources will be focused on Watson and Stanton. Essendon haven’t won for awhile but he scored 118 and 112 in their last two victories.

Predicted Score: 115

You’d never seriously consider making either of those gents your captain, but that might help for a roughie… This is more for those who like a punt, really. Besides, I figured that most of the real guns will be covered by the time I’ve finished typing this, anyway.

Form: Average in his last 5 games is 108. That’s awesome by anyone else’s standards, but marks a serious decline in DT scoring for Gazza after his unbelievable start to the season.

History: Gary’s least favourite team to play is Adelaide. His average in his last 5 games against them is 99. BUT! I reckon this is probably because Shirley used to tag him pretty much every time they played. Since Shirley won’t be around this match, perhaps Gary could smash out a big one. Brent Reilly won’t do shit to Gary! That being said, there are several other Cats who tend to perform better against the crows, the two most notable of which are Bartel and Corey. Nevertheless, I reckon Gazza will return to form this week and is my “smokey” for the top score of the round.

Form: Abletts been very solid over the last 5 weeks with 5 tons. Only 1 score under 100 all year ( 96 ). Scores of 110, 103, 114, 108, 109 for his last 5 (avg of 110.33)
History: Last year played the crows 3 times with scores of 102 (pre-season), 155, 92. That 155 was at AAMI where he racked up 40+ possies.
Consider This: Ablett has been tagged by Shirley over the last few years. With Shirley gone, Reilly will get the tagging job so that could mean a difference in scores. Abletts last 3 games at AAMI are 155, 78 and 91.

Form: His last 2 weeks have been solid with 124 and 92 and is playing some good footy.
History: Averages 81 against the saints from 8 career games with his last 3 against them being 122, 10 (injured early in the game) and 70.
Consider This: Is averaging about 105 at the MCG this year and the last time they played (70), Pendles was used off the HFF in parts. Should play exclusively in the midfield this time round which should increase his scoring output.

History: 78, 116, 69 last 3 scores against the Lions.
Consider This: Last 3 scores at Aurora have been 110, 140, 70. avg of 106.67
Predicted Score: 120

Could be a very solid capt choice this week, with scores of 110, 140 at Aurora this year against similar quality teams to Brisbane, he could be a good chance for a big game

Form: Got the pink pig tag last week and still managed 87 the games before that were 119,61,140 for a 4 game average of 102. Did cork his knee in the 2nd qtr of the 61pt game vs essendon but scored 30 in the last quarter anyway?
History: Last 3 vs the lions have been 69, 116,78. Hodge’s scores in Launceston this year is where it get’s exciting 110 and a massive 140.
Consider This: When Mitchell misses Hodge goes missing. Hodge’s average this year without Mitchell in the team is 92, with Mitchell in it’s a massive 130, that’s an average of 130!!!
Predicted Score: 130+ (if Mitchell plays)

Form: Has been pretty consistant all year. Had a low scoring game last week so may come back with a big one.
History: His last 2 games against Sydney have been 101 and a massive 134. He had a 72 before that and a seriers of low scores (before he really found his DT game). They have not played sydney this year but his scoring seems to be better than last yeat so maybe a smokie.
Consider This: Probably not the best choice but could potentially pump out a large number in a team that will come out fighting this week.

Form: Only managed an 80 last week but before that he had 2 100+ scores. He did have a streak of 7 100+ scores until a 65 so he’s more than often going to get 100+
History: His past 3 scores against Collingwood have been 88, 116 and 130 for an average of 111. Keep in mind that 88 was from this year.
Consider This: Believe it or not he (and St. Kilda) has only played one match so far at the MCG and that was against Geelong in Round 13 where he had 134 points.

Form: Last 5 games: 80.2 Last 3: 74

History: Last 5 games vs. Melbourne: (1st = Most Recent) 97, 148, 118, 127, 134. Avg= 124.8

Consider This: With Barlow out you would assume Pav will be spending a lot more time in the guts. He didn’t set the world on fire with his 98 last week but you could see his form of earlier in the year was coming back. A couple of fumbles cost him 110+. You can see what playing in the middle did for Adam Goodes and expect the same from Pavlich for the run home. Finals mean the world to Pav and he’ll do everything he can to carry the dockers to a top 4 finish! He’s back at Subi and I expect him to really fire.

Player: Paul Chapman
Vs: Adelaide
Form: Averaging 113 in the last 5 games, including a big 130 in round 14.

History: His past 3 scores against Adelaide have seen him with an average of 102. However, this average is buoyed due to a huge 136. His two previous scores are sub 100.

Consider This: Adelaide is not the force it once was in previous years where they had a tight defensive unit and while they have recently had a good run, the teams they have beaten have been mostly bottom 8 sides. Also, Chapman spends more time in the midfield whereas in previous years he played forward and relied on goal kicking to get his scores up. Expect a big one!

History: Avgs 113 from last 3 (123,115,101) and a big 145 back in 07.

Form: Last 4 weeks-117, 130, 99, 112. That 99 being his lowest for the year. You can’t go worng to be be honest.
History: Last 3 – 136 (09), 86 (hammy tightness), 84 (08).
86, (2009) 84, 101(2008) in his last 3 at AAMI.
Consider This: Chappy has a low of 99 this year, averages 123.5 form his last two games this year. He has avoided the tag in recent times against Adelaide, he will chop up!!!

History: Averages 103 in the last 3 games against them but only 85 at AAMI in his last two there. Not good…
Consider This: Last 3 games v the Crows with scores of 138 (r18 last year at Skilled) and 86 (r4 last year at AAMI) and 84 (r14 2008 at AAMI). Not the best at AAMI the last 2 games but his form this year is scintillating!! Should be considered on form alone.

History: Averaging 109 last 3 games against the Crows. Doesnt matter about the ground, he loves them.
Consider This: This is the juicy part. Last game 104 (r18 last year @Skilled), 104 again (r4 last year @ AAMI) and 118 (r14 2008 @ AAMI). Has only had 2 sub 100 scores in the last 10 games and they were 90 in r12 and 96 in r9. Selwood is in top form and should be in your top 5

History: 20 (this was the game he injured himself in) 134, 126, 128, 105 (avg of 123 when not inj)
Consider This: Saint Nick loves playing the pies! Have a look at those scores. The 134 and 128 were in finals where he kicked 5 goals in each. He should smash it. But sadly I doubt it will happen this week due to him only just returning. Could be a unique pick if u have him in your team.

Player: Brendon Goddard

Vs: Collingwood @ MCG

Form: late withdrawal last week with the flu but straight back into the side this week. In the middle of a career-best season, don’t expect last week’s flu to slow goddard down at all. In his last 7 games for the year, Goddard has been averaging a whopping 124 points with a low of just 120 in those games. if your after consistency, Goddard is your man.

History: In his last 3 games against the Pies, Goddard has gone 122, 116 and 123. Great scores with consistency. just what a DT coach likes in a captain.

Consider this: continues to avoid a strong tag thanks to ilkes of montagna, dal santo and hayes in the team. missing last week may be a worry, however i expect goddard to bounce back well

I might be behind the eight ball here and people might already be using this thing but I have just come across the wonderful world of accelerators and found that final siren has one for AFL Player Stats. I’m not going to go in to it in much detail but if you have *internet explorer 8*

1) go to http://www.finalsiren.com and then at the top right hand click add ie8 accelerator link
2) then, where ever you are (even say on this forum) and you see a players name, highlight that players name and right click, then click on the AFL Statistics Accelerator and a little blow out window comes up showing the players last five game stats including DT score and also last two seasons averages. From there you can also click on the players name in the bubble and it will open up his detailed statistics page.

Pretty handy if you are say reading an article about a player and you just quickly want to check his current form without opening another page and having to go to a separate site and then click a few links to get there.

Remember though, it only works with *internet explorer 8* Well I think it does anyway, I hate computer software.

  That FinalSiren website is awesome, if u click ‘Form-guide’ it list the 8 matches for the weekend, then gives some info of the last few times they’ve met and at what venue, useful for Footy-Tipping, but if u click ‘top 20 players statistics’ it then gives u a breakdown of the top 20 players by kicks marks etc. I don’t know if the rating system is DT, SC or something else, but either way it give u a good idea of how players match up against the current week’s opposition.

Form: Gia has been a bit of a rollercoaster lately with some 100′s and some mid 70 and 80s. (81,71,110,108) and before that much lower scores.. He is getting back to his form and with Barry Hall out expect him to kick some goals and if that doesnt work and Aker is back then maybe more midfield time :)

History: He hasnt played against port that much lately but in his past games he has gotten 90, 99, 81, 119. Average of 97. Missed a few games back in 06 etc against port but hasnt been getting at least 20 disposals in each game (20,20,21,36)

Consider This: Barry hall out.. where do there goals come from? GIA! Rotates through mids and past 4 has gotten at least 20 disposals.. 20 disposal and a few goals etc lots of DT points :) If your a RISKY MAN AND WANT TO TAKE A MASSIVE RISK then have a punt at Gia. Dont know bout his form at AAMI though but if cooney or someone gets tagged by K.Cornes then might be rested forward and Gia wont get tagged..

yeah SD is right…
he is a gun but job security isn’t great.
players like maxwell, davis and dick are going to come back from injury.
we also have players like medhurst and fraser running around in the reserves.. (medhurst should have never been f**king dropped in the first place).
sometime this year all those players should find there way back into the pies line up,, yes even fraser.
from the team that took on port last week the most likely players to be dropped would be goldsack, anthony, blair and you feel like only two of josh fraser, leigh brown, ben reid and alan toovey would be able to make the pies side. if it was up to me i would go fraser and reid.. but brown really close to reid as a backmen so we will see what happens there. toovey would also be very unlucky to miss out.
so yes job security for blair isn’t great.

Still have Hille and think its time.

Hille to Ryder costs about 35k ( I know he has a 127 be but I need someone and worried Cox will break down)

Then Hunt to Lake which will cost 190k

Least me with roughly 305-310k but only 3 trades.

Would still have martin in midfield and be the only one who really needs upgrading.
