Friday Fantasy Fill Up – Rd. 6

Grab a knock off froth and get set for round six and the super-long Anzac Round.

Welcome to a Friday arvo column that hopefully helps you get set for the weekend ahead. I’ll be looking at the key points/questions that have popped up during the week with some quick fire opinions, plus a look at how the mighty Warne Dawgs are looking ahead of the coming round.

Don’t miss:

Catch these bonus things this week:

Holding Tom Green, Zach Merrett … and Will Day

I held Will Day last week and with the Tom Green suspension, it feels like it was a bad call. Mainly because now I have two premiums out this week and my score is definitely going to take a hit (really sucks for the first week of Knockout over on Patreon).

The plan will be to hold both this week. It is tempting to trade Green, mainly because there are decent premium options to move him to – whether that’s across top a top 10 midfielder or trying to do a mini-downgrade to a Zak Butters type which can hopefully allow you to move a rookie on to a half-decent mid-pricer (ie. Chayce Jones or Jason Johannison – more on them later).

As I’ve got the cash to perform a down and up to a big premium, I am going to hold.

If you’ve got Zach Merrett and Green, I think I would move one. Who is a tough question. I can see both being top eight midfielders. Maybe I would hold Merrett for consistency… but Green has all the attributes to be a 110 guy. Old-school me will move Green and stick with Merrett.

You can pivot on your decisions depending on the rookie scores. Have a crack at the bench loophole. While not the exact example you’re looking for here, but I have Corey Wagner on my bench tonight. If I like it, Chesser will play on field… if I don’t, I will flick Wilmot on – or a trade could still be there to grab a premium defender (unlikely).

Upgrade season … who do downgrade?

In order to perform an upgrade, we need to cull a rookie. While I seem to always bang on about a rookie crisis, there are some names floating through BUT we have a bit of a crisis on cash generation.

We’re not moving on Harry Sheezel (hope he plays) or Will Ashcroft.

Kade Chandler, Cam Mackenzie and Ollie Hollands have got themselves to prices where there is some cash to do something on the otherside, but really, it isn’t huge. They can be culled and should be in the mix to move as the cash on their heads can help you make an upgrade.

It is hard to do anything with the guys under $400k. Whether that’s a Mattaes Phillipou, Luke Pedlar or even Fergus Greene who have some money to make due to recent scores. It is also hard to do much with Lachie Cowan or the non-playing Noah Long or Campbell Chesser. In saying that, maybe a play is to limit the red dot rookies a bit by performing a double downgrade to help set up cash gen and a preferred upgrade next week.

The next question is who to get.

I like Seamus Mitchell based on the eye test … and his DEF/FWD status. That is a bit of a winner with all the DPP that’s going on to help cover in different lines. If he makes the team with Scrimshaw in it, I think I will go there. Matt Roberts looks to have got himself into the 22 after being sub early in the season. It was hard to split them … and I could argue that Roberts is the better option as he’s now in the team, has FWD status and easily has better scoring ability.

Geez… I may flip flop again before the day is out.

You could launch into Alex Cincotta for his debut. The Blues announced this morning that the 26-year-old will play. Just be aware that Saad is out for 1-2 weeks. But we can wait a week … although he can score (136 in VFL last week).

I think it’s too much to pay now for Corey Wagner (I went last week) based on his shaky position in the side. He’s been backed in for tonight, but if his disposal is anything like last week, then I doubt he gets a third game. Matthew Johnson has been named on the ball. Almost a bit of a forgotten man with all the downgrade options this week. Copped the vest early on, scored 55 last week… MID at $215k. He’s an option.

Chayce Jones v Jason Johannisen

Ahhh… this one has popped up a bit this week.

Off the top, I don’t think I would really want to go with either of them. These moves often go pear-shaped, but there are good reasons why they could work.

Chayce Jones is my pick because Jason Johannisen is coached by Bevo (and there are a few guys who can play that role). Things can change pretty quickly at the Dogs, and that’s something I don’t want to be part of. I’ll leave it up to you as to who you want, because I can see pros for both.

What makes this move a positive thing is the price point, obviously.

A move from a rookie – especially one of those red dot ones … or one that doesn’t have a lot of growth in them like Cowan, JVR, etc – could be a good play. You’re essentially moving a rookie who isn’t going to generate a heap of cash to a similarly priced player (or a bit up) for a good month of cash gen, and hopefully better scores than the rookie would be posting. Win/win.

I would prefer to be getting the rookie and the premium… but again, old-school me is talking here. We are cash strapped. This is possibly the way to play the game… possibly.

Warne Dawgs – Round 6

Ok… it’s a big week for the Dawgs. Holding Will Day from last week and also holding Tom Green now for this week. I’ll take a hit, but with almost $300k in the bank, it will allow me to do a down/up which will get me to a full-blown premium in Touk Miller who I love for the bye round. Nerd Alert!

A bit could change this arvo with 5pm team … and possibly into tomorrow, but this is where it stands.
