It’s Thursday!!
It was business as usual for most in round 8, unless you were fielding Tom Atkins and Jack Ross. A lot of the rookies from round 1 are still playing which is unfortunate, but what I am loving is that there hasn’t been a relieving second wave introduced yet. Be very careful who you downgrade to because you’ll most likely be calling on them in a few weeks during the byes (if they’re still playing…).
Round 9 kicks off 20:10 AEST Friday night so have all your trades locked in by then! The Traders will be reacting LIVE today from 18:15 AEST on the Official AFL Fantasy Facebook page to the team announcements, so think of this article as your text-based companion guide.
As always, this post will be updated as more information comes in, so if you’ve seen some news that I’ve missed feel free to tweet it at me and I’ll follow it up.
Updates:
Matt Crouch is officially out.
Geelong have pulled a sneaky on us! Tom Atkins out, Charlie Constable in. I’m as shocked as you are…
West Coast vs Melbourne
Willie Rioli will play his first game in 2019. Tom Hickey hasn’t recovered in time so Nathan Vardy is rucking solo. Jake Waterman has been omitted after one game in 2019.
Melbourne have unleashed the ‘Ginger Ninja’, Oskar Baker (170k MID)! Jake Melksham, Michael Hibberd, Jordan Lewis, and Declan Keilty (poor lad) are out. Tim Smith, Alex Neal-Bullen, and Harrison Petty (239k DEF) are the other ins.
Collingwood vs St. Kilda
Dayne Beams and Travis Varcoe come in for the Pies, Jamie Elliot is injured, and Rupert Wills is omitted.
St. Kilda unleash ‘speed machine’ Robbie Young (170k FWD). Jonathon Marsh is the other inclusion. Jimmy Webster and Ben Long are out.
Brisbane vs Adelaide
Zac Bailey will miss 6 weeks with a hamstring, he’s replaced by debutant Mitchell Hinge (170K DEF). Ryan Lester and Tom Cutler have been omitted for Josh Walker and Rhys Mathieson.
Matt Crouch has been named but he’s still 50/50 to play. Riley Knight has been omitted for Chayce Jones, Bryce Gibbs is an emergency…
Geelong vs Western Bulldogs
Sam Menegola is having knee surgery and Charlie Constable has been omitted…for some reason. Joel Selwood is in and so is…DARCY FORT (170k RUC)! Ohh but he’s the same bye as Grundy and Gawn…oh well, still a cash cow.
No changes for the Bulldogs which means Tim English misses again.
Essendon vs Fremantle
Worsfold finally swings the axe! Devon Smith and Orazio Fantasia are out injured, Zac Clarke, Brayden Ham, and David Myers have been omitted. Joe Daniher comes back into the side after being rested, he’s joined by Mark Baguley, Josh Begley, Kyle Langford, and Ben McNiece. Geez Jayden Laverde can only make second emergency, might be time to find a new team, kid.
Connor Blakely makes his 2019 debut! Taylin Duman also comes in, the outs are Travis Colyer and Ryan Nyhuis.
North Melbourne vs Sydney
Scott Thompson, Luke McDonald and Marley Williams all comes in. Sam Durdin is suspended, Sam Wright is injured, and Curtis Taylor is omitted.
Lance Franklin misses another week with his hamstring complaint. Kieren Jack is out injured, in comes James Rowbottom (254k MID).
Port Adelaide vs Gold Coast
Port Adelaide have made three omissions, none of them Willem Drew…yet. Todd Marshall, Aidyn Johnson, and Ryan Burton are out. Brad Ebert misses his second consecutive game with concussion. Joe Atley (227k MID) and Joel Garner (170k FWD) are on the extended bench, Garner making his debut and Atley playing his first game since 2017. Zak Butters is also back along with Billy Frampton (283k RUC), Riley Bonner, Sam Mayes, and Peter Ladhams (170k RUC).
Brayden Fiorini is back after his knee injury, but Pearce Hanley, Touk Miller and Sean Lemmens are all out injured. Will Brodie, Sam Day, George Horlin-Smith, Jesse Joyce, Ben King (260k FWD), and Jez McLennan (226k DEF) are the potential inclusions.
Richmond vs Hawthorn
Ruckman Toby Nankervis will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks, and Jack Ross is out indefinitely with an ankle sprain. The most likely suspects to come in are Ivan Soldo (359k RUC) and Riley Collier-Dawkins (232k MID). They’re joined on the extended bench by Nick Vlaustin, Callum Coleman-Jones (170k RUC/FWD), Daniel Rioli, and Jacob Townsend.
No sign of Isaac Smith or Chad Wingard. Teia Miles, Conor Glass, Kaiden Brand, and Conor Nash are the potential ins, no outs so far.
GWS vs Carlton
I think we’ve saved the best for last, Stephen Coniglio out injured. Apparently it’s a one-weeker but could easily turn into more you’d think. Zac Langdon and Matt Buntine are also out injured. Lachie Whitfield and Shane Mumford have been included on the extended bench. They’re joined by Isaac Cumming, Brett Deledio, Jackson Hately, Lachlan Keeffe, and Harry Perryman.
It looks like Carlton will get one defender back but then lose two more as their back-line woes continue. Lachie Plowman has a fractured cheekbone and Tom Williamson has some back problems. Harrison Macreadie, Nic Newman, Lochie O’Brien, Matthew Kennedy, Jarrod Garlett, and Alex Fasolo round out the extended bench.
