The Stream Team – Round 22

Hello, all. I have to be honest here, I saw zero full games of football this weekend because I was away on a trip to Mt. Gambier, a town everyone should put on their bucket list… *cough*. They have Scroll Queen – the best scrolls you’ll ever have. They also have a massive crater that houses a beautiful blue lake and a frisbee golf course. And pubs. But this isn’t a travel blog, and you probably don’t care about things unrelated to footy in my life…

Anyway, the purpose of this article is to suggest one-week streaming options for draft leagues. Each week, I compile a team of lowly owned players (<40% ownership) that are worthy of a one-week pick-up-and-play, helping you fill any gaps you may have in your starting squads.

But first, let’s see how I went last round:

HITS

Blake Hardwick (90) – I enjoyed this hit in my remaining team’s elimination final match (victory), but with Brisbane on hand, I may look elsewhere this week.

Marcus Herbert (104) – BOOM. I hit this one in the same elimination final win and owe a lot to ol’ Turbo Herbo for getting me the W. With the Pies to come this week, I’m certainly holding him.

Stephen Coniglio (99) – I didn’t see the game, but Cogs’ statline almost looks like a prime Cogs statline. Reports say he was playing a high half-forward role where he rotated with the mids and with the Suns on hand, could be a handy stream once again this week.

Mitch Georgiades (88) – Nice. The Giants are certainly a team to stream against for the remainder of the season.

MISSES

Sam Banks (57) – I usually consider a miss any score <50, but goddamnit, this guy is a frustrating play and I need to vent. I’ll be avoiding him for the remainder of the season because he’s far too unreliable for finals.

With my boy (and Shoe-in of the Week), Matty J, only scoring 78, I wasn’t totally pleased with my week, but I’m content with the absence of misses. Perhaps I should consider a miss any score below 60… thoughts?

Here are the lowly owned players that I like as stream targets for Round 22 (ownership % taken from AFL Fantasy):

DEFENDERS

Matt Roberts (~27%) vs. Port – we know Roberts has a fantasy game, but things can get a little cold on his wing some games. However, with Port essentially in palliative care until seasons end, a seagull like Roberts could score in a soft matchup like this.

Zac Guthrie (13%) vs, Essendon – you know he’s one of my favourite defensive streams, and in a game where the kill could be quick, Guthrie is the type to benefit from some clock-killing chippy chippy stuff.

Billy Wilson (13%) vs. St Kilda – Nic Newman’s absence is nice here, as is the matchup. Wilson has demonstrated the chops this season, and he’s certainly in my blackbook for 2027.

MIDFIELDERS

Dan Curtin (~18%) vs. Richmond – Curtin features in consecutive Stream Teams, but that comes with good reason; playing Essendon and Richmond back to back. The guy has the chops, and again against Richmond, he’s well worth a punt.

Angus Sheldrick (~17%) vs. Port – now you’ll have to check Thursday teams to see if he’s been brought back into the squad, but I’m liking his chances with Rowbottom going down. I like the matchup here as well, despite some disappointing scores from GWS last week against the Power.

Cooper Lord (14%) vs. St Kilda – he’s playing an outside role for the Blues right now, and has a nice matchup in the Saints. His last 2 weeks have been impressive, scoring 86 and 98, so that brings some confidence to this tip.

Matt Johnson (12%) vs. Melbourne – he features for a third consecutive week, but his numbers have been good and this week he has an okay matchup for mids. Additionally, he plays early enough on the Saturday to loop from the bench.

RUCK

Marc Pittonet (~30%) vs. St. Kilda – it looks like TDK will miss this week, and when Marshall is solo rucking, the Saints become an okay team to target for rucks. He won’t shoot lights out, but he’s a better option than most rucks out there on waivers.

FORWARDS

Dan McStay (~2%) vs. West Coast – he’s scored a 90 and a 118 in his last 2 games, and has what seems to be a cinch of a matchup this week. He’s a risky one, but the reward potential is there.

Jye Clark (10%) vs. Essendon – with a 98 and 82 in 2 of his last 3 showings, Clark has demonstrated some chops in the Cats’ defensive line. He appears to be scooping up some of the points left by Max Holmes. Obviously, the matchup is a key factor in this tip too, and as a forward, Clark is my Shoe-in of the week. 

Jake Soligo (28%) vs. Richmond – the matchup is tasty, but last week’s low TOG% isn’t. He still scored an 87 in under 70% game time. If Peatling and Berry are still out, I like this pick a lot. Soligo had 61% of the CBAs last week, so there should be access to points on the inside.
