Saints v Pies – Opening Round Cheat Code

How did Roy see the final game of Opening Round?

Calvin’s look at some of the Fantasy relevant names from St Kilda v Collingwood and whether we should include them in our Fantasy teams… (feel free to add your takes in the comments).

We will have plenty of pre-season content, including team reveals this week … and then we get into the regular stuff: Rollin’ 22 and Trade Talk, Captains, bonus podcasts, live streams and more.

Jack Sinclair (DEF, $1,057,000)

SCORE: 122 (88% TOG)
PRICED AT: 100.8

No longer the Robin across half back, he is Batman again and it was reflected in the amount of ball he accumulated in an attempt to generate drive out of defense. He collected 35 disposals and scored a team high 122. In for a massive year.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (DEF, $1,163,000)

SCORE: 62 (79% TOG)
PRICED AT: 110.9

It took a summer of reflection before a team realized it was probably a good idea to give Naz an opponent. It was a shock to the system for the star Saint who wasn’t able to accumulate any easy ball, gathering just 19 disposals for a score of 73. Make sure you don’t start with him.

Sam Flanders (FWD, $716,000)

SCORE: 100 (87% TOG)
PRICED AT: 68.3

Overcame a slow start to get the job done with a nice 100 from 28 disposals. He had an impressive 12 handball receives which is what we want to see while spending plenty of time in the middle with 75% of the CBAs. Nothing has changed, lock.

Mattaes Phippipou (FWD, $610,000)

SCORE: 66 (76% TOG)
PRICED AT: 58.2

The role was there with 42% of the CBAs but he struggled to get his hands on the easy ball going around. He finished the game with 18 disposals and four tackles but I was disappointed with his mark tally of just one, especially when there were plenty out there. Look, he remains in my team at this stage but 66 is a rookie score.

Jack Carroll (MID, $332,000)

SCORE: 78 (71% TOG)
PRICED AT: 31.6

Was in the mix for a starting spot and has done his chances no harm after collecting 16 disposals and taking eight marks. His job security is good and a score like that makes you think ‘Guns and Rookies’ and fielding him in the midfield over the likes of Pou forward and using the cash elsewhere.

Josh Daicos (DEF, $988,000)

SCORE: 141 (89% TOG)
PRICED AT: 94.2

Had it on a string with 35 disposals playing across half back. The Saints let the Pie defenders do what they like, but there may also be a shift in the Pies game style back there. If so, he is a bargain with a ridiculously low break even. Certainly, one to watch.

Nick Daicos (MID, $1,134,000)

SCORE: 136 (85% TOG)
PRICED AT: 108.1

Oh boy… Made a mockery of any attempts the Saints made to slow him and collected 41 disposals while doing so. He had 23 handball receives, working his arse off to get the ball as many times as he could and to be honest, why the hell are we starting without him… Will be a hard watch if we don’t! Absolute Piggery tendencies.

Darcy Cameron (RUC, $1,070,000)

SCORE: 112 (87% TOG)
PRICED AT: 102

Early thoughts about DC being fine with the new ruck rules look spot on. He didn’t struggle with 19 disposals, 20 hit outs, six tackles and five marks. If you are after a set and forget, he deserves a mention.

Dan Houston (DEF, $701,000)

SCORE: 120 (81% TOG)
PRICED AT: 66.8

Look, the Saints had zero forward defensive pressure, I repeat zero, but Houston remembered how to football somewhat, collecting 28 disposals and taking 11 marks. Although the going was easy, they did look to use him a lot more than last year, especially in the first half where he racked up with 80+ points. You couldn’t do it, but damn, the BE will be low!

Why couldn’t we do Houston? Had a bad year last year but is a 90+ player before that.
Cheap for wat he can do and game plan seems to have changed. Pretty tempting

Only queries I have in choosing him are the number of early bye players in my team and is it better to go straight to Jaicos. If he fits your structure and you can manage the number of early bye players in your team, he is a genuine option. The Pies have said they want it to go through him more often.

If Houston can go back to 90+ he’s 30 unders or so and a lot cheaper. Jaicos is the safer option agreed but.
Is he a better option the Coleman and Windsor if he’s back to his old ways?

I think I am going to start him at D3. In short he has to be real option. I think we need to remember that a bird in the hand is good as 2 in the bush- Colby and others as much as we think they could go well could easily have a sub BE first round score when you know Houston has well outperformed his. I’m keeping some spare cash to upgrade Houston if needed post Rd 1 but hoping he has a good year and is a keeper for a while.

Do we have access to the breakevens already? The Traders podcast mentioned quite a few from Round 0 and they were hugely negative!!
