Join me and special guest DT Lemon in the next head to head battle between midfielders looking to gain DPP in Karl Amon and Nic Martin. We discuss each player in depth and talk about their pros and cons, give our verdict on who we would pick out of the two players, and if we are keen on starting either player in our side.
Karl Amon
Karl Amon had a big finish to 2023 playing off half back, where he averaged 112.7 in his final 6 games, including two scores over 120 (138, 121). Heading into 2024, there are a fair few players in the $700k-$800k price bracket that coaches are looking at, but Amon has the potential bonus of adding defender DPP if he maintains the half back role. A watch in the upcoming community series game, but with injuries mounting at Hawthorn and if he has that half back role, he will be a tempting starting selection for a lot of coaches heading into the season.
Nic Martin
Another player that looks like playing off half back in 2024 is Nic Martin, and we got a glimpse of that on the weekend where he had 29 disposals for 93 points. As we know, the wing position is like the new graveyard shift and is a lot tougher to score out there (unless you are Errol Gulden), but Nic Martin was still able to average 85.2 last season, which included 8 tons. Playing off half back, his scoring will only increase, and like Amon, the advantage he has over the other guys in th $700k-$800k price bracket, he could end up being one of the top scorers in the defensive line if he gains DPP.
