Join me and special guest Holmsey from The PODPOD in the next head to head battle between premium defenders Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Hayden Young. We discuss each player in depth and talk about their pros and cons, give our verdict on who we would pick out of the two players, and if we are keen on starting either player in our side.
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
Nasiah had a big breakout in his 2nd season of AFL, going from 62.7 average from 16 games in 2022 all the way up to 91.3 last season, and increase of almost 30 points. He also had the best ever average recorded by a player in their 2nd season without a CBA, which is very impressive. With Jack Sinclair always the guy in the backline that will receive opposition attention, this leaves Nasiah to be free and get as much of the pill as he can. The question is can he now breakout even further towards that top 6 defender range, which would be closer to a 100 point average. He did average 97.8 from Rounds 10-20 but hopefully translates that to a full season.
Hayden Young
One of the most popular picks in our defensive line this pre season, and for good reason as well as he has been training as a full time mid this preseason. We saw him move to a midfield role in the back end of last season, with scores of 83, 119, 102, 91 and 94, for an average of 97.8, but averaged 101.5 when played at least 70% CBA’s, and all scores over 90. If we get the eye test confirmation of him playing midfield in the practice games, he will be locked in coaches sides.
