Join me and special guest Vams (fantasynut_afl) in the next head to head battle between premium ruckmen Tim English and Rowan Marshall. We discuss each player in depth and talk about their pros and cons, give our verdict on who we would pick out of the two players, and if we are keen on starting either player in our side.
Tim English
The highest averaging player last season means Tim English is the most expensive player in the game. After averaging 118.7 from 23 games last season, most would look at that and him being a ruck, would be locked in to most peoples side. However, this season we have Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy and Tristan Xerri all having considerable value on their starting price. This makes it a bit trickier to start English, but if you do start him, you are going to get exactly what you pay for, and a captain option every week.
Rowan Marshall
Very similar to English, Rowan Marshall had a massive 2023 season, averaging 115.8 from 23 games. There were however a couple of games where he was subbed out early either due to a knock or managed in a game that was already over early in the last quarter. Does this mean he presents a small amount of value heading into 2024? Potentially, but as mentioned before, Gawn, Grundy and Xerri all have more upside. Just comes down to if you want to pay up for Marshall or save the cash for one of those other guys and use that money elsewhere.
