Friday Fantasy Fill Up – Rd. 15

Grab a knock off froth and get set for round 15.

Welcome to a Friday arvo column that hopefully helps you get set for the weekend ahead. I’ll be looking at the key points/questions that have popped up during the week with some quick fire opinions, plus a look at how the mighty Warne Dawgs are looking ahead of the coming round.

Don’t miss:

Thursday night footy

Geelong started their run of 5 of 7 games at GMHBA Stadium and we saw Tom Stewart (100) get his ton, just… but more impressively, Mitch Duncan (120) priced at $701k do his thing. Six marks, eight tackles and a goal helped his stat line with the very nice kick-to-handball ratio.

Christian Petracca (125) was the only Dee to crack the ton. He had 33 disposals.

The Cats will be without Jeremy Cameron (-3) with concussion. He could be one to watch as a F6 option considering his score – and the 32 last week – should put his price into the mid-$600ks. Considering he was averaging 95.5 pre-bye, he may end up as a value play for cash strapped coaches like me.

Round 15 trading (and beyond)

Alrighty… we’ve made it. The last friggen bye round!

Let’s bring in players who have had their bye, for those who have it this week. Simple, yes, but this week is tougher. Rookies and mid-pricers go first. Even though he’s coming off a ton, Finn Callaghan should be upgraded to a premium. Samson Ryan on your bench can be cashed out. Jack Ziebell is the pick of the ‘premiums’ to move on… and I don’t blame anyone wanting to ditch Sam Walsh. I’m holding Harry Sheezel, but he could go as well – especially if it’s getting you a big dog.

Who are you getting in? Ideally, it’s who you believe will be a top of the line player for their position. We’ll be chatting about our Rollin’ 22 players on Monday’s podcast, but you should be able to pick them yourselves. I am always someone, though, who likes to consider a scoring range. That is, a top 6 forward could be a top 10 or so due to that bottom bracket being close to each other. Midfielders are traditionally the same – this year I feel like there are a heap of players who could be around that 7-12 mark. More about that on Monday.

But put simply, taking where they’re at and price into account… I’d be after Jordan Dawson and Jack Sinclair down back to start with, Rory Laird, Brad Crouch, Noah Anderson, Tom Mitchell, Lachie Neale and Zach Merrett (who I have at the bottom just because of price and their run gets harder from here) in the midfield, while in the forward-line, it’s only Josh Dunkley and Errol Gulden who you would be launching into this week.

That said, I think some coaches may hunt some value. Whether that is more about not having to sideways trade players and dumping the more rookie-type or it could be about cashing up. There are a few options worth considering. My rankings for value players to grab…

  1. Darcy Cameron – Role is secure. DPP may even help this week field an extra player. I like that flex for the future just in case a ruck goes down.
  2. Ben Keays – He could be the No.1 guy here, but I just worry about what might happen. I’m soft. I like DC ahead because I feel like he’s more predictable. That said, going Keays could be a masterstroke as he could score a heap more than DC given the role.
  3. Elliot Yeo – I’m totally ok with going with Yeo, but know the risks. Get through a month and it’s a big win if he continues at the 90+ scoring rate. It puts him in that top 10 defenders. He could be a keeper.
  4. Jarman Impey – SicDawg’s suspension puts him on the radar as a bloke who has punched out 97, 118 and 124 in his last three and is priced at under $700k. Ride him for three weeks for good scores and cash gen.

Marcus Windhager is an interesting one to add to this conversation. For his price, you could argue that he’s a better pick than the guys listed above. It is certainly a play if you were sideways trading George Wardlaw to him or whatever other rookie move could do it. Kai Lohmann and Elijah Hewett are my next favourite options. Ryan Maric if you’re desperate. That is assuming you already have Angus Sheldrick … I’m not going to talk you out of Harvey Harrison, but the Pies will have some guys back in coming weeks. He’s safe for R15 – which could be all you need him for.
