Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 5

Argggg…. who have you got the VC and C on this week? Check out Calvin’s suggestions.

#1 – Clayton Oliver v ESS @ Adelaide Oval
SATURDAY 4:10pm

It hurts me to write about him every week as a non-owner.  I wish I had Oliver and not Laird.

Oliver scored a nice 129 last week and has now averaged 128 for the season. He had 117 on the Bombers last year and lately they have been giving up points and Green (111), Kelly (106), Crouch (122), Wood (118) and Ross (117) found this to be the case recently.

A small flag here would be a potential tag and the only player the Bombers have that would be capable would be the mighty Setterfield. Can’t see it happening… but I can see another nice score on the way.

#2 – Tim English v PTA @ Adelaide Oval
SATURDAY 7:50pm

No. 2 on the list is very fitting for the big man who has averaged 122 this year. He scored 145 last week, his first score over 120 which is what has kept him out of my top few.

He’s up against Lycett and this year… Ladhams 84, O’Brien 83, Cameron 109 and McInerney 80 have played him. They have all scored well enough to make you think that English, with the form he is on, should dominated him and score another 120+.

#3 – Andrew Brayshaw v GCS @ Norwood Oval
FRIDAY 5:10pm

I’m big on Brayshaw this week after watching him play against the Crows. Hungry for possessions and even hungrier for those little link-up +6s… I loved it. He only took two, but not only did they miss the target three/four times, they ignored him the others (this should change). Coming off 108, Brayshaw should be 120 here against a team that gave the Saints 7×100+ scores last week with Crouch going 125.

#4 – Zach Merrett v MELB @ Adelaide Oval
SATURDAY 4:10pm

Melbourne give up plenty of points to opposition MIDs and even in a side that got smashed, Tim Kelly (142) dominated and I’m calling for Merrett to do the same. He didn’t play in his game last year but did have 153 and 144 (adjusted in his last two against them. He has now had four scores between 100-109 this year and will break that this week.

#5 – Touk Miller v FREM @ Norwood Oval
FRIDAY 8:10pm

Previous scores of 128 and 130 against the Dockers is certainly eye-catching. His form has been solid enough as well with 120, 88, 102 and 108 this year. He is warming up and is a super VC option on Friday if you are an owner.

#6 – Rowan Marshall v COLL @ Adelaide Oval
SUNDAY 4:50pm

What’s this subbed out rubbish? Ross the Toss at it again… but can it actually happen again?

Rowan finished the day on 107 but it could have been much more. Here he plays…. McStay/Johnson (unless they bought in someone else, won’t matter) in a game he should dominated. Oscar McInerney scored 95 against them last week and last year against the Pies he scored 108 but that was against Grundy.

FLAG – I’m happy with Marshall in this group as I predict the game to be close and Marshall will not be subbed. High risk, high reward with this though. Mayabe playing safe with him this week is the right thing to do.

OTHERS TO CONSIDER:

RORY LAIRD … I know… but I really think he’ll bounce back here. A VC option only. 100% a VC option only. Could be 85 to 140 here.

JACK MACRAE … previous scores of 110, 123, 119, 104, 133, 135 and 112 against the Power… who are very tough for MIDs.

CALEB SERONG … 126 on the Suns last year and averaging 116 in his last three.

JEZZA CAMERON – Could be 10+ goals and 200pts here, but man… only for the brave, but with that said… his form is elite.

SEAN DARCY … check team selections and if Witts didn’t get named, brace yourself for a Darcy domination.

JOSH DUNKLEY – Lots of rain is on the cards and word on the street is that this game will be a ‘slop-fest’…. surely a few extra tackles for the guy who only had one last week.
