Calvin's Captains

Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 21

A top-6 this week… who will be your VC and C?

Welcome back to another edition of Calvin’s Captains. It’s round 21, we are almost there but there is still work to be done. Last week we saw the highest score for the year with Nasiah hitting 182. Will we see the same again this week?

On a whole captains were pretty good last week so fingers crossed we can do it again.

FORM v OPPONENT

This week we are looking going to look at a top-6? Why? We’ll… because I want to included Sheezel in there as well, because this week my top-3 is very clear cut… whereas Dawson, Nasiah andSheezel will take some splitting, so you can decide for yourself.

Form (F) v Opponent (O) is always a huge issue when it comes to picking a captain. Players like Dawson (great O, poor F), Sheezel (great F, poor O), Nasiah (great F, poor O, and possible tag) – will be a huge issue and a topic of debate for captain picking this week.

My decsion this week has been nased on – who could you roll with as the C… going all in? Choosing someone with a tag or poor match-up just seems way too risky for my liking.

Hopefully… we get a great VC score from Thursday/Friday night and then we won’t have to make what is a very tricky decision.

I’ve decided to get Brad Hill and put the VC on him, because you know when the next injury hits, he at least can cover every position. lol

What about Luke Jackson vs the Dogs? A lot of the mid options are tag risks, and he might kick a few.

Dear Traders, I assume you have a high degree of influence on how the AFL fantasy game is structured each year.
As you know this year has been beyond ridiculous for injuries, managed and late outs. I think this should be considered a new norm rather than aberration. Without specifically looking I suspect I have had less than 4-5 rounds for the year where I have not had 1 or more significant forced trades and many rounds where I have not really been able to trade out of problems for a round. The year has been very frustrating for many from round to round as well as for the current finals. Even the mid bye rounds with 3 trades and 18 players was unusually difficult due to the rate of premium outs.

I would ask you with respect to consider a large think tank on how the game can be structured to match and compensate for the modern injury, Illness and managed frequency as well as late round late outs. Whilst I realize each coach should have bench options and emergencies, these players in a team have not been immune to outs also and you may not be able to refresh your bench if you have to replace premiums every week.

Possible solutions not in any order could include:

  1. Simply increasing the trades per each round.
  2. Have an allocation of emergency trades that you could strategically decide to use when you deem fit or when you have a “break glass multiple outs” round.
  3. Consider an option where if there is a late out of an on field player you can trade this player out over and above your normal trades if you wish.
  4. Have a system where you are allowed to trade out all your players that are listed as injured over and above your normal trades. I note that the managed outs are often given injury status and I note that some “managed” players don’t necessarily come back in the next round. (Could be all year Vs just when finals are on)

Please considers and let’s hope that not too many coaches have been lost to the never play again list -Thankyou.

You just want it easier. Injuries are part of the game. I play FPL and we only know the lineups after lockout.
