Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 21

Calvin’s top 5 averaged 137 last week – the great man is BACK!

Welcome back you bloody awesome legends to another edition of Calvin’s Captains.

I’M BACK!

My top 5 captains last week averaged a massive 137 and as the other GOAT once said: “I’M BACK!” The plan this week will be the same as round 20. Can you score? Can you screw us over? If the answers are YES and NO, then you’re in! Based on this, here are my top-10 best picks for the round ahead. Be sure to check the fixture as changes will most likely occur. Good luck!

CALVIN’S TOP-10 CAPTAINS

#1 – Jack Steele v Sydney

Saturday night @ Marvel Stadium

  • Averages 139 in his last three and is coming off a massive 162
  • Played the Swans in round 12 – scored 137
  • Steele has now hit 130+ in six of his last eight games.

FLAG: Sydney are third hardest for midfielders to score against this year.

#2 – Touk Miller v Carlton

Saturday 1:45pm @ Marvel Stadium

  • 135 last week, and carries a lowest score of only 110 in his last nine games.
  • Loves playing the Blues with previous scores of 140, 93, 143 and 149.

FLAG: No flags here

#3 – Tom Mitchell v Collingwood

Sunday 2:10pm @ Utas Stadium

  • #3 based on form averaging 128 in his last three
  • Carries a low of 108 in his last eight
  • Collingwood are easily his favourite team with previous scores of 128 (this year) and 156, 135, 177, 132 and 138 before that.

FLAG: West Coast only managed 1×100+ score against the Pies last week

#4 – Christian Petracca v West Coast

Monday night @ Optus Stadium

  • Scored 113 against the Eagles this year
  • 136 and 126 in his last two games
  • Averaging 126 in his last six
  • Eagles #2 easiest for midfielders to score against in the last five weeks

FLAG: Prefers the MCG, hasn’t hit 120 outside of Melbourne this year

#5 – Jarryd Lyons v Fremantle

Sunday arvo @ Optus Stadium

  • 153 last week
  • #2 based on form averaging 131 in his last three
  • 121 against the Dockers earlier this year
  • Has a ceiling with the best in the game

FLAG: No flag here.

#6 – Aaron Hall v Richmond

Saturday 4:35pm @ the MCG

  • Averaging 123 in his last three
  • Luke Ryan (similar player to Hall) scored 107 last week in a low scoring game against the Tigers

FLAG: Monitor the weather, wet conditions won’t suit his style

#7 – Taylor Adams v Hawthorn

Sunday  2:10pm @ Utas Stadium

  • Coming off 115
  • Had 113 on the Hawks last year
  • Hawthorn are #1 easy for midfielders this year and #3 easiest in the last five
  • Lions last week went off against the Hawks with Lyons 153, Zorko 132, Rich 115 ad McCluggage 109 all dominating

FLAG: First game in Launceston, how will he handle the high of 14 degrees and the 80% chance of showers

#8 – Sam Walsh v Gold Coast

Saturday 1:45pm @ Marvel Stadium

  • Suns #2 easiest for midfielders to score against.
  • Melbourne had 4×105+ scores on the Suns last week

FLAG: Form has been down with 108 and 72 in his last two. Swallow tried to tag Oliver (110) last week and will probably run with Walsh here.

#9 – Brayden Fiorini v Carlton

Saturday 1:45pm @ Marvel Stadium

  • Averaging 123 in his last three games
  • Coming off 119

FLAG: No flag for this ball magnet

#10 – Jordan De Goey v Hawthorn

Sunday 2:10pm @ Utas Stadium

  • 125 last week
  • Averaging 113 in his last three
  • Has hit 120+ in three of his last five
  • Brisbane went big on the Hawks last week and the Pies are having so much of the ball at the moment, scoring 9×100+ last week with 7 players taking 10+ marks.

FLAG: Poor weather in Tassie could be his only concern

WHY NOT THESE BLOKES?

Jack Macrae – One mark last week and scored 81. 1×100+ in his last five. No thanks.

Clayton Oliver – Never scored over 120 against the Eagles from his six games. But still… he should be great.

Brodie Grundy – 129 last week, but only 66 on the Hawks last year and they are his career-worst team to play with a highest score of 100 in his last four against them.

Rory Laird – Port are hard, and only one midfielder scored over 85 against them last week.

Cameron Guthrie – The Giants are the only team he has never hit 100+ against, he has played them nine times.

Ollie Wines – Should be fine, but only had 70 on the Crows earlier this year – season low.

Darcy Parish – 97 and 69 in his last two, plays the #1 hardest team this year.

Zach Merrett – 142 last week, but the Dogs are much tougher.

Marcus Bontempelli – 75 last week, and only 1×120+ in his last five.

Josh Kelly – Geelong #2 hardest this year, no thanks.

Tim Taranto – He’s a forward…trade, don’t captain!

Callum Mills – 152 last week was impressive, scored 96 on the Saints last year

Andrew Brayshaw – Wingard (147), O’Meara (146) and Mitch ell (128) dominated the Lions last week, but Brayshaw has never hit 100 against the Lions in his career four games.

Max Gawn – 91 last year v WCE and his highest against them is 125 from nine games. Grundy was great last week against Nic Nat and Max should be as well.

Lachie Neale – Surely bounces back, but you’d be gutsy.
