Calvin's Captains

Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 12

His team is all but done and busted, but Calvin is still hard at work finding you a super captain this week.

Welcome back you bloody legends.

An injury to my #1 captain option last week broke my heart. Whitfield’s 74 from 68% game time wasn’t what I was after but with that said, Grundy would have still out scored him anyway as my #2 pick.

With the bye rounds knocking, I like to mix things up a little and here are my top 10 players from the week, broken down nicely for you. Enjoy and good luck legends.

#1 – Josh Kelly v Adelaide @ AO

Adelaide give up the second most points to opposition midfielders, only second to the Suns in the last four weeks. In that time, Oliver (108) was solid last week against them in Darwin and before that Redden (135), Shuey (134), Yeo (130) and Gaff (120) all cash in as well. Before that, Neale (119) and Zorko (118) found a bit, and then back in round 8 our Rocky (149) also went to town.

Kelly has been in smoking form scoring 140, 135 and 120 in his last three games and last year when he played the Crows he had 67, before being knocked-out after just 53% game time.

Over the last five weeks, the top three scoring midfielders against the Crows, have all been 22 points better than their average at the time.

#2 –Dayne Zorko v Carlton @ MRVL

With 10×100+ scores from his last 13 games at Marvel, Zorko only meets the Blues here, a team that gave Essendon 8×100+ scores last week. He only had 80 on the Hawks last week but an impressive 114, 119 and 125 on Carlton in his last three. Huge roughie to be massive!

#3 – Adam Treloar v Melbourne @ MCG

His 74 last week was his first score under 105 since round four. He had 110 against the Dees last year and players have been scoring well against them in recent weeks… such as Brad Crouch (126), Josh Kelly (135), Taranto (130), Yeo (140), Sheed (133) and Gaff (126).

#4 – Lachie Neale v Carlton @ MRVL

Neale only has 1×100+ score in his last five games this year but only plays the Blues, a team he has scored 99, 127, 106 and 130 on in his last four. Big bounce back week coming here.

#5 – Stephen Coniglio v Adelaide @ AO

192 last week was 123 points better than what he scored the round before. So let’s assume that Cogs is back. The Crows are his ‘poor luck team’ as when he played them last year, he got inured on both occasions. But still, they’re easy to score on, and he should be right to continue on after that amazing performance on the weekend.

#6 – Bachar Houli v Geelong @ MCG

Racked #2 on form at the moment averaging 133 in his last three after 137 last weekend. Pumped out 121 and 75 on the Cats last year and loves playing at the MCG. Last week against Geelong, Jake Lloyd (similar player to Houli) had a nice 129, from 13 marks.

#7 – Clayton Oliver v Collingwood @ AO

Scored 108 last week to be the highest scoring Demon, and had 135 last year against Collingwood. No one from the Pies are tagging at the moment which is always great news for this fella.

#8 – Tim Taranto v Adelaide @ AO

Prefers to play at home, but he still should be great like the rest of his team mates. Taranto scored 91 and 87 against Adelaide last year and must be forgiven for his poor score of 75 last week, even though everyone else was cashing in.

#9 – Brayden Fiorini v Kangaroos @ MET

This will keep his owners happy – a mention in CCs. He is a jet averaging 119 in his last three games despite 93 last week. He returns home here to a team he scored 92 and 112 on last year.

#10 – Shaun Higgins v Gold Coast @ MET

He is in my top 10 to dominate the Suns and like many before him, he will. With that said, he hasn’t scored over 100 against them in his last three games, but that changes this week. Pickings are slim this week with the byes.

After a request from Draft coaches who like to ‘loop hole’ captains each week, here are the other options, in order as they play.

Patrick Dangerfield v Richmond @ the MCG –128 and 75 last year against the Tigers and could be huge here, considering it’s Friday night football and everyone will be watching.

Tim Kelly v Richmond @ the MCG – 0x120+ scores for opposition midfielders against Richmond since round 6 is concerning. Pass.

Dusty Martin v Geelong @ the MCG – Over the last four weeks, Geelong are ranked as the #2 hardest for midfielders to score against. Dusty had 114 and 76 against them last year.

Patrick Cripps v Brisbane @ Marvel– Berry and Robbo have tagged him before and after his tagged 63 last week, they will most likely put attention into the bull again. Has 0x100+ in his last 5 games against the Brisbane. Not ideal for his owners.

Rory Sloane v GWS @ Adelaide Oval – Hammy injury to 30 last week hurt his owners and if he sits, who will De Boer tag? Matt, Brad and even Laird might be on his radar. Avoid them all just to be safe.

Brad Crouch v GWS @ Adelaide Oval – Averaging 125 without his brother and might cop some attention this week if Sloane misses. Scored 124 on the Giants last year. How good has he been!

Andrew Gaff v Sydney @ the SCG – 0x100+ scores in his last three games against the Swans as they put attention into him. A career-high 103 is his best score against them over a career 9 games, which makes them one of his worst teams, and adding to this is that he plays them away. Watch out for Ryan Clark and even Hewett this week who has been doing job well in recent rounds.

Elliot Yeo v Sydney @ the SCG – An 80 last week reminded us exactly what the old Yo-Yo can do.

Luke Parker v West Coast @ the SCG – averaging 118 in his last three this year, Luke is starting to step up.

Scott Pendlebury v Melbourne @ the MCG – Maybe a tag from Harmes coming… but maybe not. Scored 89 on Melbourne last year.

Brodie Grundy v Melbourne @ the MCG – Still sits as the #1 man on form but no one has scored over 100 against Max this year. In fact, rucks have only averaged 57 against him making him the #1 hardest. Grundy did score 101 and 100 on him in his last two as he shared the ruck duties with Cox, but I’ll be avoiding him this week in what will be an epic battle.

Max Gawn v Collingwood @ the MCG – Just like above, no one has scored 100+ against Grundy this year either. Bellchambers was close with 99 but it’s just too risky and Max only managed 82 and 70 against Grundy in their last two battles. I know you gotta risk it to get the biscuit, but I’ll go hungry on this one and just be an interested spectator instead of a nervous pirate.

Who will be your Fantasy captain this week?

If it was earlier in the season when Richmond were allowing opposition midfielders to run around unimpeded, then I would go Duncan, but they have stepped up. Geelong will win, and Duncan will rake us in a solid 110, but I don’t think he will beat Jelly this week.

Thanks Calvin. Your advice makes sense, so I have amended my captain to Jelly. I was thinking Ziebell, but you knocked some sense into me. Ziebell can be very … Ziebell-like, so I can’t trust him, even against the Suns.

Need a Round 13 bye premo and think Treloar seems the safest to bring in given Beams out, but might flip a coin over him or Cogs. Wanted to bring in Fiorini as i think he’ll be massive but unfortunately just doesn’t work for bye structure.

Cogs is a Bye 14 player Bort. your options are Neale, Zorko, Trel, Adams, Grundy, Duncan, Tkelly, Stuart, Dange, r, Oliver, Gawn, Lloyd, Parker, Gaff, Yeo, Sheed.

Also the 3 teams with the best SOS for the run home are WC, Coll, Carl. each with 7 of the next 11 against DT favourable opposition.

It’s a big week for: Bryce Gibbs
The Crows midfielder could get a tagging role for a second straight week, this time running with Giants star Stephen Coniglio. Gibbs did a great negating role on Clayton Oliver in the second half of last week’s comeback win against Melbourne.

Gday pendles. I read the article too this morning and he does present great value and is enjoying the freedom in the guts, could make some handy cash but ask yourself this. Will he still be putting up those numbers when Shiel and stringer (who is so overrated , he’s only so good in BT’s eyes) return.
