Team Sheets – Rd. 9

All the news, rumours, and team sheets for round 9!

It’s Thursday!!

It was business as usual for most in round 8, unless you were fielding Tom Atkins and Jack Ross.  A lot of the rookies from round 1 are still playing which is unfortunate, but what I am loving is that there hasn’t been a relieving second wave introduced yet.  Be very careful who you downgrade to because you’ll most likely be calling on them in a few weeks during the byes (if they’re still playing…).

Round 9 kicks off 20:10 AEST Friday night so have all your trades locked in by then!  The Traders will be reacting LIVE today from 18:15 AEST on the Official AFL Fantasy Facebook page to the team announcements, so think of this article as your text-based companion guide.

As always, this post will be updated as more information comes in, so if you’ve seen some news that I’ve missed feel free to tweet it at me and I’ll follow it up.

Matt Crouch is officially out.

Geelong have pulled a sneaky on us! Tom Atkins out, Charlie Constable in. I’m as shocked as you are…

West Coast vs Melbourne

Willie Rioli will play his first game in 2019.  Tom Hickey hasn’t recovered in time so Nathan Vardy is rucking solo. Jake Waterman has been omitted after one game in 2019.

Melbourne have unleashed the ‘Ginger Ninja’, Oskar Baker (170k MID)! Jake Melksham, Michael Hibberd, Jordan Lewis, and Declan Keilty (poor lad) are out.  Tim Smith, Alex Neal-Bullen, and Harrison Petty (239k DEF) are the other ins.

Collingwood vs St. Kilda

Dayne Beams and Travis Varcoe come in for the Pies, Jamie Elliot is injured, and Rupert Wills is omitted.

St. Kilda unleash ‘speed machine’ Robbie Young (170k FWD).  Jonathon Marsh is the other inclusion.  Jimmy Webster and Ben Long are out.

Brisbane vs Adelaide

Zac Bailey will miss 6 weeks with a hamstring, he’s replaced by debutant Mitchell Hinge (170K DEF).  Ryan Lester and Tom Cutler have been omitted for Josh Walker and Rhys Mathieson.

Matt Crouch has been named but he’s still 50/50 to play.  Riley Knight has been omitted for Chayce Jones, Bryce Gibbs is an emergency…

Geelong vs Western Bulldogs

Sam Menegola is having knee surgery and Charlie Constable has been omitted…for some reason.  Joel Selwood is in and so is…DARCY FORT (170k RUC)!  Ohh but he’s the same bye as Grundy and Gawn…oh well, still a cash cow.

No changes for the Bulldogs which means Tim English misses again.

Essendon vs Fremantle

Worsfold finally swings the axe!  Devon Smith and Orazio Fantasia are out injured, Zac Clarke, Brayden Ham, and David Myers have been omitted.  Joe Daniher comes back into the side after being rested, he’s joined by Mark Baguley, Josh Begley, Kyle Langford, and Ben McNiece.  Geez Jayden Laverde can only make second emergency, might be time to find a new team, kid.

Connor Blakely makes his 2019 debut!  Taylin Duman also comes in, the outs are Travis Colyer and Ryan Nyhuis.

North Melbourne vs Sydney

Scott Thompson, Luke McDonald and Marley Williams all comes in.  Sam Durdin is suspended, Sam Wright is injured, and Curtis Taylor is omitted.

Lance Franklin misses another week with his hamstring complaint.  Kieren Jack is out injured, in comes James Rowbottom (254k MID).

Port Adelaide vs Gold Coast

Port Adelaide have made three omissions, none of them Willem Drew…yet.  Todd Marshall, Aidyn Johnson, and Ryan Burton are out.  Brad Ebert misses his second consecutive game with concussion.  Joe Atley (227k MID) and Joel Garner (170k FWD) are on the extended bench, Garner making his debut and Atley playing his first game since 2017.  Zak Butters is also back along with Billy Frampton (283k RUC), Riley Bonner, Sam Mayes, and Peter Ladhams (170k RUC).

Brayden Fiorini is back after his knee injury, but Pearce Hanley, Touk Miller and Sean Lemmens are all out injured.  Will Brodie, Sam Day, George Horlin-Smith, Jesse Joyce, Ben King (260k FWD), and Jez McLennan (226k DEF) are the potential inclusions.

Richmond vs Hawthorn

Ruckman Toby Nankervis will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks, and Jack Ross is out indefinitely with an ankle sprain. The most likely suspects to come in are Ivan Soldo (359k RUC) and Riley Collier-Dawkins (232k MID).  They’re joined on the extended bench by Nick Vlaustin, Callum Coleman-Jones (170k RUC/FWD), Daniel Rioli, and Jacob Townsend.

No sign of Isaac Smith or Chad Wingard. Teia Miles, Conor Glass, Kaiden Brand, and Conor Nash are the potential ins, no outs so far.

GWS vs Carlton

I think we’ve saved the best for last, Stephen Coniglio out injured.  Apparently it’s a one-weeker but could easily turn into more you’d think.  Zac Langdon and Matt Buntine are also out injured. Lachie Whitfield and Shane Mumford have been included on the extended bench.  They’re joined by Isaac Cumming, Brett Deledio, Jackson Hately, Lachlan Keeffe, and Harry Perryman.

It looks like Carlton will get one defender back but then lose two more as their back-line woes continue.  Lachie Plowman has a fractured cheekbone and Tom Williamson has some back problems.  Harrison Macreadie, Nic Newman, Lochie O’Brien, Matthew Kennedy, Jarrod Garlett, and Alex Fasolo round out the extended bench.

    Hi guys,
    I have several questions I want to open up to all DT Talkers to comment on;
1.) How does Melksham’s injury impact Brayshaw?
2.) And from here to their bye, how much more will Brayshaw average than Walsh?
3.) What will Brayshaw average to his bye (has 97.3avg YTD)?
4.) What will Walsh avg. to his bye (has a 92avg YYD)?

He playing on the wing which is shit for us coach’s and need to be in the guts. Hopefully the door opens up for him. I think brayshaw bleed more money quicker then Walsh so if u need cash might look at it that way.
Brayshaw round 13 bye and Walsh 14 how does that effect your team for cover to.
      Walsh will avg 88-90
Brayshaw I’m hoping back around 103-107.
Nathan jones has taken his spot.

      1. Will see more cba’s. My only concern is his fixtures are poor. He wasn’t that good before his role change anyway. I can always get him back in later on if he turns a corner. Trade for me…
2.-4 walsh could score well this week if Cripps tagged, I’d trade bray first

Melksham spent the vast majority of his time playing off the half-forward line, if anything the injuries to Lewis and Hibberd are more substantial as Brayshaw could potentially be used across the half-back line to plug those holes (and then Melbourne would bring in a Corey Wagner or Sparrow to fill Brayshaw’s midfield spot).

Brayshaw should be able to bring his scores up a little, if you watched him the last two weeks he was very close to scoring points countless times (just missing a tackle opportunity, taking a kick from a play-on that was then brought back, etc.) but he does look unfit out there at the moment, I think he’ll average 85-95 up to the byes unless he shows big improvements in his fitness or benefits from a role change back to defence (which would help his scoring tbh, will have a lot more definite +6’s). Walsh has a tough matchup this week but then things get a little easier up until his bye, you can tell the physical demands of AFL are starting to get to Walsh though, highly unlikely he hits his b/e this week, probably averages around 70-75.

It all depends on how many centre bounces he attends. Brayshaw has dropped since playing more on the wing. Could be connected to why the Demons are barely winning games. Goodwin needs to keep him in the centre.

Thoughts on Constable holding his spot after the late-in and excellent game for the Cats last week?!

Also the better combo this week:

    Worpel -> Boak + Rozee F5 (Baker F6)
    Rozee -> Dunkley + Worpel F5 (Baker F6)

Same, but Rozee has an extra draw to his bye and great matchup this week. I can’t split the two

Thanks guys. I’m leaning towards the Rozee -> Dunkley trade now due to the BE’s of everyone involved. Dunkley should go up a fair bit in price this week whilst Boak shouldn’t and I can hopefully grab him in a week or two. But I also do like the idea of holding Rozee until the byes!

garner should crack 60 . not sure about job security. young agsint collingwood will be tough . 40 at best with a snag if lucky . baker looks to have a decent scoring potention and job security for hinge is not the best . especially with answorth . could be difficult fitting them both in defense. id go with garner if you are downgrading defenders and probably baker.
im propably going atkins to baker and walsh–> boak . leave ross for next week to maybe garner if he gets another run as he wont drop cash liek atkins will. keep an eye out for toby wooller tho. going at about 80 in the 2’s . should be a decent inclusion soonish

Mid carnage with Ross, Constable (WTF has he done to Scott) and Cognilio out + Drew

Need one of the new rookies for Ross and then turn Constable into a premo (have to keep Brayshaw now as on $74k in bank)

Is Baker or Hinge the better option?
Hinge suits my structure as I feel I am wasting Stack and Scrimshaw both on my Def bench and could move Stack to the middle.

    • Avatar

      May 16, 2019 at 7:21 pm

I don’t know much about Hinge but Baker has been awhile coming for Melbourne and has been dominating the VFL this year.

You’re in a shit position, but take heart, I reckon Drew will make the cut. Scrims is ok on the bench, he’s only a 40-60 player. Stack should be playing for you though.

If you need a DEF rook, wait to see if Garner is in the final side for Port. He’s had solid 60-70 odd in the SANFL all season long, he’s replacing Burton who’s a 3-4 week hamstring, and they give rookies a few games to shine anyway.

Don’t know anything about Baker or Hinge’s output. But Melbourne can be quick to drop rooks. I don’t think Brisbane have named any this year, so hard to judge Baker’s JS with them.

Good excuse to trade out Cogs. Good week for it too if your rooks are still making cash like mine. He wasn’t doing that well and there’s not a lot of decent downgrade options.

    Previous trade was Walsh>Duncan and Worpel>Corbett. Now I’m going Cogs>Duncan and Walsh>Dunkley.

    Feel pretty good about it.

Well cogs out has thrown a spanner on who to go to. Easy trade Parker to young. As I’m not sure when another 170k rook will be around to bank 153k. I can have any mid I want. I’m deciding on Kelly (trust like a used car salesman) or trelly. I’m leaning to trelly but really it’s bloody hard to ignore the run gws are about to embark on. But Kellys a really risky pick injury wise. One of life’s little problems lol

I am not sure what to do this week. I do vs next week the guy dead last in our comp with no chance of winning a game any time soon.

Lloyd, Laird, Smith, Duursma, Scrimshaw, Lockhart / Clark and Young
Cripps, Treloar, Macrae, Coniglio, Brayshaw, B.Crouch, Walsh, Hayes / Aneswerth and Ross
Gawn, Grudny / Fort and Flynn
Boak, Dangerfield, Kelly, Miers, Drew, Gibbons / Balta and Petruccelle

1/ Trade Ross + Petruccelle for Rockcliff + Young with 5k in the bank
2/ Trade Conigilo + Ross for Rockcliff + Atkins or O.Baker or Setterfiled with 189k or 351k or 158kg in bank?
