Team Sheets – Rd. 7

All the news, rumours, and team sheets for round 7!

It’s Thursday!!

I think this could be the week for carnage!  There are a lot of injuries going around and I’m hoping other teams follow Geelong’s lead and start resting youngsters.  I’m absolutely ready for some chaos because there’s been six rounds so far and I’ve scored between 2100 and 2200 every single week, it’s incredibly boring!

No partial lockout, finally!  Round seven doesn’t start until 19:50 AEST Friday night so have all your trades locked in by then!  The Traders will be reacting LIVE today from 18:15 AEST on the Official AFL Fantasy Facebook page to the team announcements, so think of this article as your text-based companion guide.

As always, this post will be updated as more information comes in, so if you’ve seen some news that I’ve missed feel free to tweet it at me and I’ll follow it up.

Collingwood vs Port Adelaide

Mason Cox is out with an ankle injury and Travis Varcoe has been dropped.  They’re replaced by Ben Reid and Jamie Elliot.

Robbie Gray will miss a month with a broken hand, he’s be replaced by Karl Amon.  Steven Motlop is the travelling emergency.

Melbourne vs Hawthorn

Jack Viney will miss two weeks after being the victim of Sydney Stack’s big bump last round.  Sam Weideman has also been omitted, Oscar McDonald and Josh Wagner are in.

James Cousins has been hit with a one-match suspension for a late bump, he’s joined on the sidelines by…Jack Scrimshaw who is “managed”.  Dylan Moore (181k FWD) and Shaun Burgoyne are in.

GWS vs St. Kilda

Phil Davis and Isaac Cumming (204k DEF) are in.  Matt Buntine is omitted and Lachie Whitfield is…out.

Jack Lonie has avoided an ACL injury but is still an out.  Jack Steven is out indefinitely as well as he fights his mental health issues.  Billy Longer and Nathan Brown are omitted.  Rowan Marshall returns after his illness and Jonathon Marsh (276k DEF) will make his debut for St. Kilda.  The other two ins are Darragh Joyce and Hunter Clark.

Brisbane vs Sydney

As per normal for Brisbane this year, no changes.

Lance Franklin misses another week with his hamstring strain, but Coach John Longmire is confident that Franklin will be right for round 8.  Will Hayward, Robbie Fox, and Kieren Jack are in.  Ben Ronke, James Rowbottom, and Ryan Clarke are all omitted.

Western Bulldogs vs Richmond

No changes for the Bulldogs!

David Astbury is out after rolling his ankle, he’s replaced by Connor MenadueShai Bolton replaces Jack Riewoldt who misses 6-8 weeks with a PCL tear.

West Coast vs Gold Coast

One change for the Eagles, Jack Redden returns at the expense of Jarrod Brander.

Injury prone defender Pearce Hanley misses the trip West with a shin injury while Will Brodie and Jack Lukosius have been omitted.  Their replacements are Wil Powell, Anthony Miles, and Aaron Young.

Listen to the AFL Fantasy Podcast with The Traders at Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Google Podcasts.

Carlton vs North Melbourne

Carlton lose two important players down back in Nic Newman and Kade Simpson.  Luckless ruckman Matthew Kreuzer and Mitch McGovern are also out injured.  Coming in are Tom WilliamsonCharlie Curnow, Andrew Phillips, and Liam Stocker. Will Setterfield is first emergency.

Four changes at North for this must-win game. Aaron Hall, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Nathan Hrovat, and Sam Wright are all omitted. In comes Jy Simpkin, Marley Williams, Shaun Higgins, and Taylor Garner.

Geelong vs Essendon

Only one out for Geelong, Charlie Constable has been omitted. Seriously.  He’s replaced by Jordan Clark.

Mitch Brown is out injured and David Myers has been omitted.  Orazio Fantasia and Aaron Francis come in for those two.

Adelaide vs Fremantle

Bryce Gibbs is in as expected, he replaces Myles Poholke.

No changes for Fremantle, Brett Bewley will have to wait until another week.

Hey lads stuck with trades this week
Thoughts appreciated Got 260k in bank

    Trade or hold Whitfield?

    Thinking these 3 options

    1: Whitfield/drew out in Hurn/Stewart and boak
    2: Whitfield/Burgess out in Hurn/Stewart and Hayes
3 Whitfield/Libba out in Hurn/Stewarrt and any Mid thinking JOM or Kelly

Whitfield, Lloyd, Smith, Williams, Duursma, Scrimshaw (Stack, Hore)

Macrae, Cripps, Mcrouch, Brayshaw, Bcrouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable(Hately, Atkins)

    Grundy, O’brian

    Danger, Kelly, Daniel, Worpel,Rozee, Drew(Petruccelle,Burgess)

Would prioritise getting rid of Burgess and Atkins if he’s not named. Could grab Hayes and Larkey.

For any of the options I think Stewart is a better target than Hurn. As far as which is the best option, I think #1 since you’re getting a rookie off field for a gun. Option #2 is close because you want your bench to be making money, but I think there will be other opportunities to offload Burgess soon and he’s not harming you at F8.

I’d keep Whitfield. He may still play this week. If you get rid of him now, you’ll only want him back in a week or so. Work out another way to get Hurn/Stewart.

DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, Smith, Williams, Scrimshaw, Hore (Duursma, Stack)
MID: Macrae, Coniglio, Cripps, Rockliff, B.Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable (Gibbons, Hayes)
    RUCK: Grundy, Witts (Flynn, Fort)
FWD: Dangerfield, Kelly, Worpel, Dusty, Drew, Baker (Burgess, Balta)
    Cash: $39k.

Thoughts on going Burgess (via Gibbons and Stack) to Answerth and Libba to Ross. I know it would be ideal to upgrade Libba but I don’t have the cash to do it. Thoughts on trades? Or other options?

      May 2, 2019 at 5:24 pm

I think those are good trades. Yeah it’s not ideal but you’re still making money and Ross has super solid JS for the next month at least.

Opting for a double upgrade this week. Which option is better?
    a) Houli and J. Kelly
    b) Ellis and Merrett

Or I can go for Houli and Merrett and have some cash for next week.

    3. Libba & Wilkie -> Answerth & Boak (or Laird / Stewart via DPP)
    4. Trade Whitfield

So relevant outs are Whitfield, Newman, Scrimshaw, Cousins and Constable
Ins are really just J Clark, W Setterfield
    plus a few new ones:
    Liam Stocker (Sandringham U18),
    Angus Schumacher (Bendigo U18)
    Darcy Fort (Central District SANFL)
    Sam Draper (South Adelaide SANFL)
    Brett Bewley (Williamstown VFL)

Beyond Fort being some R3 cover for quite a few who knows what about those others ?

Seen a few people suggest it’s his lack of speed in a match-up against Essendon. Hopefully they’re right and it’s a one-week strategic decision.

If that’s the case it’s a bit of a worry. If Scott is going to pick and choose when he plays him it could be soon time to move him on.

Disappointed in the Cats for dropping Constable again, same with Hawks and Scrimshaw. My team:

DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, Hurn, Duursma, Scrimshaw, Hore (Lockhart, Burgess)

MID: Cripps, Cogs, Brayshaw, Rocky, BCrouch, Libba, Walsh, Constable (Bewley, Scott)

    RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Fort, Cameron)

FWD: Danger, Boak, Newnes, Worpel, Drew, Petrucelle (Balta, Ham)

I know I’ve got some concerns on the bench but I’m preparing for a game next week that I really want to win. Right now I’m thinking:

    Whitfield > Houli
    Libba > Jaeger

I know people are saying hold Whitfield, and I will 100% bring Whitfield back in whenever he comes back from injury. I just don’t have the cover for him right now with Scrimshaw out too. I’ll cover Constable with Bewley. Thoughts?

      May 2, 2019 at 8:14 pm

Hold him and libba, get rid of Scrimshaw and Burgess and get Answerth and Young.
Don’t trade a playing player out when you have so many non playing, that’s how you’ve ended up with this issue.

Nah mate, Bewley is only on an extended bench. You will have to trade Scott plus a non playing player from the backline or you will get donuts.

    Whats the best move?

    A) Constable + Scrimshaw >> Boak + Answerth (fall short of Hayes)
    B) Libba + Constable/Drew/Scrim >> Boak + Hayes

    1) Whitfield > Lloyd + Constable > Adams and hold Scrim – Jack Ross on the field
    2) Scrim > Lloyd + Constable > Answerth and hold Whitfield – Stack on the field

    what to do?
constable and scrim out for – Stewart (Gee) and Answerth
COnstable and scrim for – Taranto and answerth
or Constable and scrim form – Ross and answerth

    • Avatar

      May 3, 2019 at 6:11 am

Depends on how secure your bench is really. If you have plenty of cash cows then fire away with option 1, Stewart is a top 6 defender. If you don’t have much cash generation then go option 3 to make some money with Ross.

    1 or 2

    Thoughts fellas?

Scrimshaw > Answerth (Play Stack at D6) & Parker > Ebert

    Petrucelle > Lewis & Parker > Ebert

Also, who would you rather on field: J. Kelly and Petrucelle or Ebert and Ross

I think Scrimshaw still has room to grow, and Answerth is still too risky, so I’d go with option 2.

Just an idea to consider … you only have one premo ruckman. You also have two non-playing rucks on your bench, so no emergency cover.
The top two fantasy rucks are Grundy and Gawn. They both have the same Round 13 Byes (which is a pain in the neck for many of us).
Lycett’s Bye is Rd 12. How about trading him out (let’s face it, he isn’t much chop) and bringing in Witts? He has the Rd 14 Bye. So he’d be on the field for you when Grundy’s out. He’s up there in the next level down from the two big guns and a consistent performer – hasn’t gone below 93 this season. He was great last year, too.
You’d then have the option of offloading Witts for Rd 14 and bringing in Gawn after his Bye, or keeping Witts if that suits your situation.

It’s also a good idea to use the opportunity when you’re not scraping for every dollar to do trades to offload non-playing rookies clogging up your bench (a nightmare in Bye rounds) and not making any money. So consider trading Burgess for either a playing rookie or an upgrade to an underpriced premo?

Witts has had a good run against no ruckmen and thats about to change. Here to the byes he wont even average 90.
