Calvin’s Captains – Rd.23

He’s the best in the business and has been on fire all year. Let the Irish Pirate steer you in the right direction for one more time in 2015.

#1 – Tom Rockliff v Bulldogs @ the GABBA

If you think you’re going to win your Grand Final this week, then play the straight bat with Rocky who has scored 159, 140 and 143 in the last three weeks to be the most inform player in the competition. He has scored 143 and 123 at the GABBA in his last two games and let’s not forget, he averaged 142 there last year.

He scored 102 on the Dogs last year and 139 and 114 before that. It’s a no brainer really… unless your opponent’s team is super unreal and you need to chase something else, hoping that Rocky has a shocker. Something I highly doubt will happen.

#2 – Dan Hannebery v Gold Coast @ the SCG

Hannebery against the Suns will be nasty. He score 133 (42 touches) against them earlier this year and even knocked out a nice 133 last week. This ball magnet loves playing at the SCG where he has averaged 129 this year from 7 games. Get on! Be gutsy!

#3 – Tom Mitchell v Gold Coast @ the SCG

In his last two games at the SCG, Mitchell has ripped out 138 and 132. He torn the Suns a new one in round 10 with 131 and has the makings to go big this week. This is the guy I’ll bring in for the injured Swan, especially after his form that has seen him have 142 and 138 in his last two games this year.

#4 – Scott Pendlebury v Essendon @ the MCG

He floated across half back last week, and was unreal with 142pts. He had 118 on the Bombers earlier this year and now they suck even more than ever. Pendles will be floating across the back half again and he’ll rack up plenty.

#5 – Stefan Martin v Bulldogs @ the GABBA

Ranked #2 on form over the last three weeks averaging 127, Big Stef hasn’t slowed down. He scored 96 and 99 in his last two games against the Dogs and last week, Goldy had 54 hit outs (107pts) against their depleted, part time ruck department.

#6 – Brent Stanton v Collingwood @ the MCG

This game will be “bruise free footy” and this is the ultimate style that Stanton loves. He averages 105 in his last 3 games this year and has posted…wait for it… 130, 150 and 143 on the Pies in his last three. Wowzers!

#7 – Taylor Adams v Essendon @ the MCG

Same reasons as Stanton, this will be a cruisy game. Adams had 135 last week and 127 on the Bombers earlier this year. Sneaky pick who could go 140+ this week.

#8 – Jack Steven v West Coast @ Domain Stadium

Jack had his best score ever of 166 against the Eagles earlier this year, but they were given up heaps of points at that stage. They don’t give them up like that anymore and after a bad loss to the Crows, they will be more up and about than ever. Jack did have 122 last week though and still should be good.

#9 – Todd Goldstein v Richmond @ Etihad Stadium

Great option… if he plays. Yes, another rumoured player to be missing this week. If he does play, he’ll be great again. He scratched up 107 last week and will meet Maric this Friday night. He only managed 71 on him earlier this year but will be better than that this week. He’s a chance for the Brownlow and has averaged 113 in his last 5 this year. The train will roll on!

#10 – Steele Sidebottom v Essendon @ the MCG

Same as the other lads in this game that will be very high scoring for Fantasy… but his form has been sensational as well with 111, 131 and 113 in his last 3 games. Steele loves playing the Bombers and has posted 109, 124, 126 and 143 against them in his last 4. If you’re an owner, get excited.

I ALSO LIKE…

Yeah I still like Adam Treloar this week against the Demons, a team that 7 Dockers scored 100+ on last week. But here is only 10 spots in a top 10 isn’t there. Treloar has had 86, 101 and 159 in his last three against them and 129 and 109 in the last two weeks.

Brandon Ellis only had 87 last week but should be better against the Roos this week after Hunter (124), Macrae (116) and Boyd (110) found the going pretty easy last week.  Dustin Martin might cop a tag from Jacobs though so that’s a concern for him.

Matt Priddis has scored 114, 101, 102, 103 and 107 in his last 5 against the Saints but has been a little wishy washy with scores of 70, 124 and 70 in his last three this year.

Hamish Hartlett is a surprise packet who has scored 125, 123 and 107 in his last three this year to be the 7th most inform player over this time. He’ll play this Freo ‘B Team’ and even Melbourne had 6×100+ scores against their ‘A Team’ last week.

Finally, my biggest smokie for the week…. keep an eye on Jack Gunston. He had 161 on the Blues earlier this year and last week Jeremy Cameron kicked 7 goals for 142pts against them.

WHY NOT?

Ok, here I am going to only mention the players that people actually care about and have in their teams. So here is a brief explanation as to why, they were not in my top 10 this week. So…

Why not Jordan Lewis? He should dominate the Blues but he has only averaged 99 in his last three games this year. He had 111 on the Blues earlier this year but who knows even if he’ll play.

Why not Josh P. Kennedy? Yeahhhh, he is averaging 126 in his last three but he only had 60 on the Suns in round 10. No tag and no vest. I’m baffled but you just can’t captain him based on this. Imagine your captain scoring 60 in the GF. Heart breaking!

Why not Patrick Dangerfield? Last week, Collingwood had 9×100+ scores against the Cats and this week, Danger will have a crack at his ‘new’ team maybe, on his new home ground at Simonds. He hasn’t scored over 95 in his last two games this year and only had 68 on the Cats last year.

Thanks guys, it’s been a pleasure as always. Good luck this week and I’ll see ya next year!
