Finally back to full teams last weekend and didn’t those score go down well. This week however most will be playing a few men down with some of the key competition heavy weights going down with either injury, suspension or stupidity. Firstly on the injury front Lance Franklin faces a test this week after tweaking his hamstring late in the fourth quarter. Hawthorn have said that the injury is not as bad as initially expected however I think 1-2 weeks rest should cover it. Paul Chapman was a late omission last week, but can anyone really say that they are surprised? We all knew the big man would have some down time this year, but let’s hope it just the one game. In saying so groins are particularly tricky so Geelong may err on the side of caution if there is an actual problem there especially as they are playing Gold Coast. Alan Didak is still a mystery to me as he should still have a few weeks of healing time ahead of him, but again reports say he is a possibility to play. Luke Power took a nasty nock to the ribs on the weekend and is out for two as is Melbournes Tom Mcdonald who was coughing up blood after sustaining internal bleeding.
Suspension wise Brendan Goddard will miss two week leaving a hole in most defensive units and Adelaides Tex Walker will miss three for yet another sling tackle. Injury clouds surrounded Stewart Crameri after Essendons win over the weekend as the forward was subbed off with a calf complain. Not to worry however as he will have plenty of healing time as he too has two weeks on the sideline via suspension. Maybe just maybe in the next two weeks David Zaharakis will be back? Seeing a quad injury is usually 4-6 timeframe wise he surely can’t be too far away.
And finally to stupidity. Daniel Conners (fired) and Dustin Martin are in trouble again for a yet another off-field behavior related incident. The latter of the two is more significant DT wise but with Conners sidelined for 6 weeks over his last incident everyone will be watching very closely to see what happened here. Still on stupidity and Taylor Adams should be back this week (form permitting) after serving his one week club imposed band for his night club scuffle.
The rookie stocks are taking a bit of a battering as well this year as the young bodies are starting to tire. With the injury lists of both GWS and GC steadily growing, just goes to show what a few years does in terms of strength and conditioning. Dylan Sheils heads GWS recent additions and is looking at 4 weeks with an ankle injury. He joins the likes of Stephen Coniglio and Jacob Townsend who too have at least a few weeks off ahead of them. Promising GC forward Alex Sexton has been ruled out for the year after playing only 6 games. Sexton will have surgery on his problematic hip in hopes for being right for season 2013. Team mate Jaeger O’Meara will too go under the knife and miss the rest of the year with a groin complaint.
Last but most definitely not least fingers crossed Scott Pendlebury will be back this week to face Carlton. Collingwood have done all the right things in allowing the superstar to fully re-coop from his fractured tibia and it seems like a green light from now in. Carlton have also hinted that Marc Murphy is not far away and is a possibility for next week. Given most people would have traded him, he could make a handy POD if his price drops nicely and his form is right.
And that rounds it up. The injury list below is from afl.com and the Herald Sun. Some timeframes may differ slightly to official individual club releases and people with inside knowledge. So do some research before pulling the trigger?
