Excuse me: How many trades should I have remaining at this stage, do you think?

    I have 16TL….

And I think that’s not too bad after a slow start, and my team is starting resemble something alright.

Eliminator Status: GAWN! Due to Montagna’s stupid hit on our favourite Mr Ed, I had Bewick on the field instead. Then at half time in the Freo v Weagles I had Lower + 105 vs Mundy and Fyfe. I was looking all sweet and then Lower gets subbed off. Lost by 19 points
DT Studs: Heath Shaw on debut for Grimes, Jelwood, Boyd, Swan, Buddy, Knights
DT Duds: Mark Harvey for subbing Lower instead of any number of other crabs that were twice as bad as him, Goddard, Montagna, Petrie, Tapscott’s 6 point 2nd half
On the Chopping Block: Lower to the Poop and Tappy to Goodes
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Stoked with Heater’s debut, hopefully he can continue to break tags like he has for the last 4-5 weeks. Congrats also to all those who went Suckling!

DT Studs: Buckley & Usuals (Selwood Boyd Swan Goodes Fyfe)
DT Duds: Embley Stanton where the f are you!
On the Chopping Block: Tap, Matera, Otten
Vent/Brag/Whatever: help! not sure what to do now my def is seriously week, and i need 1 more mid and fwd premo but as i have already traded heavily to get here (1st year DTer) i’m a little unsure wether i should just hang onto the rest of my trades for a little longer or pick up the premos that are on the move…

    Team is:
God, Enright, Gibbs, Adcock, Heppel, Stanley, Duigan (Buckley, Lower, Otten)
Swan, Boyd, Embley, Stanton, Selwood, Conca (Harris, Krack, Hib)
    Sandi, Cox (Smith, McCauley)
Goodes, Sylvia, Buddy, Voldt 1& 2, Fyfe, I Smith (Tap, Prestia, Matera)

Targets in list of priority are:
    1 downgrade – round 9
    Ablett & Lynch – round 10
    Chappy & Mzungu/Calinan?- round 11
    Lids & downfrade? – round 12

this would mean i only have 6 trades left for LTI’s for round 13 on and the following team:

God LIDS ENRIGHT ADCOCK Heppel Stanley (Duigan, Lower,?)
    SANDI COX (McCauley, Smith)
GOODES SYLVIA BUDDY N.Voldt J.Voldt FYFE CHAP (Krak/Prestia, Lynch, Smith)

Am I mad, should i wait longer to trade in these premos as i am only really interested in winning my league???

sorry for long post, appreciate all comments.

6 trades for Rounds 13-24 is way too risky… that’s half the season! Someone posted earlier to suggest having 6 trades left from Rounds 21-24 alone.

I would suggest delaying some of those upgrades and downgrades as long as possible… every week without using a trade makes a difference. They’ll be like gold by the end of the season.

For example, not sure what your cash situation is like, but do you really need to bring Lynch in? He’ll be looking mighty enticing and will make some money… but in your situation with limited trades left, you might want to consider long term instead of short term. You already have Matera who will hopefully play most games, and can happily sit on your bench if not required.

        May 16, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Also, Conca is doing reasonably well and will hopefully play most games, so could end up being another low-grade “keeper”.

          May 16, 2011 at 2:22 pm

cheers, so better to just ride out the next 6 rounds and only trade if LTI?

With conca its ok for the moment but would imagine i need a min 100 in my mids

            May 16, 2011 at 3:28 pm

It depends, if all you care about is League then yes, wait and save your trades. If you are going for overall, delaying trades and saving them for Lti’s is a pretty negative approach and wont get close to the car.

Kuruki’s right… what I’ve suggested is more a more conservative strategy. It’s all about risk vs reward. Trading a few extra guns in earlier might prove to be a masterstroke… or it might not.

Last season, I used my last trade in the league semi-finals to ensure I made the Grand Final. Although I made the GF, i had no trades left, had to eat two or three doughnuts and lost!

Vent/Brag/Whatever: Had kept trades up my sleeve. Have 20 trades and $153K in the bank, will make a move this week, deciding between Chappy into the mids, or Enright in to the backs to provide much needed cover. Although as the past few weeks have shown plans go out the window once the squads come out Thursday and you find yourself constantly covering your holes.
