Travis Boak: Deck of Dream Team 2011

Travis Boak plays for Port Adelaide, but don’t hold that against him. He is becoming a consistent Dream Team performer and will hopefully continue to improve in 2011. We’re hoping he can turn his price at 95 points into something over 100 and be a unique pick up for our teams.

Name: Travis Boak
Club: Port Adelaide
Position: Midfielder
Bye Rounds: 12 & 18
2010 Average: 94.9
2010 Games Played: 20
Predicted Average: 101

Why should I pick him? We all sat up and watched Boak’s final round score of 148 and said “I’m picking him next year”. He had another improving year in 2010 with some very consistent scoring throughout the season. He scored over 100 points 7 times during the season with only 5 scores under 80 points. One of the positives about watching Boak, is that he is a tackling machine. Those extra 4 points are very handy when adding them onto his 20+ possessions each week. He can also chime in with a few goals when spending some time up forward.

Why shouldn’t I pick him? Port Adelaide are shit, and probably aren’t going to get much better. Boak will continue to attract a tag, which he struggles with at times. I see his kick:handball ratio as a bit of an issue… but towards the latter part of the season, he got the ball onto the boot more. He has his appendix out last week, but shouldn’t really set him back too much in his pre-season campaign.

Deck of DT Rating. KING – Boak needs to be selected as a keeper and his byes fall on single rounds. Their byes at Round 12 and 18 are pretty handy for Dream Team as he’ll get a couple of rests when a lot of players need them! Boak will be a unique-ish pick with some upside, but essentially a keeper who you know what you’re going to get.
