AFL Fantasy’s Mr Popularity

AFL Fantasy has been open for a week and thousands of teams have been put together in the lead up to the huge 2013 AFL Dream Team season. Using the Assistant Coach “Coaches Choice” section of the Analyser, the most popular players per position, lead by Brendon Goddard (DEF/MID) in 44% of teams, Jack Viney (MID), Gary Ablett (MID), Jaeger O’Meara (MID), Bryce Gibbs (DEF/MID), Lance Franklin (FWD), Matthew Leuenberger (RUC), Dean Cox (RUC/FWD), Brent Staker (DEF/FWD) and Dane Swan (MID).

The table below shows the most popular players per position. In most cases, I have put dual position players into the lesser position (eg, DEF/MIDS into the defenders) for the sake of the tables. If you want to see complete lists, activate the Assistant Coach analyser and click on Coaches Choice.

Using these names, I went through and picked a team… well, almost. I straight up and went for the 8 most popular defenders, 10 most popular pure mids, 4 most popular rucks and 7 most popular forwards… why not 8 forwards? I have only $19,700 left in my salary cap. If you want to have a crack at fitting a popular team together making use of DPP, or mixing some players not mentioned here up, go for it! The team below is just for a guide. Interesting to see how many of my players are in it.

For more on the Coaches Choice stats including the percentage ownership, have a crack at the free trial of the Assistant Coach on the AFL Fantasy Dream Team site… you will also see some articles written by us on there too!

  • Now everyone has my team, bar five players!

  • Doesn’t look too bad Warnie ;)

  • Mmm interesting., but the fun part is who’s got what smokies
& Diamond in the ruffies! Nice work dawg…

    • +Calling out all South Aussies to join my S.A league
      CROWEATERS DT – 974792
No half ass Harry’s either please, we love the word
COMPETITIVE cuz that’s how it should be ;)

      • I’m in mate, love a bit of hometown rivalry.

      • Go the Crows; I’m in!

Now hopefully the rest of the afl league can be found guilty of things and no-one will get a first or second draft pick this year.

Oldie and Chubby (SA you know) were saying Bombers could get demoted, but oldie still thinks Crows are perfect. Only in Adelaide.

        Anyway COME ON!!

      • League is full., thankyou to all coaches who joined!

  • Holy shite!
That was very close to my team until I got to the forward line.

Seems like my year will be hanging on my forward uniques.

  • Only have 7 of the same premo’s #offtherails

  • Great article, interesting that Beams and Goldstein weren’t in there though

  • Looks like people know what they’re doing :O

  • Interesting read. Thanks Warnie! Was happy to see not all my premos were included. Suprised that Watson is not in the mids- the guys is uber consistent and rarely misses games (well assuming Essendon don’t get rubbed out this year haha).

+ For those WA DTers, I have set up a league, so please feel free to join:
The West is Best – #439478

  • Dam this is almost identical to my team I thought I was pretty clever. LOL

  • Goddard should be in everyone’s team. If all the Essendon boys get done for the year BJ will just be running around kicking it to himself all game.

  • Best teams, for my liking, will have mid price players on the rise not the gun/rookie only team.

  • Warnie, I’ve had a play around with this and have come up with the following.

    Goddard,Gibbs,Heppell,Broughton,Docherty,Terlich, Goodes,Colquhoun

    Swan,Ablett, Cotchin, Pendlebury,Fyfe,Embley,Wines,O’Meara,Crouch,Viney

    Cox,Leuenberger, Daw, Currie

    Ball out Embley In
    Grundy out Currie in
    Staker Forward Colquhoun back
I think that is all I did. Shame to lose Ball but something had to give.
I think I still have all the names mentioned too!
