Striking Gold: Round 5 Review

What an absolute monster of a round. Thursday to Tuesday! Phew! Very happy as it is over. There were some big heroes this week (think Boyd, Pendlebury, Petrie) and a few villains (think Broughton). Anyway, it’s time for you to discuss how you went. Remember, first game for Round 6 is on Thursday night – another partial lockout!

Copy and paste the following and fill it out!

Round 5 Score:

On the Chopping Block:

  • no wonder TKOL is so bloody quiet this round he only scored = 1989

his overall ranking has dropped to 334 !

i’ve now jumped up to a respectable National Ranking of 462 and on the climb again this week from 720 after todays round cocclusion …

    G-Bangers on the march !!!

  • Team Name: The PPs
    Round 5 Score: 1910
    ANZAC Medalist: Matthew Boyd
DT Studs: Boyd, Goddard, Heppel, Montagna,
DT Duds: D.Swan, Richardson, Krak, Otten, Duigan, Toy
On the Chopping Block:A Krak, C Richardson
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Terrible Week…dropped from 700 to 3000 in National ranking…destroyed by Donut, Richardson and wrong sub choices…need to trade Rich and Krak but nothing to intresting on the horizon as yet…only lose Franklin and Sandi this week whilst gaining Cox, Grimes, Sylvia, Goodes and Darling back so hope to bounce back next round

  • Team Name: The Kings of Leon
    Round 5 Score: 1989
    ANZAC Medalist: Pendles
    DT Studs: Same as most
    DT Duds: Same as most
On the Chopping Block: Cam Bruce to Adcock is so tempting… but I’ll stick fat.. i think!

Very happy with the fight my boys showed with a man down (krakour) and richo’s stinker.
I am glad i took the hit with kraks and didnt waste a trade as Im still 334 overall and crusing along nicely before the big trade season begins according to plan!

    • Are we still laughing at the Mitchell trade? I am lol

      • Who isn’t?

      • You did ok from it, got unlucky initially. When you did it I had to consider it too. I kept Monty and he’s up and going again so hopefully he repays the faith I had in him.

We swapped ranks over the week. Nothing in it, i’d be close to being first if I had c on boyd or pendelbury and matera over richo. I reckon anyone within 500 odd points is still in it.

Im not seeing much upgrading for me next week but maybe a few over the next 2-4 weeks.

Seeing your always thereabouts is it accurate that most pointy end teams have made 3-4 trades already?

        • @mtooler…
Not sure about most other teams with the side trading but you cant over do it!
Another cruisy next week on the trades from my part then its hell for leather every week until the sides “perfect”.
Hopefully I dont slide too much in the next 2 weeks but it wont matter, after that i just fire bazookas and real in the field to the top!

    • Also well done to the TKOL Challenge league ranked 14 overall & the DT Talk Cash league 25 and closing!

  • Team Name: The Southside Way
    Round 5 Score: 1912
    ANZAC Medalist: Boyd
DT Studs: Heppell, Goddard, Bartel, Boyd, Foley, Sandi
DT Duds: Gibbs (WTF ARE YOU DOING BRYCE?!), Duigan, Otten, Toy, Didak, Pitt, Richardson
On the Chopping Block: Richardson and Otten.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: I am burning a FAT hole in my pocket. Currently have 492k in the bank and I really do not know what to do with it. I’ll most likely pick up J-Voldt for Richardson. Then next week go BANG BANG and get Chappy/Pendles and Enright. Been happy with Chris Knights’ performance so far. Had one MAJOR screw up this week whereby i chose to put Z.Smith on the field instead of Petrie. FMDT!

  • Team Name: The Magaggies

    Round 5 Score: 2095

DT Studs: Loving Boyd, Pendles and Selwood’s work

DT Duds: Richo, Broughton / Toy

On the Chopping Block: Broughton’s goneskies… thanks for not playing and saving me 50K!

Vent / Brag / Whatever: Missing the Broughton to Adcock, Richardson to Petrie double trade by 1.1K… cost me about 200 points which would have got my season back on track

  • Team Name: Shaw Things
    Round 5 Score: 2005
    ANZAC Medalist: Pendlebury
    DT Studs: 5. Pendlebury 4. Boyd 3. Bartel 2. H.Shaw 1. Heppell
DT Duds: Richardson, Duigan, Gibbs, Otten
    On the chopping block: Broughton
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Happy to make 2000 after being forced to play a donut on the field in Krak. Broughton needs to go and will for Adcock most likely.

  • Team Name: DemonFlag2014
    Round 5 Score: 2022
    ANZAC Medalist: Drew Petrie
DT Studs: Petrie, Bartel, Murphy, Goddard, Adcock, Heppell
DT Duds: Gibbs, Duigan, Otten, Yarran, Harris, Z.Smith
On the Chopping Block: Krak, Yarran,Otten
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Moved into the top 1% so can’t complain. Will be content with a similar score in round 6 to hold my position before I look at chopping a few duds from the squad. And Otten are you listening?

  • Team Name: Modern Marvels
    Round 5 Score: 1995

On the Chopping Block: Richo, Krak
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Needed 47 points from buddy and bartel in the last to crack 2000, only needed 16 points with 10 minutes to go and all i got was 11. Getting me to 1995 FMDT

  • wat SANFL club does ben jacobs play for?

  • jack riewoldt anyone?

  • Round 5 Score: 1956
    ANZAC Medalist: Pendles
DT Studs: 3 votes Pendles, 2 Murphy, 1 McCauley
DT Duds: 3 votes Batchelor, 2 Richardson, 1 Bruce
On the Chopping Block: Bruce & Gray… maybe. Both were risky selections from the start and can’t help but wonder if Adcock & Sylvia might make the team perform a little better.

  • Team Name: Brooke’s Chooks

    Round 5 Score: 2,176

ANZAC Medalist: Drew Petrie, any ruckman scoring in that range deserves a mention

DT Studs: Petrie, Pendles, Boyd, Heppell

    DT Duds: Richardson, Yarran, Duigan

On the Chopping Block: No one at the moment missing 3 big forwards (Pav, Johnson and Buddy)

Vent/Brag/Whatever: Still got $218,000 in the kitty with only 3 trades used ranked 6,171

  • Team Name: Australia (started when I was younger… never changed haha)
    Round 5 Score: 1919
    ANZAC Medalist: Drew Petrie
DT Studs: Drew Petrie, Adcock, Boyd, Selwood, Goddard, Jolly
DT Duds: Yarran, Krak, Cam Rich, Bewick
On the Chopping Block: Many… I’ll have a look at Yarran throughout the week as well as Krakouer being the two main culprits. With 270k in the bank might wait until the end of the multibyes and use the spare change to upgrade a few of my mid-pricers.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Accidentally missed out on the full-lockout on Saturday due to bad reception over Easter and didn’t make my planned trade of Petrie to Fyfe… quite pleased to say the least.

  • Team Name: Ashrash the 3rd

    Round 5 Score: 2148

ANZAC Medalist: Scott “The Man” Pendlebury

DT Studs: Deledio, Heppell, Goddard, Pendles, Boyd, J Selwood, Sandilands, Fyfe, Pavlich, Franklin and Knights

DT Duds: Bruce, Duigan, Otten, Gibbs, Ryder, Didak and Richardson

    On the Chopping Block:

Not really on the chopping block, but from now on will start Matera over Richo

Bruce, Ryder and Didak but only 1 of them can go… Will keep them all for the next 2 weeks and then will decide

Very happy because I put Pendles captain over Swan this week last minute because of their records against the Dons. Pumped because I have broken into the top 5000 and 2% overall….

  • Team Name: No Surrender
    Round 5 Score: 2124
ANZAC Medalist: Bartel as Captain, but honourable mention to Pendles and Boyd
    DT Studs: See above
DT Duds: A few underperforming rooks
On the Chopping Block: No one this round.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Up to 27th overall which is the highest I’ve ever been; stoked! One more multibye round to ride out before being in the clear for a while. Thank god

  • Team Name: Costas Calypsos

DT Studs: Pendles, Boyd, Jimmy, Goddard, Heppell Matera
    DT Duds: Gibbs, Me, Yarran
On the Chopping Block: Krak/Rich, Yarran
Vent/Brag/Whatever: I had Gibbs as captain with his 70 having taken it off Pendles at the last minute, could have nearly cracked 2,200 if I had made the right call. Thinking of trying to bring in Montagna this week and am delighted that Swan is dropping in price since I don’t have him yet

  • Team Name:The Year of
    Round 5 Score:2077
    ANZAC Medalist: Yep had him
DT Studs:Pendle, Petrie, Matera, Krak (he got Mater on the field) and Higgins but only for his 4th qtr
    DT Duds: Zaha & Palmer
On the Chopping Block: Palmer, Krak or Richardson. Still need to go window shopping
Vent/Brag/Whatever: This week was the first week I was happy with my mid pricer strategy with Foley, Higgins but it was Palmer and Zaha who let the team down. The real coup was that I traded in Petrie this week. Makes me feel like i know what i’m doing!

DT Duds: hurley (for the final time) Gibbs Richardson
On the Chopping Block: Hurley to adcock next week gonna get fyfe and/or chapman
Vent/Brag/Whatever: didn’t have pendles or boyd
Brother didnt do his team until after the partial lock out, so he left Goddard and volt on bench took a few donuts and scored 1770 haha

  • Team Name: Cakehornes
    Round 5 Score: 2186
    ANZAC Medalist: heppel
DT Studs: Petrie, boyd, pendles, heppel.
    DT Duds: Richardson
On the Chopping Block: krak or richardson maybe
Vent/Brag/Whatever: montagna needed to score 124 not 126 so i would choose pendles or boyd, missed that one, making a move up the rankings next week should be a good one for me with only two out

  • Team Name: Boxcrushers
    Round 5 Score: 2148
ANZAC Medalist: Boyd… Or maybe Petrie because it was so unexpected
DT Studs: Boyd, Petrie, Sandi, Fyfe, Heppell, Monty(C), Adcock
    DT Duds: Bewick, Toy, Gibbs
On the Chopping Block: Will leave the team as is for now.. Got some planned trades in a few more weeks..
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Was never going for the car (still not) but have managed to climb into the top 2% as of this round.. Covered for the next multibye and hopefully looking at a better score. A touch over 100K in the bank so just waiting for some of the cash cows to fatten up a little more before pouncing on a few cheap premiums

    • So this is only my 2nd year at DT and I didn’t really know what I was doing last year until about 1/2 way through the seson.. I’m finding this season to be so much more interesting though, am I the only one who actually likes the sub rule and the multibye rounds? It just gives you so much more to think about and when so many peoples teams are almost identical, the sub rule and the decisions we have to make because of it help set these teams apart..

  • Team Name:the Gorillas

DT Duds: Duigan, B.Smith, Z.smith, Richardson
On the Chopping Block: No one, maybe Kraks
Vent/Brag/Whatever: nothin to complain about realy, Richardson starting as the sub even thou he was named on the ground was bull s@#t. And wish I went Boyd over swan

  • Team Name: Harts
    Round 5 Score: 2087
    ANZAC Medalist: Petrie
DT Studs: Deledio, Heppell, Goddard, Boyd Montagna, Sandi, Fyfe,
DT Duds: RICHARDSON (permanent bench) Otten, Duigan, Ryder, Gibbs, Didak
On the Chopping Block: L Keeffe (useless 4th ruck) for B McCauley… an 86 is very tempting but i’m unsure if this move is worth losing a trade. Ryder needs to lift, but i have faith in him
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Should of gotten 2150 if it wasn’t for richardson. However, I’m coping very well throughout the multi-round byes topping the 2000s in both occasions.

Congrats to the Gold Coast Suns

    DT Duds: Duigan, Richardson, Hurley
On the Chopping Block: Nobody this week, but Hurley will be a premium forward next week and . Richardson is now permanent bench.

DT Studs: Boyd, Pendles, Goddard, heppell, Suckling, bartel (c), sandi, fyfe
DT Duds: Duigan, Otten, Yarren, Richardson
On the Chopping Block: if Richardson gets dropped, he is out because I will have a donut!
Vent/Brag/Whatever: two-thirds of the way through, I was looking at 1800-1900, but Boyd, pendles etc. got me through to a par score. Thought I was gonna lose my good ranking, but I went up and now I sit at 2383 overall. If had Boyd as captain as originally planned, and had picked the right bench players, my score would have benn around the 2100-2200 mark. Still quite happy with my score considering crap start.
