Chook’s Rooks: Round 9

Want to know what made the kid on the anti-smoking ad get his grizzle on? Chook has the answer, and it wasn’t Scott Gumbleton’s third sub-40 score of the season, as sad as that was.

As dad to a little fella myself, it kills me to watch the three-year-old kid in the anti-cancer stick ad bawl his eyes out at the train station.  Like most, I’d assumed he got himself so worked up because he couldn’t find his mum, but a little bit of research reveals the true story. I spoke with the producer of the ad who said the boy had maxed-out rookies like Lewis Jetta and Anthony Morabito in his midfield, as well as Ben Nason and Scott Gumbleton leaking cash in his backs and forwards. “The dude clearly needed to make some downgrades,” the producer said, “so all I had to do was show him the list of one and two-gamers coming through and he cried for a week.” I feel his pain. There are rookies peaking all over the place and hardly a yelp of help on the horizon, especially in the midfield. Some coaches are even considering downgrading to yet-to-debut $77kers, just to pocket the cash from their fattened-up cash cows. To see just how bad the situation has become, let’s move on to the three-or-more gamers.

Three-or-more gamers

With more rookies in the red zone (higher breakeven than average) this week than any previous week, it’s obvious that many of the kids from our original line-ups have served their time and are ready to be shipped off. Popular picks like Tom Scully (BE 104, avg 72), Gumbleton (BE 79, avg 56), Jack Trengove (BE 78, avg 75), Alex Silvagni (BE 62, avg 64), Dustin Martin (BE 55, avg 62) and Nason (BE 53, avg 61) have breakevens higher or just below their averages. Of course, last week I was rabbiting on about the big drop about to be suffered by Brisbane’s Todd Banfield before he busted out a ton and sent his BE spiralling back down to 44. They’re unpredictable beasts, these rookies.

Aside from Banfield, the best scores came from both surprising and unsurprising sources, with Fremantle forward Nathan Fyfe outscoring his previous best by 33 points to rack up a Warnie-like (the cricket one, not the legendary DT one) 99 not out, while his teammate Michael Barlow was his typically awesome self by compiling a lusty 97. Midfield pair Ben Howlett and Jack Trengove also reached the 90s, while there were 80s all around for forward threesome Cameron Hitchcock, James Podsiadly and Jarrad Grant.

Two gamers

To avoid getting into fights, Barry Hall needs Velcro footy boots. To avoid losing cash, we need decent downgrade options. It doesn’t look like either is likely, especially if it’s the midfield or backs that you need to make the trade. In the two-gamer category, we normally have a bunch of young bucks on the precipice of their first gigantic price rise, but it’s slim pickings this week, to be honest. Three of the four players in the shop window are forwards, and the other – Wayde Skipper – is a ruck, so no point bothering with him. Of the aforementioned forwards, St Kilda’s Nick Heyne has moderate-to-poor future job prospects, with guys like fringe-dwellers Armitage, Geary and Eddy hoping to force their way back in, and has scored lowly at any rate with a 40 and 35 to date, while Henry Playfair is surely no more than a placeholder for Daniel Bradshaw at Sydney. You’d expect Josh Smith (or Jesse White even) would be putting pressure on Playfair to hold his spot even before Bradshaw returns from his three-week knee injury anyway. If it’s security you want, Melbourne’s penultimate no.1 pick is probably your best bet, but you’ll have to pay extra to bring Jack Watts on board. Watts has impressed far more in his sophomore season than he did last year, but costs $145k, which means you’ll clear just $83k if you’re downgrading Gumbleton, for instance. While that’s not usually considered sufficient profit to sacrifice a trade, it might just have to do for those wanting to ditch Tadgh Kennelly for Ryan Hargrave or Sam Fisher before their prices leap, or those simply fed up with the diarrhea being dished up by Gumby on a regular basis (yeah, I realise his sh*t was a point better than Brown’s round-nine skidmark).

One gamers

When it rains it pours is a pretty daft cliché, but it’s gone past midnight so I’m done being clever. The point? There’s a flood of forwards at the moment, with three of the five rookie-priced players to debut in round nine listed as FWDs by the DT gods. They were Jack Gunston ($89k) at Adelaide, Nathan O’Keefe ($94k) at North Melbourne and comeback kid Austin Wonaeamirri ($138k) at Melbourne. Wheel Of Fortune fans (an oxymoron, surely) will argue that Wonaeamirri costs so much because of all those vowels, but the rest of us know it’s because he racked up some tasty scores in his rookie year of 2008. He’ll have to do better than the 47 he put up on Saturday night to convince us he’s worth the investment this time around, although neither Gunston nor O’Keefe made much of a case with 36 and 58 respectively. Outside of the forwards, we also witnessed the debut of St Kilda ruck Rhys Stanley, who looked okay in the pre-season but will be ostracised due to his position, and Sydney defender Campbell Heath. It was eventually finding Heath’s name at the end of this list of downgrade options that quelled the tears of that little boy. A definite bright spark amongst the muck, Heath is well regarded by the Sydney leadership group (at least, that’s what my research assistant Ossie tells me) and scored a promising 71 on debut against Fremantle. It’s not all good, however, with the Swans needing to find room for Shane Mumford and, at some point, Ben McGlynn and Craig Bird. Plus there’s the blokes demanding a call-up from below with 54-possession games (Matt O’Dwyer) and seven-goal efforts (Trent Dennis-Lane). Interesting times ahead at Sydney for us rookie watchers.

  1. nothing worth downgrading to this week, give the trade button a rest for this week

    • Im thinking about it…

      Goodes is tempting

      As is Fisher…………

      f**k you Kennelly…..Brennan………..Shuey……….Kaylor-Thomas

      FUCK

  2. kayler thomson job security was always questionable at best, he made his debut with at least 4 walk up inclusions on the sidelines through injury.

  3. Contemplating doing the Gumble-Watts, was hoping to keep Gumby as my 8th Fwd for the year and have him fill in for injuries, sadly he’s being doing that more often than i would have liked… Hoping to combine the 83k with the money i make when i decide to downgrade Duncan (feeling he’ll play this week) to help me get GAJ but then that would mean doing three trades and only getting one upgrade with little to no cash left over, would be nice to have 50k or more so i can do another upgrade, but that would mean taking a much lower job security player and likely losing that playing 8th forward emergency. Jaensch is my ninth and i think he’s f**ked his chances. Will decide what to do when teams are named, if Duncan isnt then i will be more inclined to bring in Watts and vice-versa if Jaensch or Duncan are named.

  4. As good as Chook is, this article made things about as clear as a full backs vision after a handy sleeper hold.
Think I might take the risk to get in Campbell for Silvagni so I can upgrade Ball to Hayes as Lenny will be out of reach soon. Hopefully Webberly keeps his spot as my back up back man. ‘
With the money I make, Gilbee and Pav could be added the week after too if my calculations are near the mark, and if my calculations are, then there won’t be too many trades left!

    • Yeah, was too tired to know what I was writing by the end. I guess the point is, I wouldn’t be downgrading this week unless you’re desperate or a gambler. Or a desperate gambler.

Silvagni to Heath isn’t the world’s worst trade if you’ve got Webberley, as I reckon he’ll get a decent run.

  5. Here is my trading for this week:

    Tadgh Kennelly > Sam Fisher

    Dustin Martin > James McDonald

    Win… That is all

  6. Nice work , Chook.

I am going to listen to you though! After failing to take your Danny Hughes advice, I’m going to listen to your warning signs regarding Campbell Heath. I want to turn Kennelly into Goddard, but to do that, I need Maguire or Gumbleton to a sub-$100k player. I could just go one trade to Hargrave. Or even play Webberley or Maguire for the next month. With 9 trades left, I’m a little worried!

    • are you suggesting you should hold off for another week??

im in a similar position, its tempting but the trades are getting lesser and lesser…

  7. Re: Campbell Heath. Chook, you forgot to mention Jarred Moore, who’s pretty close to returning and whose selection is inked in every week as the sneaky forward pocket type. From here on it gets hypothetical about who misses out and who plays where. Kennelly out, perhaps Nick Smith gets dropped, maybe they’ll go with one ruckman and drop Mike Pyke, maybe Ted Richards misses out. Never under-estimate the power of the leadership group at Sydney…Heath in! haha

    • Nick Smith played a real good game on Stephpen Hill. He kept him to 1 possie until 3 qtr time or something like that. I dont think he will be going in the short term.

    • Yeah, ok, I should get my facts sorted out in future before I bang something out. Players omitted this week through injury: Bradshaw, Kennelly. Lets go with Nick Smith again this week then. Paul Bevan is a real fringe player and will probably make way for Bird. And Richards was already omitted. Two spots then (assuming that Mumford replaces Pyke) become available for the players due to return from injury: McGlynn, Moore. I don’t think Chook can do anything more than advise that Campbell Heath is a gamble, it’s just a gamble I’m prepared to take and then see what happens down the track.

  8. Was fretting that doing the Silvagni > Heath trade before Wednesday was going to be another trading disaster resulting in a rook on the pine doing SFA. Allayed my fears somewhat Chook.

    Cheers

  9. No trades for me this week.

Can’t see the point in downgrading to sub-standard rookies at the moment.

The only one I might consider is Gumby to McNeil, then Martin to some midfield gun.

May just hold off for another week though.

    • There has been a lot of talk for McNeil to get a game at Sydney. No doubt he is one to watch at 77k. Plus you can get him as a midfielder or a forward.

  10. Backs- Hodge, Gilbee, Kelly, Waters, Maguire, O’Brien, SIilvagni (Emergencies- Nason, Webberley)
Midfield- Swan, Ablett (c), Barlow, Cooney, J. Selwood, Judd (Emergencies- Cunnington, Armstrong)
Rucks- Kruezer, Naitanui (Emergencies- J. Roughead (Bull), Charman)
Forwards- Chapman, Pavlich, O’Keefe, S. Johnson, Brown, Podsiadly, Rockliff (Emergencies- Davis, Hitchcock)

  11. Nice work Chook,
I’ll be looking to bring Heath in next week.
Also I hope Danny Hughes can hold off for a bit longer so I can bring him in for when Hitchcock peaks.

  12. There is no Gumbleton trade this week (except jack watts)

Dont force it coaches, especially if you have under 10 trades. It is ONLY rnd 10… If you use them all now you will look at a tradeless team for several weeks at the end and let me tell ya that is NOOO fun!

  13. Need cash to facilitate upgrade.
Have Sandi & Cox with mcevoy/warnock from start.
Any point making $80,000 by Warnock>77,000 rookie?

    • I can’t believe you’ve spent the lot already! If you’re thinking about bumping Warnock off, I’m thinking your team is pretty set in terms of starters and subs (and dpp subs) so if you’ve got a few trades left, and have your eye on a gun to finish things off then I’d think why not? With Warnie’s Kennelly clause in vogue with the rules committee, surely 4 ruckmen are redundant anyway. Just be aware that you may have to burn a trade later on if that would bother you.

      • Yep, 2 weeks ago traded Martin & Banfield > Swan & Hayes.
Team (as shit as it is) is pretty much set, although with most forwards underperforming, it’s difficult to define SET!
Am liking the look of McEvoy, hope STK keep playing him; far better than King imo, & can use him as back up for Sandi/ Cox should they cop a weeks rest! (coz they wont get injured!)
But I guess Warnock ain’t going nowhere so prob best to just use Hunt/Nason to cover Kenelly, for this week.
J.Brown is a bit of a worry but can cover him with Rockliff, no faith in P.Davis!!!!
Commentator remarked that Davis was doing the Andy Otten role- I WISH!!! Then I could rely on 70/80s, not 32 or 46 last week, when he was on 31 at qtr time!
cheers for your response! I’m gonna sit & hold tight this week!
So will lock Bartel as capt, don’t want to upset tool, but “sweet merciful jesus,”not moving as freely for some reason!
So it’s just a matter of tossing coinas who to start b/w Hunt/Nason? (10 trades left, $6,900)

        • With 10 trades, I wouldn’t hesitate to trade Warnock. I’ve prodded away at my team too but haven’t had much success. I’ve got 8 trades left (Kennelly for Campbell Heath this week and Gumbleton for Didak). Leaves me with only 6 trades left for the remainder of the year. Forwards are good enough as set with Duncan, Rohan and Dangerfield as my 7th and those three available as my mid emergency. Wellingham may be a keeper still (like a lot of my players, they refuse to display anything that remotely resembles consistency). Looks like I’m stuck with Maguire as my 7th in defence but I’m hoping that Merrett’s return will mean he has less responsibility and will score better. Ladson sits on the mid pine and can be subbed with Paul Stewart (Port dpp) who is an adequate reserve. I’d be happy with 70 from my 7th defender or forward anyway the way things have gone. Fisher looks tempting and with plenty of reserve options I may trade for him next week, depending on whatever. A few of my mates are involved in two competitions – double or nothing and the kudos challenge. Double or nothing begins in R10 (this week) – every point you get over your opponent is multiplied and tallied together and then in R15, its double or nothing. The way my team is going, I’m set to lose big time but it can all change because in a strange way, I’m happy with my team even though they can’t churn out points with any consistency. The kudos challenge is a ripper. R15, everyone gets together for the w/e and on Sat night, the boys sit around at a restaurant and determine which team has the greatest kudos (unrelated to dt score). Every player is either +kudos or -kudos. Everyone votes on each player that they don’t have (if everyone has the player, he’s +kudos). If you have an angle on a player, you’ve got to state your case. For eg. Montagna could go either way, Hayes would most certainly be +kudos. Players that suck but score well in dt are poison in the kudos challenge. Shit, this has gone on a bit.

          • I would love to play you in the last 2 or 3 rounds. Your team will resemble a Krispy Kreme shop.

          • You’re wrong about the donuts cowboy…you just don’t get it…but you may want to play my team if its scoring doesn’t pick up.

          • Thanx again mate!
I’ve got Lenny, do you have a rule whereby Lenny can be +kudos to the power of two?(squared)
You wanna chuckle about my dt failure?
“Jeckyll’n'Hydeing,” Cox>Seaby>Cox, saved on Cox’s $90,000 initial price loss, but lots of points & 2 burnt trades!
Still, I’ll sit tight this week then most likely deal with WarLock next week! If I knew Kenelly would ONLY miss 4, I’d be prepared to ride it out, but gut feeling says it’ll be more like 6 min?
I’ve stuck it out with Shuey!!!!!!

  14. Do people like Kennelly to Sam Fisher as an upgrade??

    • Yep! Lots of games at etihaad, proven dt’r and should be prime after injury interrupted start to season!

    • I think it’s a great move. It’s exactly what I want to do but to do so I need to go silvagni > Heath, which makes me nervous…. worth it?

      • Probably not…. Sometimes you have to take risks though. Could you hold out another week???

        Im going to trade then

        Out – Gumbleton in Watts
        Out Kennelly in Fisher

        Backline complete….

Goddard Enright Carrazzo Hodge Fisher Scottland Waters.

        Thanks for the help!

      • Its always the risk you take at this time of year anyway. At the better clubs (ie. the ones that aren’t already looking towards next year), when injured stalwarts are replaced by rookies, how long they stay in the team is determined largely by the impact they have with the opportunity they’re given. The benefit of selecting rookies from capable teams is that if they apply themselves, they’ll get a bit of the ball themselves and they should get easy possessions from their team-mates. The job security of the Jerome Webberly’s and the Phil Davis’s is better but points are a hard graft. He’s a half-back/mid so he’s versatile.

  15. My 7th forward and benchies are Jaensch, Hughes and Roberts. I’m not too fussed when I think about the other 6 (Chapman, Gia, ROK, Goodes, Brown and Pods) but I think I might have had dollar signs in my eyes when I made those downgrades. Still not entirely sure why I brought in Relton f**king Roberts, either.

  16. Great post Chook cheers mate!!

  17. Upgrading Gray this week. My choices are ROK, Goodes, and Chapman.

The safe play would be Gumby -> Watts and then Gray to ROK/Goodes.

but i’m tempted to go Waters -> Heath and Gray -> Chapman. This would mean having Maguire on the ground for a week before i upgrade him to a premium.

    thoughts?

  18. Looks like Bastinac lives on to fight another day. Surely he is due to pump out a decent score at some point!

  19. Good effort chook when there is not much to say.

I have a rollercoaster team with Hargrave and Hall (just to name a couple) playing yo-yo with my DT scores. And like most, my rookies are topping out and Im getting scared about using up trades, so some advice on which rookies to put out on the field and who to keep on the bench would be awesome. Especially as the season goes on and more information is avaliable about the Rookies.

Keep up the good work fella’s.

  20. Ive got enough to finally get in Montagna for Martin, but is anyone worried about the outcome of “StKildagate”
or should i just get him in anyway

  21. Im really unsure just how good Heaths JS is. They have stuck with Jetta for the season so far and he hasnt been that good from what Ive seen. And Roos and the leadership team love him so he could be a decent chance to hold down his position for a while.

My only concern if he does hold his spot, is what position he will play. With Malceski, Mattner and Shaw still in the side as the rebounding defenders, there isnt a lot of ball to go around. And with Kennelly coming back in 3/4 weeks time, he could lose his spot to him.

Personally I think Ill get him as I need the cash to uprade Ball and Gram to premiums in the mids and with Webberlly looking like he’ll be in the tigers side for a while yet, Ill have some decent bench cover.

A quick question, who would you go with out of

    NDS and Ablett
    OR
    Hayes and Montagna

    • Anything with Ablett personally. A true DT god.

    • Deffinately Ablett and Dal Santo- No question

      • Yeah thats what Im thinking as well, I would love to get in Montagna and Ablett, but wont have the funds to get both in unfortunatly. Also means I can wait a week to see how Heath Goes.

Have just done some calculations, and if I downgrade Nason to a rookie (77k) and trade out Ball this week for Montagna, Ill have about $499k to spend on a mid for Gram. Any chance of Ablett being that in the next few weeks? FF Genie reckons he’ll go down to $501k, just hoping that he could come down just that little bit more.

Worth the risk do you think?

  22. who’s a better trade to from kennelly.

    duffield or fisher?

  23. and who has better job security out of webberly and heath?

  24. I got 8 trades left, i really wanna bring in chappie for gray, but as we all know he will get some rest come finals time, which i cant afford. I’m thinking save the trades and let all the suckers that have him now keep him and cop the donuts at the end when ‘general soreness’ kicks in.

    What are other peoples thoughts?

  25. I currently have Maguire on my bench, doing nothing
    What about?

    Maguire (Out) – Heath (In)
    Gumbleton (Out) – Chapman!!! (In)

Heath obviously has major job security issues but Webberly as 1st benchmen, should hold up the fort
Anyone else besides Chapman in the forwards though?

  26. Looking to upgrade Betts… who shud i get; Franklin, stevie J or Goodes? or save up for chapman?

  27. only 6 trades left for the cobs. tough times ahead i would think. backline, mids and ruck are set. forward line is a worry with cyril and gumby/peterson my 6th and 7th forward respectivley. considering upgrading peterson to davis/sylvia. not sure whether i should be trading at all for some time yet though :(

  28. So having read this article and spent a bit of time in FF Genie I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing worth looking at this week on the downgrade front. Heath has only played 1 game so I will still have that option next week and nothing else is of any interest aside from Gumby to Watts but is it worth a trade for $90K?

So in all likelihood I will just upgrade a back with my cash in the bank…I am likely going to get in Fisher who should I trade out for him

Kennelly or Nason? Both were on the field last week. Bench cover is not an issue as far as Kennelly goes with Hunt/Webberley

    OR

do I go all out and spend all my cash reserve to go

    Kennelly > Fisher
    Nason > Hargrave

    What do you guys think?

    • Firstly how good is FFGenie. It is up there with Chooks Rooks as the most awesome place for DT info!

I reckon Fisher is no a brainer. I have already got Hargrave and am hoping his yo yoing will flaten out at the top end! It really depends on what other trades you need to make. Clearly by doing a double you will finalise you backs.

      • Yeh if I do the double my backline and midfield is locked and loaded for the year.

My forwards need some work with Hall/Ziebell probably to go. Downgrading Gumby should get me the cash to do one of the two and if Schuey could come back and play at least one more game I should have some cash to upgrade the other

  29. I had some preconceived thoughts before reading yet another awesome Chooks Rooks. These thoughts are based around the fact I have 5 cash cows I wish to trade in, with the ultimate outcome a keeper back and one G Ablett in the mids. The following players will be traded to achieve this outcome:

Forwards – one of Gumbleton or Ballantyne
Mids – Martin and in time Howlett
    Backs – Nason and Silvagni

So my plan for this week was to bring Sam Fisher in for Nason as that back keeper before his price explodes, 321K with a B/E of just 53 is too juicy. The issue is who to trade out to fund this trade?

    My funding options are:
-Silvagni to Heath and hope he holds his spot – don’t want to do a Warnie with Hughes!
-Martin to a rookie mid who will hopefully get games in time
-Then the forward options either Gumby to one of Watts or Playfair or Balla to Watts (don’t think Playfair and Gumby is a good enough bench pairing)

With the want to get Ablett in mind it should be noted that the best result of these in terms of cash would be, also the most risky, bringing a rookie mid in for Martin ($115K left) while the worst would be brings Watts in for Gumby (just $43K left). However the middle ground could be to bring in Heath (leaves $95K) and hope he continues to get games. With Webberley as the 8th back is this the safest option?

Decisions decisions! Any feedback on this dilemma would be much appreciated.

  30. RE: Saint Kilda controversy

Milne could be out for 8-9…. Months…

    Haha

  31. Really unsure on who to get this week out of Hayes and Montagna.

  32. Tough week here am looking at doing 2 big upgrades and have 500k to play with

In saying this though I have Shuey/ Kaylor thomas who never play

As well as Brennan sitting on my bench.

I am looking at doing Gumbleton to Goodes

    Kennelly to Fisher

Then want Ablett to Martin either next week or week after.

    Thoughts?

  33. Great article Chook

Thinking of downgrading Warnock to Skipper this week. Sure its only $60k odd but it will give me enough money for next week for when I downgrade davis to Nathan O’Keefe and upgrade Hitchcock to a 400k+ premium forward leaving my team complete and 7 trades to ride out the season.

  34. Hi anybody,

I need advice on what to do with Gray..

I have no money in the bank and none of my new cows have ripened yet, so double trade is out of the question.

    I see 3 options
    1. Sylvia (325k)
    Pros
    - is capable of 100s (3 in 6 rounds already and plenty last year).
    - last year averages 93
    - showed last year he is capable of scoring even when the demons get beaten, evinced by last years average of 93
    - my team name is sylvinator, so good to have my namesake in the team
    Negatives
    - is very inconsistent this season and has already had 3 scores around 50. I hate yoyos.

    2. Brown (310k)
    Pros:
    - is priced at only 70, yet is averaging above 90.
    - if he gets over his niggly injury, he is an absolute bargain
    - if he gets on a roll, could hit big 100s
    - he’s a champ and will DEFINITELY get back to hitting 100s… its just about when he does this
    Negatives:
    - isn’t over his injuries necessarily yet. so buying him now would be with the knowledge he might only get back into form in 3-4 weeks.
    - could miss matches with injury

    3. Keep Gray.
Pros- I only have 11 trades left, with 2 set aside for an upgrade of McGuire…. trades could be very important in the second half of the year
    Negatives
    - his highest season average is 70. I thought he’d have a break out year and is just hasn’t worked
    - under constant injury cloud

    • Don’t get J Brown (he is gone, injury ravaged, can’t move on the field)

Sylvia well if you like inconsistent players get him, can pull out the 100, i’d much prefer a a person getting 85 each week.

      • I guess,

But if you look at last season, Sylvia had an average of 95
        - 6 hundreds (including a couple of huge scores)
        - 4 scores between 90-100
        - 2 scores between 80-90
        - 3 scores between 70-80
        - 2 scores in the 50s (round 1 and 2)

        That’s reasonably consistent.

Considering he’s already had 3 crap scores, and he appears out of his form slump, the rest of the season could be smoother sailing.

        Anyone else has an opinion

  35. LMAO @ mdizzle. Some comedy gold there mate!

So to trade or not to trade? Usually one would say if in doubt save your trades but after last week when I decided to hold for a week on Kennelley his donut cost me the Eliminator by 2 points, soo I feel like its a bit of a wasted season now as I don’t envisage too many probs winning my league and I wanted higher glory.

So with 10 trades and $101k I’m gonna wait till teams are announced and barring surprises its Kennelly for Hargreave since he may have turned the corner and with Dogs now starting to ramp up, perhaps some nice points to come.
The other trade I want is to upgrade either Rocky or Taylor Walker to Party Boy Sylvia (due to his handy average, fair originality DT wise and massive scoring potential) but I’m about $3k short. Walkers BE is 34, and Sylvia’s is 100 so hopefully I can pull the trade next week.

  36. 134,300 in the bank. 12 trades left.

    Team is:
Goddard, Duffield, Mackie, Waters, Maguire, Hargrave, Kennelly (Trengove, Davis)
Ablett, Bartel, J Selwood, Barlow, B Harvey, Mitchell (Rohan, Shuey)
    Naitanui, Jolly (Warnock, Lobbe)
Pavlich, Goodes, ROK, S Johnson, Franklin, Podsiadly, J Grant (Rockcliff, Gumbleton)

    Gumbleton > McNeil
Kennelly > Hodge (Next 4 games are all winnable for Hawks and he should chop up)

    then next week

Naitanui > Sandilands (was gonna pick him up this week but an average of 62 vs NM is not enticing, and a BE of 117.

  37. should i start rockliff over jono brown?

    • wait for the teams dude, the decision might be made for you!

      possible big outs this week….

      1. swan(knee)
      2. brown(i hope)
      3. several geelong players (general soreness)

    • Good question – bet you didn’t think you’d be asking that a few rounds ago!
I’m in the same boat and think I’ll run with Brown – not entirely convinced, but he did get a 90 2 weeks ago…
of course, that’s if he plays…

  38. yea thanks guys. i cant see myself benching jono for rockliff. its really sad to see him running around at about 70%, he is one of the best forwards in the game. I want him to have a couple weeks break and come back to score more hundreds.

Far out i hope swan isnt out, armsrtong and shuey on the bench

  39. Playfair…worth a punt consideirng I have Hitchcock (think he will play out the year now) as my other bencher?

  40. hey what do you think is a better option?

kennelly to fisher, duffield or gilbert?

  41. hey chook nice work again mate!! (:
who do you think is the best downgrade option in the forward line??
i hav rockliff and ballantyne and am hoping to turn ballas in to goodes this week.
    i currently hav $53,100 left…

  42. Am thinking about trading in Fisher, but am wary of bringing in Saints players incase they are suspended for making the girl pregnant lol

  43. An Update on Mitch Banner:
Mitch Banner (for Eagles v Central @ Elizabeth) – A very quiet game for Mitch. Carried a bit of a flu into the game and that hindered his running ability. Finished with 5 touches, 2 marks and 2 tackles. Will want to build on that next week.

I dont think we’ll be seeing him for a while!

  44. Wona or Playfair? (job security)

  45. I have a little issue I am hoping Warnie or Chook (or anyone) can help out with. Here is my predicament;

I wish to go Ballantyne -> Goodes and then next week go Martin -> GAJ

To get some money to do this, I wish to trade out Scotty Fumbleton. However, if I trade him to Watts I’ll be rrrrreally risking not having enough to get to GAJ, whereas is I trade Gumby to wona, I am likely to scrape in with enough to buy baby Jesus (just).

I would like to wait on wona, but if I wait the obligatory 2 games, then both Gumbleton AND ballantyne will go down in price with Goodes going up in Price……. Making it hard to get GAJ in the end.
Is wona’s job security and scoring potential good enough for me to buy him after 1 game??

    What do i do?

The other option is to bugger off goodes and get Sylvia, who I think will start scoring much better as some forwards (watts and wona) start trickling back into the MElbourne side allowing Sylvia more midfield time.

    Thoughts?

  46. @chook (and others if they wish),

Hi Chook, got a theory/trade that could use your comment.

Seeing as though rooks are short on supply I have a unique idea i think. In my ruck I have Sandi and Hille (from start of the year, whoot) on the field and they are doing awesomely well. Now I also have Nik Nat pattywack and warnock on the bench.

I have 10,000 grand in the bank, what do you think of the idea of trading nik nat for skipper freeing up 170kish and using it over the next few rounds for an upgrade in my defense or midfield?

Currently i have maguire and howlett on the field. two guys I would like to be upgraded buy the end of the season.

    What do you think?
