Chook’s Rooks – Round 4

Anyone read the book JPod, by Douglas Coupland? It’s a bit weird, but plenty awesome. I don’t know if James Podsiadly is weird at all, but he’s plenty awesome. Awesome enough to bring him in for an under-developed cash cow? That’s the burning question facing those who spurned the Geelong forward and his Brisbane buddy Tom Rockliff from their original squads.

After missing the opening two rounds, JPod, T-Rock and Carlton midfielder K-Luc (too much, right?) have produced eye-catching DT scores over rounds 3-4 to be on the verge of very big pay days. But before we get to the tasty two-gamers, let’s have a look to see if there’s anyone ripe for the picking in the three-or-more games bracket.

Three-or-more gamers

Your dreams of finishing the year with a midfield six of Ablett, Swan, Bartel, Montagna, Stanton and Dal Santo (or something equally kick-arse) are never going to be realised if you cash in your cows for anything less than $100k profit. You’d be hoping for quite a bit more than that, in fact. But DT’s an evil beast at times. While you’re hanging around waiting for your rookies to gradually appreciate in value – $5k at a time – downgrade targets with the potential to make much more keep whizzing past. The trick is knowing when to jump on the gravy trains, cause there’ll be nothing but crapola left when they’re gone.

The choice is an easy one in the backline, with all of the three gamers (here I’m excluding Jackson Trengove, cause you’re mad if you picked him anywhere other than the ruck) still boasting negative breakevens. Richmond’s Ben Nason has got some way to go in particular, with his past three scores of 68, 70 and 78 giving him a BE of -19, despite already rising $86,600. Freo’s Alex Silvagni and Brisbane’s Matt Maguire are in a similar position.

Rucks make for rubbish cash cows, so I’m not even going to mention Carlton’s Robbie Warnock or Trengove again unless they start pumping out 70s and 80s, which is as likely as Calvin’s captain not doing a hamstring this week.

There’s cause for concern in the midfield, with seemingly rolled-gold rookie Dustin Martin so far failing to reproduce his outstanding pre-season form. Martin has made just $47k on his starting price and travels to WA with his Tigers teammates this week sporting a BE of 32. Concern, not panic, is all it should be, though. While we were all expecting more at this point, stick with Martin for a while longer yet. A few 70s will force his BE back down and start bringing the dough that we so desperately need before off-loading his under-performing arse. And the rest of him. Fremantle midfielder Michael Barlow should be back to his high-scoring ways against the Tigers, so his BE of 43 should be smashed out of the park. Other popular rookies Jack Trengove, Tom Scully, Anthony Morabito and Lewis Jetta also take positive Bes into round 5, but none of them are high enough to start considering a downgrade.

Scully was one of the round’s best performed three-or-more gamers, along with Demons teammate Rohan Bail, Geelong’s Mitch Duncan and North’s Ryan Bastinac. Apart from round 2, when the Roos were slaughtered, Bust-a-nut has been delivering very nice scores. Good boy.

The forward line is where most will be tempted to use a trade to make a downgrade. Not only is this the part of the field were many a medium-pricer is doing a number on their coaches, but a few of the three-or-more gamer rookies are already struggling, too. One of the most promising forward rookies, Port’s Cameron Hitchcock, has started to go off the boil. He managed just 32 points last week, nudging his BE up to 17. Essendon’s Scott Gumbleton scored only one point better against West Coast, making his BE 21. That means he’ll go backwards in price if he does as poorly as he did in round one, when he scored a paltry 17 points. Surely, surely that won’t happen again, but the low level of points being pumped out by these two is a worry. You’ll only get $50-75k from a downgrade trade to JPod or T-Rock, but there’ll be plenty pulling the trigger on one of those trades this week. Unless you’ve got fwd-mid option Duncan down here, the only other forward to have featured in three or more games is Carl Peterson, who looks to be travelling okay, despite having his lowest score thus far in round four. You’d think selection pressure would be a bigger worry than Gumby-like scores for this Hawks rook.

Two gamers

Obviously, JPod and T-Rock are the two attracting all the attention this week. Pods took the opportunity granted to him when Cam Mooney got himself rubbed out to such an extent that some reckon he’s now ahead of Tom Hawkins in the pecking order at the Cattery. I don’t know whether that’s more of an indictment on T-Hawk than praise of Pods, but either way it’s clear that the 28-year-old has made a big impression. Whether the Geelong coaches see it that way is another thing, so you’ve got to at least consider the long-term chances of both JPod and T-Rock, who looks set to face selection battles on a consistent basis at the deep Den, before drafting them in. By the numbers, Podsiadly has scored 85 and 115 and comes in at the basement-bargain price of $77,800, while Rockliff has the palindromic scores of 78 and 87 for a slightly inflated price of $101,100.

If you really don’t think Martin is going to come good, then Carlton midfielder Kane Lucas might be your best bet. The 12th pick in last year’s draft, Lucas has knocked up scores of 67 and 93 in his first two. Another option is Essendon’s short speedster Travis Colyer, who has scored 68 and 73 and costs almost $25k less than Lucas ($113,500 to $89,500). Of course, fellow Bomber Ben Howlett remains on the cusp of a price rise too, but needs to get over his ankle injury and back into the side first. The Bombers have a third rookie in this bracket, although he’ll cost a little more due to having been taken in the top 10. Jake Melksham costs $121,500, with scores of 57 and 59 first up.

Finally, there are a couple of defenders in the two-game bracket in Adelaide’s Chris Schmidt and Hawthorn’s Ben Stratton, but, as we said earlier, the fact that the backline cash cows are no where near maturing counts against them. For the record, Schmidt has scored 81 and 60, while Stratton has notched a less-impressive 62 and 41.

One gamers

The Connors booze-and-biffo saw the Tigers debut three rookies against Melbourne – Matthew Dea, Troy Taylor and David Astbury – but none of them managed to light up the DT scoreboard with scores of 30, 46 and 51 respectively. All are listed as forwards in DT, like Port’s Daniel Stewart, who also made an underwhelming start (33). A little better was West Coast first gamer Ashton Hams with 48, but he was overshadowed by fellow backs Phil Davis, of Adelaide, and Simon White, of Carlton. All of Carlton’s scores have to be taken with a grain of salt given they played the officially woeful Crows, but White’s first-up 74 is impressive nonetheless. Davis showed why he was so popular in January with a decent 69.

Speaking of grains of salt – you might want to take my rookie advice well seasoned, too. My rookies copped a hiding from Calvin’s rookies in my big league loss on the weekend, while my captain took his to the cleaners. Go figure.

If you’re downgrading this week, let us know who’s getting the chop and who’s coming on board.

  1. Out Hall in Big Pod Cock

    • People thoughts on either Hall or Hitchcock to Rockliffe?

If I trade hithcock then im only making 40k but am getting a much more reliable player, who IS going to score better throughout the year and by the looks of things will have job security. He will however still sit on my bench as i would prefer to play pods over him.

If I trade hall I make myself 187k which along with my 50k in the bank gives me 237k which I could then in 1-2 weeks time use to upgrade one of my mid rooks to a Dane swan. Heck I could do it this week and trade Martin to Hayes and still have 22k in the bank. Ofcourse doing this rockliffe will have to begin starting on my ground which im o.k with. But with Baz atleast u are 100% guaranteed job security and the guy is capable of big scores, especially considering dogs will start to come into easier games.

      Would love peoples feedback?

    • I’m doing this, allows me then pick up Swan, which I could really do with for captain

      • I’n in a very similar boat. Choosing out of Hall and Hitch to go to Rock.

Hall will play week to week, however if I trade him, with the money I currently have in the bank, I could upgrade Ball to a premium and then in a couple of weeks a rookie to a premium – However then I have to have Rock, Hitch or Gumby on the field week to week.

Or I could trade Hitch for Rock meaning I get an extra 40k and have to choose to upgrade Ball to a premium or stick with ball, wait a couple of weeks and upgrade a rookie to a premium, however would use all my cash in the process. Week to week I would have Gumby and Rock on the bench as emergencies.

Just not sure on Ball atm whether he is going to make that step up like I originally though to average 90+ a game.

  2. nice work chook

just not sure about pods score vs his job security……TRock looks more stable imo

  3. if hitchcock gets dropped, hello rockliff!

  4. thinking of hunt down to davis and then jack trengrove to swan with 215k still in bank thoughts anyone??

    • u serious? hunt still making you money. trengove still making u money. swan can wait…

    • Can’t do it this week mate, Hunt will go up. Davis only played the one game, may not even get pickd for his 3rd if Bock gets back on the park for round 6!!!!
You can also wait a week for Swan as still has be around 120′s, so even with a big game should only go up 5K or so, while Trengove will make more than that easily.
      Wait at least another week!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Could no longer keep the faith with Gumby so dumped him for a new IPod and made a around 73k to boost my bank account to around 155k, which should leave me in good stead for a few rounds to maybe pick up someone in my midfield where I am lacking (Scully,Martin,Jetta cash cows hopefully)… Man I gotta get out!!!
    PS Great info Chook, thanks.

  6. Hey guys thinking about chopping Gumby and up grading the Ballsack that is called Luke to Chris Judd. Does anyone have any thoughts on this trade combo?

    • Baz, definately chop Gumby but I cannot jump on the Judd bandwagon, I dont think he has that form anymore… my opinion!!!

    • Crazy trade, Judd pumped out a good score against Adelaide, that was very predictable.

Coming up this week…. drum roll… the lovely sweaty pink pig. Expect a 80 at best…

Save your trade and let Ball play a full game (he missed late 1st qtr and most of 2nd qtr with an ankle)

    • There is no point in getting C Judd back in just yet, give ball another week and see how Judd does against the cats. If Brock McLean plays except Judd to get a decent score as Brock was winning a lot of the hard ball that Judd is usually forced to win by himself (leaving juddy to get a few more easy handball receives to get him into the game when tagged.

    • Thanks everyone for their comments. Though after some study i’ve now changed my mind thinking about upgrading Ball to Nick Del Santo any thoughts on this trade boys and girls.

      Cheers

  7. Voldt > T-Rock. Gumby > J-Pod

I figure either one of T or J should be getting a game most weeks…

Then I can make 3-4 consecutive upgrades after those downgrades…

I copped a loss in my main league to the player lowest on points -.-

At round 3 I was highest on pts, he was lowest.. He was averaging about 1,200 before round 4 and I was averaging 2,100 -.-

Yet I pulled out a loss -.- Thinking this downgrade could cost me another league loss, but the upgrades will have me catching fast. Yes, no-one cares, but meh.

I wish selwood would hurry up and bottom out..

Selwood/corey/bartel/ablett.. think i prob have to chose a max of 2 of them :|

    • stupid trade, you’re trading a premium in Roo to Rockliff, when eventually you’ll have to use a trade to upgrade him later to a premium… wasteful.

Stop thinking about the cash you’ll have, start thinking about how many trades you’ll have to use to actually bring premiums in.

      • 340k I’m using to bring T-rock in, enables me to make TWO upgrades to keepers…

As opposed to using 1 trade for keeper to keeper..

Then I’d still need a downgrade and another upgrade..

Therefore not costing me anymore trades?

I think either T-Rock or J-Pod will be a 7th forward and not an upgrade player..

If both get regular games well imo, I’ve found my 7th and 8th forward.

        Thoughts?

      • It’d be

        340k for roo > rock
        73k for gumy > pods

        + 143k I have in bank…

        = 556k

Then 230k to Mitch Robinson > Dane Swan.

Then use the money for a bottomed out Joel Selwood and probably find another upgrade next week too.

        • I’m thinking pretty much exactly the same thing (Roo to Rock and Gumby/Peterson to Pods). Yes it involves dropping a keeper now but if you can go bang bang on 2 midfield cash cows without having to downgrade then you have used 4 trades to gain a keeper overall. BUT you will still have the value of your bench mids plus the price rise of Rock n Pods. Plus if Rock or Pods can average 80 then I would be happy to have them as my 7th fwd.

          • From your comments it sound like you’ve traded everyweek, trades are gold come end of season, get rid of Roo but the trade to Pods from either Gumby(job security)/Peterson(still hasnt price peaked) is a waste IMO especially if you have been trading every week.

          • Joker..

I’ve used 1 trade so far this season.

        • You seem a bit obsessed about getting Selwood IMO???

He isn’t really doing much DT points wise and is copping a tag most weeks now due to his ‘valued SC type possessions’ if that makes sense?

You may want to think a bit smarter on who you upgrade to with the Geelong crew – Corey always dodges any tags so those guys may be more valuable to you?

          Good luck.

  8. Worth trading Roberts out for Pods/Rock? I’m 3 trades down…

    • Yeeeeeeeeeees Definately… Roberts is more worried about his stomach than playing footy!!!!

    • I’m in the same boat though only 1 trade down. Seems good in a way but shocking from other views. I’m stumped

  9. Great read, cheers Chook.

I have Relton Roberts (dont ask why). I’m not sure if it would be worth trading him to Podsiadly? Roberts has proven that firstly he will struggle for a spot in a Richmond team, even with four first teamers missing and secondly even when he does play he will do sweet FA. Just not sure if Pods will keep his spot, Bomber Thompson said something about keeping the 3 tall structure while it works.. Therefore if it fails one week, who will go?

    • Same as comment above. Anyway, I’m in the same boat though only 1 trade down. Seems good in a way but shocking from other views. I’m stumped

    • Well bomber pretty much said that Hawkins spot in the side is cemented, they obviously still see him as a key position player for the future. In terms of Mooney V Pods, that all depends on form but if Mooney doesn’t kick straight (high likely) and Pods continues to take strong grabs on the lead then I can see Pods getting a game over Mooney.

You can also bet your bottom dollar Pods is going to every training, being on time, listening to the coaches and really trying to keep his spot in the side whereas there are some rumors that Mooney is taking his position for granted. That could lead to bomber sending him back to the VFL for an attitude check, regardless of form.

Also Pods will get atleast two more games (this week + next) because I highly doubt Carltons crappy backline is going to be able to account for three strong bodied tall forwards (and I’m a blues supporter)

  10. Injuries … Boyd Kerr Shuey…

and a no show from a bloke with a name almost as long as the three put together … Kaylor Thomson …

… has the midfield in tatters. Depending on whose names I read on Friday I’ll either get a donut or play for scores and miss the pay date with JPod or TRock.

    Shit shit shit shit poo.

    • trade an underperforming mid priced fwd down to pod/rock, then upgrade ker to a premium?

    • If you’ve got a strong back line with good bench cover and quality MID/DEF (Goddard/Hodge), trade in Mitch Farmer (dual DEF/MID) in your MIDS then you have swap coverage – ie sub Hodge or Goddard into your MIDs for the round to cover the injury and bring one of your DEF bench cover onto the ground. This is the how to exploit the dual possie players.

  11. Thinking of trading medhurst to pods then upgrading ball to swan. This will leave me with 15 trades and around 120k in the bank.

Or instead of trading ball I could trade jordie mckenzie, but he hasn’t stopped rising in price yet. I was going to wait and with the leftover 120k upgrade mckenzie to Joel selwood. Leaving my midfield as swan, bartel, okeefe, selwood, cooney and barlow. This would leave my midfield complete and with 14 trades left. My bench is trengrobe and Martin.

  12. patto…. yes

  13. Pods is doing my head in. I want to trade him in because I can’t shake the thought of him eclipsing my forward so called ‘mid priced improvers’. Early call, but perhaps a keeper.

In two games he’ s played, I wouldn’t be surprised if his position in the team has become more secure than Hawkins or even Mooney. Having said that, the three of them together is a huge headache for the defensive structures of the opposition. Add to that Stevie J, Byrnes, resting Bartell and Ablett in the forward line at their feet and teams are going to have a hard time with their matchups. I can’t see why Thompson wouldn’t persist with the approach.

Having said that, the 46, 70 and 70 he scored in the preseason may become the norm for this stay at home forward, relegating him to humble cash cow.

Either way, I’ve asked my girlfriend to change my password and not tell me the new one until after lockout. I’ve got to stick to my game plan.

    • haha i was thinking exactly the same things as you did with the geelong gameplan. its pretty obvious hes not going to keep up this average, but im sure he will still score decently to make you enough cash. hey, i would be happy with an average of 70 :) and yes i think his spot is pretty secure, dont kno why people would say he would get dropped. come into the side and kick a bag both games and get dropped?? haha

I like the girlfriend idea by the way ;) keeps the temptations away

  14. Shuey out, if he’s injured, for Lucas or Coyler/Howlett( whoever gets selected/cheapest)

    Gumby out for T-Rock.

    Any comments?

    • bit crazy with rock as he is lucky to be getting a game. gumby will play all year. Great emerg
I’d keep shuey to, you cant trust a bomber

      • You can’t be serious that gumby is a “great emergency”!!!!!!! He is an “emergency” at best. i used him for this on the weekend for 33pts, hard gr8…………..but obviously better than a 0. (Other option was hitchcock, so at least i got that choice right, 33 v’s 32pts……….haha).
He is not going to make much more money at this rate either, will peak around 180K at current average.
I don’t care how highly Essendon rate him either, if he keeps struggling he will go back to the 2′s just so he can get some confidence!!!!!
Hopefully with some good midfielders back his supply might improve also.
Don’t forget Gumby’s 76 is out this week and his 56 next week, needs a big game soon of will go backwards!!!!!!!!!!

    • Shueys only out for two weeks. If you can cover him for that long, then his value will continue to go up for a couple more weeks after return, then youll be able to upgrade him to a premium

      • Good call. Shuey might go to the milking shed at say 12 weeks when other opportunities arise. But I need to milk somebody soon as some good bargains are emerging.

    • Don’t get Lucas, still a few quality ins to come for Carlton and I don’t see him keeping his position to long with all those turn overs.

  15. Thinking of…

    Gumby -> JPod
    Tippett (and cash) -> Pav

Then wait for my rooks to mature before I start thinking about my injury-riddled midfield.

  16. Hitch–>Pods for obvious reasons.

Was considering Shuey–>Bastinac to save a couple of 0s (Banner is other cover), but probably wont anymore as Shuey is only listed out for 2 and Mitchell will more than likely play. Would still make lots of cash and wont rule it out.

    • How will this make lots of cash? Hitchock to Pods will net you about 60K and it will take almost all that to go up to Bastinac from Shuey. Have you lost your freakin mind mate?

  17. I’m thinking Hitchcock > Rockcliff / Pods, leaning towards Rockcliff because I think Rock’s job security is better. Hitchcock’s playing the Saints and I can’t see him getting anything decent and I don’t want to miss out on Rockcliff.
Pods looks like a better player but I can’t trust the Cats.

  18. heys guys, would really love some advice on a plan i have for the next two weeks.

    this round i can go:
    mcveigh >lucas
    voldt > pods

then in round 6, i will be able to go
    Hall > any premium
    R Roberts > any premium

is this a good idea, or am i using too many trades?

  19. Right…. it’s friday arvo just before round 5, finally gonna drop the Voldt. Who’s in?

I’m already sporting Rockliff and Pods from the start (risky but it’s paying off now), gRumbleton (he made me grumble week 1), Brownie, O’keefe, Higgins, Hall and Giansiracusa.

I’ve got 377K in the back pocket… after some opinions to stop my head doing itself in.

    Thinking Pav/Goodes/Chapman/Harvey… I’m after a keeper

    cheers

    • Well obviously Hall or Gumby has to go i’d go pav or goodes to bring in as chappies hammies will no doubt twang at any moment

    • Yeah you have to trust your decision of going with Hall. Plus hes not going that bad – will prob pick up once the dogs start playing better. So i would be going to either Pav or Goodes (leaning goodes) Well done on having pods and rocky. Should you maybe trade Dumbledore to the other though?

      • I would drop Gumby except I’d still have Voldt on the bench not playing, and Pods and Rockliff aren’t guaranteed to play either. Thats at least 1, possibly 3 forwards out, not to mention injuries. It saves me trading later. I don’t think Hall will increase much, the dude doesn’t chase balls like brownie, he puts up a tent and camps. He’s probably next to be sent back to reserves for me.

Good to hear it would be Goodes. Thanks

        • Love Goodes…. He was my replacement for Volt. I like that he will be consistent in scoring 90+ and he get sbetter as the season roles on, i’ve watched all the swan games and he is effortless in getting his DT scores and if he can bag a few goals (120). Less likely to get an injury over the others around his price. Go the Swans.

  20. man the burning going on in this room could take down the roof.

  21. defiantely going hitchcock to pods, but considering going gumbleton to rockliff, i have only used 1 trade so far, so using 3 trades by this stage right now.

with 130k in the bank should enable me to go bastinac to cunnington and shuey/martin to swan come cash culling time

  22. Does any1 know the formula for Players price rise. I don’t care about the magic number I just want the formula

  23. Trading out C.Cornes this week, have no idea why I picked him up in the first place. Should I trade him for Waters, Nason, or Davis? Opinions?
Also, is it worthwhile using a second trade to get Lynch out of the forward line for J-Pod? Ive already got a full playing onfield forward line for now, not sure if its worth burning another trade at this point, ive already used three, the cornes trade will be my 4th.
Help is needed desperately, I only scored 1738 this weekend :S

  24. What is everyone’s thoughts on trading Tippett out of the forward line for Podsiadly? I figure trading Tippett out now makes sense and I can used the cash I have left over to upgrade another player to a keeper down the track as well as making money on Pods as his price increases?

    • Makes sense bro

      • I think I’m going to do the same thing. I was hoping for Tippett to become a keeper but seeing as this won’t happen and the fact that his body is broken (but no enough to get dropped) we have to get rid of him. I think Pods will eventually topple KT’s current price, which will drop further – so the many money banked means the trade probably should be okay unless Pods gets injured or dropped in the next few weeks.

    • After such a price drop, I can’t see myself trading Tippett out – I still expect him to start playing better once the Crows can actually get some better movement back into the forward line and he will at least gain his value back. Risky though with the way the Crows have been playing but the $$ loss vs the his potential and me using 3 trades already means he’s in for the long haul.

  25. should i……..

    downgrade bazza hall to podsy/rockliff
    then upgrade masten to swanny?

ive only done the one trade (roo)

  26. Thoughts on Bastinac anyone??

    • You’ve missed the train/Start him over martin/scully/trengove/jetta as 6th mid/ I’m hoping he can reach peak at somewhere round 300k or more if im greedy

  27. Is there anyone f**king out there NOT BURNING TRADES?

f**k me, what is going on here. I’ll do one though :)

    Pods in

Hitchock / Gumby out who would you choose?

    Tough choice

    • Not tough. Hitchcock on the brink of getting dropped. Torch him if you have to torch someone.

      • I dont think you know what you are talking about with Hitchcock.

I hope people dont take these opinions as ‘truth’ when we have no idea about the working and plans of AFL coaches and clubs. Anyone saying ‘oh Hitchy is about to get dropped’ is talking from their ass and guessing, for the sole reason of trying to justify wasting a trade going from Hitch/Gumby to Pods which is a huge waste of trades obviously (for the sake of $50-60k and a guy you hope keeps getting a run).

If you cannot see that then you are not going to do very well this yr and you ARE GOING TO RUN OUT OF TRADES!

  28. Thinking I better get in on Hitchcock to Pods, but it’s thinking about a possible second trade that’s giving me the most trouble.
I COULD trade Ball to Swan….
Ball could possibly achieve his BE of 96 with a full game against Essendon this weekend, but it’s pretty lineball, I wouldn’t put money on it.
Swan has a BE of 126 or 127, which he could actually achieve, but again, tough risky call. Looking at his next few games though, he could really smash it in the coming weeks…
Maybe I’m being premature with Ball? Maybe I put my faith in him to come relatively good in the next few weeks? Perhaps I should hold off for Martin to make lots of money and try to upgrade him to Swannie.
Then again, perhaps I should jump on Swan while I can, and enjoy the extra points from getting him in my team so early in the season.
I’m leaning towards getting him in because I’ve only used 1 trade (and I already have 90k in the bank which is nice), but I’m interested to hear some other opinions. I imagine there are quite a few in the same situation…

    • I have the same trade running through my head Ball to Swan I have the spare coin but I still danno. I am very 50/50 on the trade cause I know how important it is to save your trades and I had to use 2 last round when Reiwoldt got injured and Tippett was pissing me of far to much to keep. Im going to miss the Pods boat. I hate that im going to miss it but having used 2 trades earlier than I had hoped I will just have to suck it up. But in your case Hitchcock to Pods looks good

    • I’m in a similar situation. Looking at downgrading Warren to Pods and considering upgrading Ball to an ultra premium. already got Swan so looking at the likes of Hayes, gibbs and selwood. These 3 should all go down more than ball goes down this week so i might hold off that trade and see what happens. Best case scenario Ball lifts his games, and upgrade Martin in a few weeks.

      • Yeah im in the same boat brothers,
Got enough money to go ball >> Swan…
        Will Ball lift? Not sure…
Will Swan have a Massive year like last year? More then likely…
Dont Know, Hard choice for me…

      • Hmm yeah. I noticed Ball is getting pretty shitty TOG, and I reckon Swannie definitely looks in for a massive year. Especially considering Collingwood’s last SEVEN matches are at the MCG (typical….) and Swan doesn’t have the injury/resting risk Gary does I don’t think.
Otherwise Selwood looks pretty tasty ‘ey… I haven’t seen his breakeven this week yet.
Maybe Ball to Swan now and try and get Martin to selwood in the next few weeks…

  29. Tippet to Pods.

    Shuey to Judd.

Have to get off the Tippet wagon now. Just causing me too much pain.

  30. I was thinking of downgrading Masten to Bastinac and either Medhurst or Hall to Pods (already have Rockliff)
    Any comments?

    • You’ve already missed out on Bastinac, he’s risen too much for Cash Cow status

      • havent missed out, it will make me $100000 to downgrade Masten to Bastinac and looks like Bastinac is going to average more than Masten, an upgrade to a better average and making me money at the same time. Anyone agree?

        • These sort of things can really bite you on the bum. On the other hand, your logic is ok. I don’t think anyone will agree with you however.

          • I think the idea of trading what was a possible keeper to a rookie is a good one. Once you realise they must be upgraded you might as well go down to a rookie to make some cash before you upgrade later. Only problem with this trade is the value of getting Bastinac. I’m doing a similar thing of trading Tippett (no longer a keeper due to injury affecting form) to Pods. I prefer that sort of trade than a med-price cash-cow down to a cheaper cash cow – you’re not getting the best out of your cow and burning a trade at the same time.

          • Also, the reason that trade might not work is that you’re trading low and buying high – there is not enough value in it

          • If you guys think downgrading Masten to Bastinac isnt a profitable move, with the money I make from downgrading Medhurst to JPod you recon I could upgrade Hall to Betts? Better move? Ill end up with a more stable forward line but didnt really acheive the goal of making lots of money for future trades.

          • @azzdawg
DON’T trade Hall to Betts, you will be sorry. This will not make you anything and will lose a trade. Both cost the same, Betts has had 3 good games against richmond, essendon and crows, BUT look at his score against Brisbane as more of an indicator as to how he will go against the better sides.
He will be against better defenders and have far worse supply when the Blues play against better sides.
As for Hall he will have a run of 3 or 4 really good games when the Dogs fire up, trade him after this. He will hit at least 330K at some stage this season imo…………….

          • Thanks guys, your ive taken your input on board. But might go with the origional plan of Medhurst out JPod in, Masten out, Bastinac in

  31. Seriously tempted by Pods, not so much by Rock. Will decide thursday whether to downgrade one of danger or hall to him or possibly Hitchcock if he gets dropped and im feeling trade happy. Hall might kick, actually adelaide are so rubbish at the moment he will kick a bag so thats a reason to keep him, i like points, and my league opponent has him. Downgrading danger gives me enough money to bring in both Didak and Gibbs/Hayes next week when they bottom out but i also want Hargrave and I’m reluctant to trade this much so early, decisions, decisions…

  32. hey guys, any advice on the trade of josh hunt down to schmit (spelling) from adelaide having maguire and nason on the bench, then putting maguire on the field as he is scoring the same?

  33. I know this is the question everyone is thinking about but Jpod or Rockcliff, which one is the best long term option

    • Probably rockliff to be honest, I can’t seem him getting dropped.

Hawkins support is secured regardless of form which means pods has to beat out mooney for the other tall spot unless the three prong attack keeps working (which imo, it won’t)

  34. Dangerfield to Rockliff, so I can go Tippett to Cox.

    My Crows are killing me.

  35. • Ryan Bastinac or Mitch Duncan? (getting rid of ball)

    • Leon Davis,Dane Swan, Brendon Goddard or Chris Judd? (getting rid of Armitage)

by the way t.rockcliff and j.pod i picked at the start and they have paid off

    • i have both ball and armitage and happyish with pts per $, and am keeping the faith!
Ball rolled his ankle, had limited TOG, still got 62. Jolly came good now its bally’s turn!
Hoping Anzac Day can bring the best out of him, (and his tackling)???!
As for Armitage, gets 90 odd every second week, and seems to accumulate pts in bursts. Unsure of his TOG in the lower scoring week, might pay to find out.
Lyon was so talking Armitage up preseason. Plus Saints have played Coll,Syd,Improved Freo, so can see him scoring better and more consistent against the weaker sides.
Yes, you’ve done well with pods and rockliff originally in your team, but i fear you may be slightly negating this advantage, with your intended trades!
If, more like when, Coxy is back to his best, surely you’d want to trade him in.(prob rnd 7)
Same could go for Hargrave(rnd8), Didak etc…… There’s potentially 3 trades there.
If you’re so keen on trading, i guess Duncan or Bastinac, to Goddard or Swan.
      Good luck!

    • Not sure of the benefit of trading either of those guys at the moment as both appear guaranteed starters.
All players have a run a good scores somewhere during the year.
Think you may have already missed the best part of the boat ride with Basta and Duncan. There will be more rookie mids to come…………..

  36. Jpod or Rockcliff?

    • im going Jpod, not because the extra $ made, but after watching him 2 weeks in a row, he can take a strong mark, moves well, can obv. kick goals.
Adds new dimension to forward line! imo Hawkins could be the one under pressure, sure he is the future, but bomber wont hesitate to drop him if pods outperforms him.
Lastly, the home ground advantage at skilled is HUGE, and Pods could go nuts there!

KEY FACTOR- As long as S.Motlop is on LTI list, (wasnt even on injury list-im sure overlooked).

      • Agree with you re this, especially about Hawkins. Maybe the future, but a premiership is first and foremost in the Cats mind!!!!!!!!!

  37. K-Luc (cluck), you could not find a more appropriate nickname to put into Chook’s Rooks. Love it!!!!!

  38. Gumby or Hitcock to Pods? I’m generally pretty trade happy in the early part of the game and I’ve decided no. My preference would be yes. The following contributed to my decision:
1 Gumby. Keep Gumby. He’ll get every chance to come good. Whether he is good enough to come good is the obvious question.
2 Hitcock. Hitcock is a lemon…a pathetic NAB Cup champ that doesn’t have a clue how to get the footy in his hands. Tell him how to do it Choco! If he was just a bit fatter, it would be a no-brainer, but he’s not. He’s a skinny, bony hyperactive cow that won’t fatten up.
3 Pods himself. I thought about it this way. If Moon or Hawk were $80k in the draft, would I select them? The answer wasn’t an automatic yes.
Having gone through all this, I haven’t got a clue what I’ll do if Hitcock is dropped this round.

    • Massive waste and still a risk of the player you are picking up actually getting a game. Better saving the trade, man people have lost the plot.

      • Read it again hypo. I’ve put forward the reasons why I’m NOT trading. I can’t possibly understand how you could misinterpret this.

        • Sorry mate a replied to the wrong post. No hard feelings.

Dont get too upset its not that big a deal.

          • I agree with your point about not knowing about selection policy at each of the individual clubs. You would assume that Gumby’s form doesn’t warrant selection. His form is not the point. Despite Pods going ape in his first two games and seemingly undroppable, there’s no guarantee that form is the sole issue regarding his selection (or game time) considering that they have invested in both Hawkins and to a lesser extent, Gamble.

  39. If you wouldn’t take Mooney priced at 80k there’s something wrong with you.

I’m pretty much set on ballantyne to pods, with the idea of using that money to upgrade pods to a keeper in 3-4 weeks. Basically a standard 2-trade upgrade, except split over a few weeks. I think Gumby has money left in him and burning a trade on sidewaysing Relton Roberts is silly. I can make my upgrades without that slot being useful.

I don’t believe in Lucas’ job security and I trust Shuey to get back once he’s fit, and Martin to find a good score eventually.

  40. Off topic, when do we find out our eliminator opponent?

  41. Hitchcock –> Pods

I figure Pods’ form gives him insurance for reselection after one bad game, so if he doesn’t do well against Carlton this week he should still be selected for the Richmond game and, well, we all know how shite their backline is. So that means he should get another game. By this stage he would’ve had that 100+ he scored against Port calculated in a couple of price rises, perhaps he can get another decent one in there and all of a sudden you’ve made the $100,000 which justifies the trade. Who knows? If he has a cracker against Richmond he could make that in a single price rise.

While Rock maybe has the edge on Pods in job security, Pod has:
    (1) lower price ($30k!)
    (2) better scores so far for first couple of price rises (100avg v 82.5)

From a purely cash-cow perspective, I rkn Pods is the go.

  42. Need some advice, here’s my Fwd line-up:

Brown, O’Keefe, J Kennedy, Ballantyne, Dangerfield, Podsiadly, Rockliff
    Emg: Ziebell & Tippett

Got $22,600 in the kitty and am looking at offloading one of the underperformers (ie. Tippett, Ziebell, Dangerfield) – any suggestions?

    • Brett Burton for Tippett could be a good move. Birdman has got a 101 and 85 last two and seems to be the only Crow playing decent footy. If he can score like that when the rest of the team sucks then he could be a nice pick-up if/when they improve.

  43. First time DTer here.

How do you know if a rookie has peaked in price?

    Cheers

  44. Pods is a tasty prospect but apparently has a minor hamstring strain and hasn’t trained with the main group this week. Could be a non-selection or a notorious “late-change” this week.

    • where did you get this info from

    • Can you please show a reference if you’re gonna say stuff like that. Cheers.

    • Um, he’s sick. My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Pods pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.

      • Guys/girls,
Not sure if this is legit or not, but did watch the game on tv and saw him take a diving mark on wing near 50m mark and grab at his hammie in 2nd half of game. Didn’t do much else with it and still took kick and played out game.
I am looking to trade him in too and have no idea whether someone is trying to f**k with people or not. Would expect him to play though given he played out the game.

        • I’m skeptical of any unsubstantiated injury reports. I’ll wait to see it on the team sheets with my own eyes.

Not doubting your credibility Corio Bay Buoy, but…

The rumour may at least stop a few pulling the trigger on the trades too early. For me it’s not a problem, I have no password.

  45. A bit of advise please. First year DreamTeamer here.

I’ve got a couple of rookies who don’t look like getting a game anytime soon. Should i use a trade for another rookie who is about to go up in price or should i just wipe their spot in my team off for the season?

    • in my view you must utalise all your bench positions (except in my view the second ruck as rucks make useless cash cows)

if they are forward rookies then pods and rocklif the obvious choices their are also quite a few options, however their looks to be no real good options in the backline

who are your rookies that arent playing by the way

      • I have Dylan McNeil in the forward line and Matt Lobbe in the ruck. Lobbe may get a game soon but McNeil hasn’t been mentioned at all. I had Pods from the start and am definitly looking at Rockliff.

My backs and midfield are ok although i have Shiels from Hawthorn sitting on the bench doing nothing.

        • i assume lobe is your 4th ruck with warnock as 3rd so that not too bad, to be honest i have never even heard of your forward so cant really say much if you just picked him up because he is only 77k then you shouold trade him to rockliffe, if you havent used to many trades. But if you have some inside info that people arent aware of and you think he will play than keep him

          • Nah, no inside info, just needed to fill a hole.

Thanks for your help. I’ll be bringing Rockliff in for the mysterious McNeil

  46. Hitchcock or Gumby to Pod or Trock. Waste but i need it since Hitchcock and Gumby are my 7th forward, and they are too inconsistant and 30′s really do cost me games (as shown last week). The other option is to trade that useless hack of Relton, however sideways trade and i just dont like it. Opinions please;

  47. What are people’s thoughts on going Seaby to Cox this round, since Seaby be is 108 and this may be one of the last weeks Cox will go down in value

    • who is your other ruck?

    • thats a really tough one i dont think cox has bottomed out just yet as still doesnt look 100%, if it was anyone besides seaby i would say no, but watching the games it looks like mumford will be getting the number 1 spot (he is on the higher paid contract, which i would assume indicates that they plan for him to be the number 1)

may friend has seaby and i told him to get in cox, however i see both coming down in price over the next few weeks

      • If you want Cox for Seaby and can afford it now then go for it. They have a similar breakeven but Cox will surely outscore Seabs this week so his price will go down less. Therefore if you do the same trade next week it will cost you more.

  48. Hitchcock -> Pods

Hopefully he’ll rise sharply in price / get consistent scores >60…

    1. will be a good back up forward if any of my other starters get injured/suspended …
    2. Later in the year can upgrade him to a premium

    Thoughts on my plan anyone?

    • im doing it, i think it will pay off if pods can get at least another 3 games, you get 70k for the trade and therefore if he play 3 or more, his price should rise about 130k, which would make 100k each trade

  49. Danger to Pod
    Tipp to Sandi

    Thoughts?

    • i would keep dangerfield, have you got hille if not i would go tippet to hille

    • is there anyone else you could trade other than danger to get the coin? if not do it cause Sandi is this years cox – A must have in the rucks

      • Not really. I have Gumbleton and Duncan but neither of them are ready to be traded. Ziebell is my next worse forward on the field and I think he is a better scorer than Danger. Pretty much just getting Adelaide players out of my team.

        • If you have to pull the trigger I’d trade Ziebell over Danger, just cause I think Dangers neck crunch has pulled down his last two scores. Having said that, think they both have a bit of an upside. Toss a coin, either way you’ll probably be kicking yourself later ;-)

  50. Could Martin be viewed as a KEEPER? (permanent emerg)
And I ask the same of, Nason or Hunt,(backline) and Ziebell or Balla?

    • i would be happy with them as bench cover, but if you save plenty of trades then if you are able to downgrade them to cheapo players, then you can have a really strong team come finals

      • Yeah, i just like the idea of trying to have both on the pine playing, so when Geelong rest Ablett and Bartel in the same game i couls say avoid a doughnut, would be happy with 60s from say martin and shuey.
I have Banfield as other mid rookie, but hes fattening nicely and sure to be upgrade! (even to Mundy, 113 games in a row! only $306
One would think Zeibell will play all 22 games, possibly Hunt too!
1 trade so far, Cox,(bad mistake having him in originally), to yep, of course the living “orange cream buiscut himself!”
In fairness, it was on the back of his 127, & has left me with $313,000 in the kitty.
Going Roo to Pods-diddly-iadly, as my sole trade this round! (18 trades left)
Other mistake was to have Mcevoy as original starter!
hopefully he doesnt get a game or only 1 more before round nine and i will trade him out for coxy +$150,000,
and rucks set as Cox,Sandi, Seaby and Warnock!(17 trades left)
Then will still have enuff $ to upgrade 3 rooks to Premiums!( 14 trades left, say by start of rnd 12.)
Hoping Hargrave picks up again, but not before bottoming out, say $260,000ish, could be straight swap for 1 of Ladson/Hunt/Nason/Waters!
To think 1 or 2 injuries/suspensions and all the above-OUT THE WINDOW!!!!!

    • Its still early in the game and early in the season for the players and especially the rookies. Rookies would be the most likely to end up as keepers for you if they improve their averages over time. Based on their current scores, Martin’s average as a mid is well below what you’d need as adequate cover come the end of the season. I think most people that have him are looking forward to him fattening up and then trading him for a premium. Hunt has never been a keeper and is unlikely to be one this year. Nason, like Martin has the potential to be a keeper, but will be sold off by most. Zbell and Balla? It’s anyone’s guess. Their inconsistency would concern me if I had to keep them as backup. Another thing to remember is that people give their advice about certain players and who to trade and who not to trade, but they don’t know the complete makeup of your team. The aim of the game is to get as many premiums as you can as quickly as you can without using trades haphazardly. Ultimately, how you go about this is determined by you initial team selection and injuries.

      • I agree with you all the way.
Just going throught diff. thought process to try maximse upgrades, without having to downgrade cashcows to rooks who may not be there to provide the all important cover. thats why in happy to get 50 and 60s now and hopefully no doughnuts later as a result of trade preservation.
I had that many doughnuts last year, had to get a gym membership!

        • I’m hopeful that one or two new def rooks turns up soon like Pods and Rockliff have. I’ve got a couple of $250-$350k players that are going ok but not great who I want to trade for a couple of rookies. Apart from the cash cow to rookie trade, that’s how my team enables me to get extra cash.
