Argggg legends – welcome back to Calvin’s Captains. It was a weekend to forget for this captain picker who failed to hit. Gulden 127, Zorko 125, Crisp 108 and Marshall 105 my only success stories. Anyway, these things happen and this week I’m super confident despite only having a handful of players we can chose from.
Good luck this weekend you bunch of legends and if you haven’t checked out the work we do over in our patreon space, make sure you do. Even give it a glance to see what you’re missing.
CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS
No. 1 – Gawn v NTH
@ MCG, SAT 7:30pm
Gawn is coming off scores of 148, 122 and 152 to be the #1 man in the game based on form. This year he has six over 130 and three over 140. Now, Xerri isn’t a push over. Gawn went against the Goldy/Xerri combo last year for 97 and rucks this year against Xerri haven’t found it overly easy. Max returns to the MCG where he has averaged 128.5 this year from nine games. Yes, that’s not a typo and it looks like this… 148, 152, 109, 92, 134, 149, 107 and 137. Those scores are off the charts.
No. 2 – Flanders v FREO
@ Optus, SUN 4:00pm
Coming off scores of 163, 113 and 122… Flanders ranks at #2 on form and has averaged 114 this year, barely putting a foot wrong. Half-backers against the Dockers have been pretty solid is recent weeks with Bramble (134, 10m) and Dale (110, 7m) being great last week. This guy never lets us down and has an impressive ceiling.
No. 3 – Walsh v GEEL
@ MCG, FRI 7:40pm
When these teams met in round seven, Carlton scored 6×100+ on the Cats and as we know this is a thing that has been still happening. Walsh scored 102 in this match-up in round seven and is coming off 79, 133 and 114. He has the ceiling and could be huge here… but his low’s can be low. He could also cop a little attention from Blicavs.
No. 4 – Gulden v GWS
@ ENGIE, SAT 4:35pm
Gulden is #3 on form averaging 132 in his last three games. He only managed 98 in this game earlier this year but last year, Gulden scored 132 (away) and 116 (home) against the Giants. The problem is… GWS are tough for MIDs and only Will Day (109) and Max Holmes (116) have hit 100 against them in the last five games.
No. 5 – Zorko v PTA
@ Adelaide, SAT 1:45pm
Firstly, this is away from the GABBA where he has only averaged 96 on the road this year. Lately, half-backers have been great against the Power with Whitfield 120, Newman 108, Fisher 112, Amon 96 and Guthrie 104/Holmes 101 all doing well. The match-up suits… his form is great… and if this was at the GABBA I’d be so much more confident.
HEY CALVIN…
Can Zach Merrett be an option?
Yeah of course… but Merrett’s top scores this year are 135, 125 and 125. Max Gawn has five better than his best, maybe the ceiling of Merrett is a thing of the past? He plays at Marvel where he has averaged 95 from four games this year. 8. Few flags…we have better. But at the end of the day… it’s Zach Merrett!
Can we give Luke Ryan another shot?
Ryan scored a season-low 69 against the Suns last year but they have been giving up points to some half-backers… Sinclair 117, NWM 93… Nic Martin 97… Nic Newman 95 were all solid most recently. After 70 last week… he’s only a VC only for now.
Taggers?
James Jordon will go to Whitfield like he did in round 8 and held him to 48. Neale will cop heat from Drew like he did last year in the Qualifying Final and was held to 67. Heeney is also my tip to be hunted by Bedford who did the number on Butters last week. Heeney has kicked 21 goals this year to Gulden’s 9… he cops it based on this alone.
Grundy a VC option?
What about Salem as an vice?
Considered it. Definitely the sort of match up where he could pop off.
Ignore the downvotes, many kids salty that they’re nubs.
Hahahaha
It’s a pleasure having Erol.
Is that your pet name for a certain body part?
No, that’s Presti.
Named so after their similar rate of scoring.
Clayton Oliver is finished as a fantasy asset, maybe as footballer too.
Thoughts on Serong being captain this week I need a POD player as my opponent took a VC on Gulden :(
