CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS
No. 1 – Marshall v WBD
@ Marvel, THURS 7:30pm
Coming off 138 and 136 the match-up for a ruckman doesn’t get much easier than this. Marshall scored 116 on English last year and has now averaged 130 in his last three games. Recent rucks v English have scored 68 (Goldy), 90 (Stanley), 70 (Williams) and 81 (Moyle). Easiest VC you will have for the year. If you are an owner… enjoy.
No. 2 – Merrett v ADEL
@ Adelaide, FRI 7:40pm
Last week, Walsh 145 and Acres 109 scored with ease against the Crows and Merrett hits them with some ripping form. He had his lowest score for the year last week of 104 (awesome), and adding to that, he managed 150 against Adelaide last year. He scored 135 at Adelaide Oval earlier this year and will be awesome again.
No. 3 – Steele v WBD
@ Marvel, THURS 7:30pm
The great man is averaging 121 this year, another easy VC right here. Steele has a lowest score of 108 this season and last week against the Bulldogs… Duursma 124, Caldwell 108 and Zach 104 all scored well. Steele had 118 against the Dogs last year and if you don’t have Marshall or Merrett … here is your VC.
No. 4 – Sheezel v HAW
@ Marvel, SUN 4:00pm
Sheezel went nuts last week with 159 (15 marks). He is averaging 129 for the year and hasn’t gone under 120. The Hawks are the #2 easiest team to score against this year and have giving up the equal second most 100+ scores behind the Eagles. Finn could be a concern though. Last year Sheezel had 75 at half time before Finn came knocking. He finished the day on 112, with final quarters of 6 and 31.
No. 5 – Dunkley v GEEL
@ GABBA, SAT 7:30pm
Geelong are #3 easiest to score against so far this year which is amazing… for years they have been a red team across all areas. Last week, Sheezel 159, Scott 115 and Powell 113 were among six players to hit triple figures against them, despite getting beaten by 90 points. Dunkley is coming off 123 and 114, and even scored 112 against the Cats last year. GUN!
OTHER THOUGHTS
Hot Hot Ando
A huge 154 last week has caught my eye which now means Noah Anderson is averaging 118 for the year. He scored 94 and 78 against the Swans last year and when the Eagles played the Swans, Duggan 125 and Yeo 108 both did very well.
Off his bye… Nick Daicos
Port are tough. In fact, they have restricted teams the most this season giving up the least amount of 100-plus scores. This is at the MCG though and last year Daicos scored 86 and 117 against the Power. Should be fresh off his bye and ready to fire but the match-up doesn’t suit.
Gulden and Weasel against Gold Coast
The Suns are tough to score against, they haven’t given up one score over 120 this year. Gulden had 127 before his bye though and only posted 88 (Touk tag) and 99 against them last year. The Weasel (Heeney) is averaging 120 this year and even had 108 and 127 in his last two games. He’s running hot but meets the team that have given up the second least amount of points behind the Power. They should be fine, but it’s a tricky one to roll a captain into.
Thank you Cap
Walsh or Green?
Glad I didn’t take No1 or No3 ;)
Should start taking advice from someone that knows what there talking about. Sorry Cal but you not the best person to take advice from.
Boy oh boy /one thing we do know is that the Traders bite every time to criticism.
Haha … no, we don’t – we usually do it to take the piss – which most of the time is what we are all about if you actually listen to us and the tone we do things in (all part of the fun / act).
Or we do it to defend ourselves when dumb people make dumb calls. We learn every day there are people that don’t get it – or just want to be prick.
Type of bloke who will complain about getting free food……Scale of Hardness and weekly Captains article for free is amazing. Everyone else charges a fee but these legends make me laugh and provide great material
put the VC on Steele, but i guess at least it gives me an easy decision not to take his score..
on the flip side, i am concerned that Sheez hot run will put Hawks (Finn) on notice, so considering Zorko against Cats who don’t play tight lock down type defense and generally like to pressure through the middle, allowing for some cheap +6s (Sheez, Scott, McDonald, Fisher, Comben, Nyoun, Powell and Corr averaged nearly 10 marks EACH)..
God bless you, Calvin.
Any love for Serong? He went ballistic earlier this year at Optus. I’m going to roll the dice with him against the toasters.
Not a bad call.
Jack Macrae looks juicy but need to see what his role is with Libba back and Sanders in the starting lineup, actually their coach is Bevo so forget it.
Brought him in for his first game against WC. Traded him out before the next round.
You don’t need Bevo in your life mate.
