Matt Crouch vs Jy Simpkin | AFL Fantasy 2024 Head2Head

Two value midfielders are up next in Bails’ Head2Head series with Calvin as the special guest!

Join me and special guest Calvin from The Traders in the next head to head battle between value midfielders Matt Crouch and Jy Simpkin. We discuss each player in depth and talk about their pros and cons, give our verdict on who we would pick out of the two players, and if we are keen on starting either player in our side.

Matt Crouch

After having a couple of seasons not being in Adelaide’s best 22, he came in for an injured Rory Laird in Round 19 last season and didn’t look back. In his six games to finish 2023, he went 82, 105, 120, 103, 101 an 74 points for an average of 97.5 across those games. You can even look at that final score as a bit of an anomaly as it was a dead rubber game with not many stoppages which is what the Crows love to do. Even if he averages 97, that’s still a solid pick as he is priced around 81, that’s 16 points of potential upside and he may even go around the 100 mark like he has done on a number of occasions.

Jy Simpkin

After having back to back seasons of averaging 95.5, Jy Simpkin had a tough year in 2023, with a few injuries and poor scores meaning he only averaged the 75.8. In a rebuilding North Melbourne side, there are now a few names running through the midfield, led by LDU and other guys like George Wardlaw, Will Phillips and Tom Powell which meant that Simpkin went from 83% CBA’s in 2022 down to 60% last season. That is affected a bit by injury, but North could prioritise the younger guys, or because Jy is one of the captains he stays in there with LDU and they rotate the younger guys through there? North’s midfield mix is going to be one to watch this preseason, but at under $700k, is Simpkin has the role, he could be a cheap option you consider.

I am a lover of all sports, especially the AFL. Some of the teams I support include the Adelaide Crows, Manchester United, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Rams just to name a few. I am also a big fan of fantasy sports, particularly AFL Fantasy and NFL Fantasy.

Great listen guys thanks. I agree totally with all comments, same as Cal its Crouch for me, but if I need the $50k I will be swapping to Simpkin.
