Arggg me hearties… what big week in terms for captains. My top-10 averaged 123 this week, with my top-6… averaging 131. With so many guns issing, this would have been one of my best captain picking week’s of the season.
This is how they went… Laird (111), Gulden (145), Dunkley (120), Brayshaw (129), Merrett (109), Dawson (172), Serong (102), Daicos (120), Crouch (116) and Marshall (108).
Now that I have had a little “me time” make sure you check out the full and extended Calvin’s Captains over on our patreon site. Over there we are kicking goals with some cool content which includes out KNOCK-OUT competition that starts this week.
#1 – Tim Taranto v BRIS
@ GABBA, THURS 7:20pm
We all know his form is elite and I’m be the biggest flog if he wasn’t at #1 this week after scores of… 147, 129, 130, 145, 120 and 129. The Lions have been giving up points too with Sinclair (130), Crouch (116), Steele (104) all great last week and prior to that we saw Parker (126), Gulden (108) and Rowbottom (104) all score well.
#2 – Jordan Dawson v KANG
@ Adelaide, SAT 1:45pm
Firstly… I’m not chasing his 172, but more of the 125+ scores he gets with ease (three in the last four weeks). Dawson scored 129 and 120 against North last year and at home this year, he has averaged a solid 113, hitting 100 in seven of his eight games. Coming off scores of 172, 105, 128 and 135… this could be nasty.
NOTE: Kangaroos are #2 easiest for MIDs. Recently against them we have seen some big scores. Bontempelli (158), English (134), Treloar (113) and Libba (106) had a day out and prior to that we saw Toby Greene (111) and then the Bombers… with Merrett (155) and Martin (111).
#3 – Bontempelli v FREM
@ Marvel, SAT 1:45pm
Just slips in behind Dawson here… just. The main reason was the fact that Dawson plays the #2 easiest team for MIDs at home. Bont is averaging 127 in his last three games, Bont has been in ripping form with a lowest score of 108 in his last seven games. The thing is… Bont loves playing the Dockers. He scored 148 against them in round 6, and 145, 83 and 125 before that. Bont ticks all the boxes here and if you want to move him up my order… I won’t argue against it.
#4 – Tim English v FREM
@ Marvel, SAT 1:45pm
English had 129 on Darcy earlier this year (in Perth) even though he rates as one of the hardest rucks to score against. English has been going along at a good clip with 134, 76 (Lycett) and 158. Strongly consider as a fall back option.
#5 – Jack Sinclair v WCE
@ Optus, SUN 4:40pm
Can hit big scores, and for that reason alone he is above Crouch… and has done this twice in the last five weeks with 130 and 141. Those scores though are his only scores above 120 this year, which is what we are hunting for in this match-up. His form certainly warrants a spot in my top list and the match-up only confirms it.
OTHERS TO CONSIDER…
Brad Crouch v West Coast – Crouch had 147 on the Eagles last year and is coming off 116 (Bris), 109 (Rich) and 123 (Syd)… and this match up is a whole lot easier. I like Sicnalir’s ceiling better, but there is nothing wrong with brad here.
Rory Laird v Kangaroos – 111 and 124 are his last two scores and he had 92 and 129 against the Roos last season. He has scored 124, 131, 101, 110 and 118 at home in his last five and rates very highly this week against the Roos.
Andrew Brayshaw v Bulldogs – Goes for his ninth straight score over 100 this week, after having 129 in round 15… his first score over 120 in his last four. Brayshaw scored 114 at Marvel in round one, and has posted 99, 121 and 109 against the Dogs in his last three.
