As we settle into upgrade season, we finally got through a round without too many injuries! But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any carnage… It’s time for your weekly fantasy therapy session, it’s time for the Weekend Wash-Up.
LEGENDS
Baz (145) – There’s coaches who own Bailey Smith, and then there’s coaches packing it up for 2026. When you’re spending up, you’re spending up for pure thirst, hunger, greed for the football… piggish like tendencies… L5 137. Beat bont by 117. Nothing further to add.
Grundy (130) – The Ruck Pig is all the way back. 27 disposals and 37 hitouts in a genuinely dominant performance. All that needs to be said about this man is with a few minutes left the Swans had Heeney, Warner and Mills on the bench and Grundy stayed out there. With 3 seconds left he got us a tackle and then kicked the ball out of mid air to take his tally to 130. This is three 130’s on the trot! Gun.
Daicos (128) – It was underwhelming until Q4, but that had to be one of the greatest quarters ever played! 39 and a goal including that 47 point last quarter where he put the team on his back and said come with me. Hopefully the cheat tagging we saw in the last 15 minutes doesn’t return.
Houston (110) – No kick ins is a major concern long term, but Collingwood like to hold possession and Dan will still score well. Just don’t get carried away with what he can average, he goes in that R14 bye.
Newman (101) – At half time I thought we were in for a classic Nic Newman 140, before he went missing 2H. If he does that at his price it would be a game changer, he’s a great value upgrade target.
Jezza (141) – That 10th goal was awesome and he’s just dominating once again this season, always a great draft pick.
Richards (133) – Finally, vindication! If only Ed could produce scores like this early in the season, if you held this was just reward and a miraculous recovery.
Ash (114) – I will forever find it hard to trust a man capable of a 20, but Lachie Ash enjoyed 8 CBAs in the 2nd half… One to watch. He has been great. Whitfield (101) owners will be hoping it’s a permanent move!
Merrett (151) – Zach loves playing the Suns and just loves playing dominant fantasy football in general. He’s now averaging 111 with a L3 of 127, are we surprised? We shouldn’t be.
Roberts (117) – As soon as Essendon slow the ball down, pencil Archie in for a quick 30 points. Elite role, elite player, top 6 lock.
Parish (109) – OK… I’m sitting up and taking notice. As Essendon look to control the ball more, it allows Darcy to add transition scoring to his great stoppage work. That’s consecutive games with 80%+ TOG and CBAs which is significant, priced at $769k… I think you can do it. This is why people started him!
JHF (126) – 28 and 2 in a classic dominant JHF performance, featuring 60% CBAs! The bag is back.
Butters (125) – 35 and a goal, was trading him out a good call two weeks ago? I’ll tell you after this week… MJ Mullin is to come. (Butters has been awesome!)
Wilkie (130) – 31 disposals and 12 marks! 3 kick ins. Averaging 113.4, and he hasn’t left the field all year. Immense and impossible to keep ignoring.
Milera (117) – A huge score for his owners, coming thanks to 29 and 9 marks. 100 L3. A massive score like this is all you need if he’s ticking it over most weeks, great pick.
Worrell (114) – Speaking of great picks… Temu Wilkie. Worrell is awesome!
Sheezel (136) – Just the lazy 39 and 1.3 for Sheez, it’s safe to say he enjoys playing Richmond. North will have plenty of Sunday afternoon games and he’s always a safe captain option to fall back on.
M.Reid (106) – Averaging 83 thanks to this score, smashing his BE and instantly making him a home run pick. Murph Reid is a gun.
LOSERS
Lombard (31) – I don’t like to point the finger at rookies as losers… But come on, let’s be real here. Leo Lombard looks lost out there, managing just two kicks out there against Essendon. Just give us a 50 mate. I continue to be shocked he gets picked, his one percenters must be great.
Dovaston (24) – How can you do worse than that effort. I had the luxury of looping both Lombard into Dovaston against THE TIGERS. And it cost me points. In a 75 point thumping, Lachie Dovaston managed 6 disposals and 1 tackle. One. That was meant to be his one-wood! Back to the VFL with you brother.
Jaques (46) – Was Jaques really ‘managed’ last week, or was he dropped? Because he has gone from looking awesome early, to a liability. How he dropped a 112 on my head for everyone in Round 1 is looking like a bit of a pisstake at this point. He’s gone for me, the locker is already cleaned out.
Bont (28) – Man oh man… What a shame this is….. Things you just hate to see. Seriously though, 86% TOG, 19 CBAs, and Marcus Bontempelli can’t manage to take one mark, lay one tackle, and produces the worst non-vest affected score of his entire career. It can’t be denied, Ocean Mullin is the Michael Jordan of taggers. MJ Mullin. As for Bont, he has the jozzler coming up this week. He even resorted to Nick Daicos levels of faking injuries to excuse this performance, just a total disaster. It might be harsh but this is why he will never win a Brownlow.
Darcy (22) – Just devastating.
Cmac (66) – The role is what it is, but Cmac let us down this week. I was hot on him too, so apologies if anyone went there. He will be fine, but it’s annoying.
Rankine (70) – Unless he’s getting 50%+ CBAs, I don’t want any part in owning Rankine. I’m not even sure he’s value.
Rachele (67) – 81% CBAs for this score is bitterly disappointing, I’m just concerned about the fact he may be playing himself out of the midfield and into the forward pocket. Needs to lift next week.
TDK (37) – Undoubtedly one of the most bizarre trades in AFL history. Over paid, over rated and has ruined Romo. Without wishing long term injuries upon anyone, I wouldn’t mind seeing Marshall get a proper run at it as R1…
Taranto (30) – Grim. At least in draft you don’t have to worry about his BE.
Banks (1) – Banks was already a draft disaster, I just hope your league pays up for the premium features allowing TOG% to be replaced. It should clear a path for Retschko to play a good block of footy on the wing.
Windsor (48) – It’s the last time I’m mentioning him. Never to be spoken of again.
Bailey (39) – Zac… Contract year Zac… You could almost singlehandedly pinpoint this effort as to why Brisbane lost to the Dees. Embarrassing stuff and I hope you didn’t chase a POD here.
Brayshaw (64) – Seriously, I was at the game and totally forgot Andy B was playing. Is he OK? What the hell has gone so wrong?! It’s a draft train wreck and I don’t know how we ever trust it again in Fantasy, at any price. Disaster.
THIS GAME SH*TS ME
How good is that first month of the season when everybody just wants to go head to head and not worry about…. Tagging. Because that is over. James Jordon is in career best form, and now we have the MJ of taggers Mullin holding our uber premiums to TWENTY-EIGHT POINTS.
This game is hard enough with injuries, forced trades, bad picks… Our best players getting taken out of the game by a bloke not even looking or wanting the footy? It sucks, just let the boys play. This game sh*ts me.
THE OTHER BITS AND PIECES
2126, 9.2k for the round, 4.1k overall. Not too shabby when you consider I had a bloody 24 on field in the forwards and I have a $1.1M llama just collecting dust. It sounds like Timmy won’t be back again this week so that’s brilliant news, best of luck to the Bulldogs while they bin their season.
I finally have some straight forward trades this week, as it’s time to cash in on a rookie (Jaques) and upgrade Robertson. I am tempted by the bag (The Horn Bag) but I think I will be playing with a high elbow, through the V with McInerney. That Round 12 bye up forward with no backup rookies is a major concern.
Jaques -> Retschko
Robertson -> McInerney
Best of luck next week legends, let’s hope we can settle into upgrade season with no more forced trades!

Oh the pain
Thats all.
Great read Matt :)
Bont has killed my season and his Brownlow hopes in one game.
Me too
McInerney, JHF or Pickett?
Pickett (match up vs more pressure in a trainig drill) JHF then McInerney
Good question as looking at the same. You could throw in Rowan Marshall also if TDK is going to be out for a while.
For me JHF looks good at present but the Rd 12 bye is inconvenient and he has had a few recent injury concerns so its a No for me. McInerney is going well in a team going well, is a bit cheaper, with lower ownership, than Picket but not sure has the same ceiling and only average score Vs Dogs last year. Picket price is high, not unique, but he could feast on the tigers this week and even be a VC/C option. Marshall is dirt cheap and should ton up in games TDK not playing, should put up price and even be a VC/C option Vs WCE but is a likely trade out down the track.
So I am thinking Picket and Marshall(wo TDK) best short term score picks with Picket and McI good keeper season picks and Marshall a bargain throw at the stumps. Await TDK injury news but my team not going well so could take a left field or lower ownership punt.
I think if your going OK and have the budget I would add Picket. I would only go JHF if you are good for Rd 12 bye players overall and in your forward line. Not easy decision but having both Picket and McInerney in your team eventually would look good.
Good luck.
Jmac for me considering the byes
Matt
How does Jaques…defender only…get to Retschko…Midfielder?…I do not get it but if it is possible it would suit my AFL fantasy team nicely..+
DPP, i had Serong + Blamires in midfield
how do we feel about paying up for Anderson vs getting an extra 100k for Retschko?
dont like it
How’s the rest of your cash gen going?
I think you do it if it helps you get the player you want. If Anderson makes another 400k, then Retschko only needs to make 300k more to break even since you bought him for 100k less. Ideally you get both, otherwise we’ll be relying on unknown rookie potentials to pop up later.
What a fortnight that was.
Starts with bringing in Gawn for English instead of Grundy. $210k for -20 points week one.
Then Robertson, Budarick, Miers and Watkins out of my forward rotation. In come Zac Bailey and Dyl Moore for a combined 114 and a week’s suspension for Moore. Not to mention Bont…
Held Robertson to loop Daicos’ VC score, now I need Lombard to sit at F6 so I can replace Moore with a real player, as my F6 has to be one of Lombard (spud), Dovaston (spuddier), Robertson (injured) or Watkins (dropped).
Had to hold Windsor one more week last week, might have to miss Angry Anderson entirely just to bank the extra $100k via Retschko. Can’t wait to see which forwards go down during the week this time!
Can’t face the idea of bringing back Parish two or three weeks after trading, already did the same with Steele but it’s one of them seasons…
Going backwards in the rankings every week and barely clinging onto a spot in the top 30k, where’s the delete team button?!?!
Help me, Kozzy vs Richmond, you’re my only hope!
How did you read my Fwd line? Unless NWM magically gets TPP to Fwd, I’ll never have him in my team while I spend every trade trying to find 6 Fwds to get on field. I had to choose one of DevRob, Dovaston, Lombard, Budarick & Watkins for F6 last week :(
This week it will be another pair of Fwd trades – I am tempted to trade in anyone called Marshall!
2 options:
1. I trade Bont as he may be injured and will be tagged, moving him to NVM or Heeney. My other trade will be dev rob to probs Pickett or mcinerney.
2. Keep Bont and trade Jacques to retschko and leave 304k for an upgrade next week.
Leaning towards one as Jacques is still making money while Bont is going down.

Hopefully, team news will make that decision for you, but either way

I had bont as well so he’s listed as a test but with him in the first game and bevo being bevo he could all game be at full forward and on managed minutes or a late out.
Worst case he plays and drops another poor score and he looses another 90k.
So I’m trading Bont and fixing my second ruck to get Grundy in as he will have another day out with the ruckless Bulldogs.
With Heeney out, could that mean Warner spends more time forward ? Tossing up between him and McInerney!
