The Weekend Wash-Up Episode #39 – The Worst Trades in Fantasy History?

A wise man once said that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. This is an article and podcast worth tuning in for.

A wise man once said that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Just wait until you hear what went down this weekend, this is an article worth tuning in for. It’s time for a MUCH needed fantasy therapy session, it’s time for the weekend wash-up!

Legends

B.Smith (149) – What a bloody hero. The rest of my team is so sh*t, but week in week out this guy is busting a gut to put a 120 on the board to drag us to 2000. He rolls out of bed and has 30+ disposals, 5+ marks, and this is his 4th game with 8+ tackles. Standing ovation, and a player the rest of my rabble needs to look up to and admire. He has to be skipper next week, keep setting the example Baz.

Richards (131) – Press red for Ed. Going with the role has paid off in spades here, and the Bont returning has only helped him. He’s one of the top rated players in the game and a 90 point 2nd half was just brilliant to watch. Richards is now $979k with a BE of 69, L5 107. Huge.

Clark (134) – Yuck. I mean, great fantasy score, but yuck. It does feel like Clark should do this more often though, and he’s cheap. He is replicating last seasons trend.

Ryan (122) – God it was fun when we owned them, but having being forced to sit through consecutive prime time Fremantle games, it’s no wonder Ryan and Clark got banned from chippy chippy last year. Honestly Luke Ryan looks, moves and plays like an ammos footballer at times. If you want a man to slow down the game, here’s the guy. Not interested no matter what his price.

Brayshaw (119) – Great bounce back and Andy has been great, just get the ball on those lead boots more son.

Crisp (119) – We see this every year. Collingwood rest their stars and send Jack Crisp into the guts for a month to dominate. I’m not saying you should do it but….. You could. He was epic.

Cameron (113) – A genuine star of the comp, he goes to show ruckmen can come on late. Come home mate.

Marshall (116) – 8 marks!!!! That equals how many marks Rowan had taken in the previous 5 weeks. It was a second half stoppage fest, but the 75 point 2H might be a sign that he’s back. He looked much better, and he’s bloody cheap.

Steele (109) – God it’s a tough watch, but he had his usual 20 disposals and 9 tackles again. If he ever remembers how to find the footy, he has a massive ceiling. The fixtures are juicy, starting with Eagles next week.

NWM (108) – 30 disposals and as usual Nasiah just gets it done. It’s a shame he went off injured briefly, it looked like it was going to be even bigger!

AFL 2025 Round 09 - St Kilda v Carlton - A-59366399

Martin (141) – I refused to watch the Bombers play, but owning nobody from a team that plays 80% of the game in their back half feels like a miss. Nic Martin joined in the junk for 38 disposals, showcasing his high ceiling after a few down weeks. L5 107 and a must have top 6 forward.

Setterfield (125) – Amazingly, Setters was the main CBA guy (most on the ground), something I dodged NOT expect with Caldwell returning. Fair play. After an unbelievable performance and a big win, you’d have to say he is there to stay.

Reid (118) – Brian Lake put on the Zach Reid suit, he even had kick ins… You’re bloody welcome everybody. What a joke.

Blakey (117) – How about leaving some for Bicey and Roberts?! The Liz went off late and apparently passed a concussion test, but he’s a watch for next week. Bice could benefit big time if he’s out.

Libba (140) – That’s how to come back from a stinker! Who was it that said trade him out…? It can’t have been me. Gun.

Kennedy (114) – He just finds a way to get it done, this week with 19 disposals, 8 mark, 8 tackles and 3 goals. Averaging 98 on the season and 106 in his last 5, he is about to be a million dollars… A MILLION DOLLARS. What a pick.

Dale (105) – I wonder if he left his hotel room… Priced at $882k with a couple of nice fixtures before and after his bye, he’s a great value play if you can’t get to the top.

Green (133) – 37 disposals, huge CBAs, but the key was Green was back involved in transition with 7 marks. That makes his L6 110 and he’s my top priority this week. He can be a 110-115 guy and is a lock for the top 8 midfielders in my eyes.

AFL 2025 Round 09 - Geelong v GWS - A-59430007

Holmes (118) – Talk about an overdue score, Homma continued his all or nothing trend. 30 disposals including 40 points in 5 mins in the last helped him to a quarter pounder, now if we could only turn those 70s into 90s please Max.

Zorko (137) – Zork was super man in that last term with 52 points, and had a disgusting 39 disposals and 8 marks for the match. Just massive.

Xerri (116) – The 73 point 2nd half helped X to another massive score, this time in a tough matchup. His fixtures are about to light up green and he’s looking ominous. A monster score is coming…

Rozee (122) – DPP is on the way and that makes Rozee close to a must for our final teams. I need to get him in.

Peatling (117) – I don’t think it’s out of the question that Crouch stays out of the side and Nicks just rolls with the Peatdog in the middle for the rest of the year. In that case, he could be a 100 guy… Hugely risky, but high reward as shown by this score.

Gawn (113) – A lazy L5 of 130 if you don’t mind Max. LEGEND!

Bowey (109) – That role is here to stay and I think Bowey is closer to a keeper than some realise. Genius pick.

Pickett (107) – CBAs, tackles, goals – Hmmmmm Kozzy Pickett seems like a nice undervalued option? So predictable.

Langford (95) – 22 & 3, when I look at some of the rookies I own it makes me sick to my stomach seeing how good Harvey is. Gun.

AFL 2025 Round 09 - Melbourne v Hawthorn - A-59373413

Losers

Newcombe (67) – How about that green mile. Eagles, Richmond, Melbourne. L3 87. Epic. Looking like a mid-season pick up for a reason again, and I paid $100k extra to get him over Trac, just a disgracefully average player. Yes he was tagged, and no I don’t know why you would tag Jai Newcombe, but regardless he’s a 100 guy at best.

Oliver (41) – No no no no no… Shoutout to Goodwin for making this game unwatchable and ending my weekend before it began. I’m actually not sure whether to blame Clayton here though, as Goodwin put one of his best ball winners into a tagging role on Newcombe as they lost by nearly 40 points. 13 disposals and no marks is just pitiful stuff. I would usually say if I trade Oliver this week he will ton, but I can give you a written guarantee that will not happen. Cya Clarry, hope you’re feeling better.

J Daicos (70) – An abysmal 17 point 2nd half ruined his score and he was simply a victim of the 5 day break combined with Freo’s chippy chippy keepy off game that hit levels never seen before in the third term. I don’t blame Josh for falling asleep.

N Daicos (67) – Daicos got breathed on by Corey Wagner in the first term and he was suddenly acting like he had taken a shotgun to the hip in the second term. He should have stayed at full forward the entire game, his only points were when Collingwood got the ball out the back. Piss ant. Yes, I traded in Daicos this week if you hadn’t picked that up. Please Nick, be better.

Long (67) – Has done a job up until this point, but this is why it’s dangerous to chase these players once they’re $600k. They can be on the chopping block 2 weeks later.

Hewett (80) – 26 disposals, poor score. What do you do here? Back him to be a 105+ guy? Georgey is in trouble, but has still been an awesome pick. Luxury move.

Macrae (75) – Oh dear… 1 tackle?! Macrae’s average is back to 101 and things are not looking good for me. He is suddenly looking slow and sh*t again.

Cerra (72) – 7 CBAs, less than Lord. Who even is Lord? What does he look like? He gets until the bye given how much of a shambles my team is, but this is so poor.

Garcia (64) – 14 CBAs, 79% TOG, 11 disposals…. Ross I think you know what to do.

Boxshall (38) – The Saints new whipping boy, Boxshall played under 50% TOG and wasn’t even vested. He may as well have been. Harshly treated and heading straight back to the VFL.

Merrett (80) – 19 and 2. A classic Merrett tag performance, I just don’t love that they give up and send him to FF. Never pay top dollar for these guys that are a tag away from disaster.

AFL 2025 Round 09 - Essendon v Sydney - A-59381208

Caldwell (72) – 13 CBAs and clearly just needs to work back into it, he will be an option soon enough.

Co.Warner (41) – Time to go (last week).

Cleary (37) – It has been fun Caiden but I think you’ll be plying your trade in the VFL next week, his time is well and truly up.

Day-wicks (27) – Says it all.

Anderson (82) – $952k with a breakeven of 127, I always say the Noah Anderson experience is rarely a pleasant one and once again this season has proven it to be true. Yuck.

Briggs (63) – PEOPLE WERE TRADING HIM IN?! I hope they enjoyed watching him get stuck on the bench in the last according to the commentators, who were clearly unaware that for 3 weeks in a row Kingsley has decided Briggs to be literally unplayable when the game is on the line. 63 points against Mark Blicavs. This is an all time fall from grace, and I know for a fact Kingsley is weighing up just not playing a ruck at all. It’s that bad.

Neale (63) – Absolute shocker, and you’d have to say Lachie Neale is priced fairly.

Dawson (78) – Clearly his worst score of the season, yet he had 86% CBAs?! 14 disposals is shameful, but take solace that last year this was a 50 point game playing out of the goal square. Move on.

Lindsay (44) – Wave goodbye.

Hustwaite (30) – New rule. You don’t trade in players for $500k that can get tactically subbed. I haven’t got much right this season but after dealing with enough of these spuds, the ban on Hustwaite was fair. Do as I say, not as I do.

Daniel (57) – OK, it’s time to have a serious small potato discussion. I jokingly mentioned it last week, but in the 3 weeks since Sheez moved to the backline Caleb is averaging under 70. That includes 20 kick ins. He could be dropping 50’s!!! Most of us don’t have the luxury, but if you have a good team….. Absolutely send this spud packing.

AFL 2025 Round 09 - North Melbourne v Brisbane - A-59432661

This Game Sh*ts Me

When it rains it pours. I could see how my weekend was about to unfold from the moment I traded in king piss ant Daicos and he got sniped after Corey Wagner simply stood on him. I’ll repeat, Corey Wagner. I was without any loop option and didn’t own Daicos, who owned Freo. That couldn’t have been anything less than a 120?! To get him, I had to trade out Kozzy who was back to being a 60 guy and Zach Reid because hey, he is a key back who might make another $50-60k.

As soon as Daicos dished that effort up I knew what was coming next, a Kozzy ton was written in the stars. And then to cap it off I called the Zach Reid ton before it happened. Because why wouldn’t he have 20 disposals and 10 marks in a half. What a game… Yep, this game sh*ts me.

AFL 2025 Round 09 - Fremantle v Collingwood - A-59348409

The Other Bits and Pieces

2008. In Round 9. I haven’t made an actual upgrade for my team yet. Again, it’s Round 9. This is the worst team I’ve ever crafted and I’m somehow ranked 3.8k. It’s a total disgrace and honestly I don’t even want to look at it let alone sort my trades for next week. There’s too many blokes to rage trade for that to be a fix either.

Before I get into looking at next week, we need to have a serious conversation. Forget the grade, are we saying these are the definitive two worst trades in AFL Fantasy history by somebody trying? They have to be.

Amazing stuff. Onto this week and Clarry can get so far gone from my team it’s not even funny, then I have to figure out what the hell is wrong with Jayden Short. Is Kiddy Coleman a chance? Do I just go early on the Poo? I honestly have no idea.

Clarry -> Literally anyone in the comp

Daniel? Short? Cerra? Rookie down? Don’t copy or listen to me anyway.

Be sure to tune into this week’s podcast, it’s embarrassing and honestly it’s a right laugh. That’s why we play the game. If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry… I did both. See you again next week legends when we go through this pain all over again.

My worst ever trade was in Naicos’s first year, I traded him to Aaron Hall. Classic Hall got injured on 12 in the first 5 minutes and Naicos outscored him by over 100. I was a chance for a hat before that…
