Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 23

The priate is on fire! Who will you be putting you VC and C on this week?

G’day legends – welcome back to the greatest captain advice in the land and you have certainly come to the right place. VC and Cs should be pretty clear cut this week and with those who are playing draft, you still have plenty of great options with some teams having real juicy match-ups.

No. 1 – Tristian Xerri 168 💥
No. 2 – Rowan Marshall 140 💥
No. 3 – Errol Gulden 69 ❄️
No. 4 – Lachie Whitfield 71 ❄️
No. 5 – Andrew Brayshaw 81 ❄️
No. 6 – Dayne Zorko 86 ❄️
No. 7 – Zak Butters 108 🤏
No. 8 – Jack Steele 99 🤏
No. 9 – Harry Sheezel 123 🔥
No. 10 – Jack Sinclair 116 ✅

Last week was great for the captain picking pirate. Yeah ok… the top-two saved me but hopefully you got one of those guys and their thumping scores up there. After that it was pretty slim pickings but I’m sure you all followed and enjoyed those big scores at the top.

This week is rather predictable. But that’s a good thing. If we are hitting these ‘good areas’ each week, then lets not change the formula too much. Good luck and I hope you nail a ripper.

CALVIN’S TOP-5

🏴‍☠️ 1 – Xerri v WBD
@ Marvel, SUN 1:10pm

No Tim English means this could be nasty. Now… we have seen all this before and it doesn’t go the way we planned. However, in the last three week’s Xerri has averaged 84 from just hitouts and tackles alone. Xerri even scored 129 against English in round 16 and is going for the Fantasy Record of 4×150+ scores in a row. Could easily do it again.

AFL 2024 Round 16 - North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs - A-51445810

🏴‍☠️ 2 – Marshall v GEEL
@ Marvel, SAT 7:30pm

Rowan scored 118 against Stanley in round one and in games Stanley has played we have seen scores of 76 (Jackson), 118 (ROB), 103 (Grundy) and 92 (Gawn). Add to this the form of the great man who is coming off 140, 131, 135, 118 and 150. He has averaged 125 in his last six under the roof and sits as the No. 2 man in the game based on form behind the great Xerri. An easy VC option leading into X on Sunday.

AFL 2024 Round 01 - Geelong v St Kilda - A-46521452

🏴‍☠️ 3 – Whitfield v FREO
@ ENGIE, SAT 1:45pm

Brisbane at the GABBA was always going to be a challenge so let’s ignore his 71 from last week. Prior to that he did have 137, 127, 145 and 132. Whitfield heads back home where he hasn’t gone under 100 this year and averages 117. Marks are the key here and last week he only took 2. He’ll get back to his double-figure marks and another 120-plus.

AFL 2023 Round 14 - GWS v Fremantle - A-40095032

🏴‍☠️ 4 – Bontempelli v NTH
@ Marvel, SUN 1:10pm

Bont is coming off 126 and 135. He scored 126 (0.3g) against the Roos in round 16 and is back under the roof where he has averaged 118 in his last nine games with scores of 135, 100, 126, 142, 93 and 159. Now… North are tough and on their day they can be restrictive, however, I’m expecting Bont to explode in this one!

AFL 2024 Round 16 - North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs - A-51420837

🏴‍☠️ 5 – Sinclair v GEEL
@ Marvel, SAT 7:30pm

This guy ranks at No. 4 on form averaging 117 in his last three games with scores of 116, 132, 104 and 110 in his last four games. He has averaged 114 at Marvel this year and has now hit 100 or more in his last nine. He has averaged 8 marks a game over the last month and this is a matchup we keep chasing and Sinclair ticks all the boxes.

AFL 2023 Round 23 - St Kilda v Geelong - A-42178019

ALSO CONSIDER…

Noah Anderson meets the Demons who have given up plenty and recently to…  JHF 141, Boak 118, Houston 115, Rozee 113, Butters 108…. Bont 135, Treloar 116, Dale 114, Poulter 112…. Peatling 133, Whitfield 127, Callahan 121, Daniels 116,… and that’s over the last three weeks.  Huge somkie who could go 140.

Tom Stewart only had 85 against the Saints in round one and is coming off his first fail in a long time. Last week against the Saints last week, the top scorers from Richmind we’re all defenders. He’ll bounce back this week and he could be over 120 once again.

AFL 2023 Round 08 - Gold Coast v Melbourne - A-31554333

Marshall’s 131 is exactly the “awkward” score that the Traders were talking about on Thursday night.

Are we looping or holding off for X erri to go gang busters?

So tough,,. especially since my league opponent has the C on Xerri and didn’t have the V on Marshall. So it is very risky to take Marshalls score
