Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 21

Six of his top-10 captains last week were in the top-10 players for the round… this pirate is on fire!

You might have heard… or maybe you haven’t…. last week my captain’s were on fire. This is why you are back in here, for another edition of Calvin’s Captains. This week, as always, you can find my top-10 with further details and explanations on our patreon space which is rocking at the moment. Great fun and once again, thanks to everyone that has been on board this year!

Now… even you haters out there must admit that those numbers are pretty bloody elite. Six of my top-10 players last week featured in the top-10 players for the round which is…. elite. This week, Treloar is the obvious stand-out option and after that…. I had some difficulty ranking them. But after hours of work… this is how they sit for round 21.

CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS

No. 1 – Treloar v MELB
@ Marvel , FRI 7:15pm

The obvious No.1 option and he will be the most popular VC option this week by a mile. Last week, GWS had 6×100+ against Melbourne and three guys went over 120. The Giants simply racked against them with Callaghan (36 disposal), Green (34) and Whitfield (34) all having over 30 disposals. Treloar is coming off a 40 possession game and 125 and 149 in his last two. He’s a no brainer here.

AFL 2021 Grand Final - Melbourne v Western Bulldogs - 892653

No. 2 – Xerri v RICH
@ Marvel, SAT 1:45pm

Xerri has had a dream run of easy match-ups and has cashed in with 156, 124, 94 (Grundy), 118 and 129. He has averaged 118 at Marvel in his last seven games and really taken his game to a new level. Nank returns this week and recently we have seen ruckman like Sweet 91, Briggs 140 and Jackson 104 score well against him. Xerri has easy access to points and is a great option once again.

AFL 2023 Media - North Melbourne v Richmond Match Sim - 1029951

No. 3 – Whitfield v HAW
@ Manuka, SUN 1:10pm

In round 13, Whitfield had 123 against the Hawks in Tassie and returns to Manuka where he has had 105 and 120 this year. He has averaged 134 in his last five games and 128 in his last eight with 127, 145 and 132 coming in his last three games. Based on form alone and the fact he’s back at Manuka, Whitfield must be high on the rankings as the highest averaging player since the byes.

AFL 2024 Round 13 - Hawthorn v GWS - A-50683961

No. 4 – Flanders v WCE
@ Optus, FRI 8:30pm

Flanders doesn’t mind playing away and has averaged 114 away from his home track this year. He is coming off 113 and 137 and even had 112 against the Eagles earlier this year. Easy match-up for a guy in great form.

AFL 2024 Round 07 - Gold Coast v West Coast - A-48251947

No. 5 – Marshall v BRIS
@ Marvel, SUN 4:40pm

135, 118, 150, 106 and 119 is unreal form. Marshall has averaged 117 under the roof this year and meets Oscar on Sunday, a man he posted 105 on in round 14 at the GABBA (with Tom Campbell). Monitor to see if Tom Campbell is named on GFriday cause this change things here.

AFL 2024 Round 04 - Richmond v St Kilda - A-47064567

Former No. 3 – Sheezel v RICH

Sheezel did sit at No. 3… until I saw that Jack Graham was named. Now… I might be jumping at nothing here but risk is risk and he needs to be moved out of the list.

SMOKIES TO CONSIDER…

Especially for those in Draft… here are some options that could get you a league win this week…

Brodie Grundy – Pittonet 72, Moyle 85, English 131 and Marshall 119 are the last four rucks to battle Sweet… and by the looks of that, Grundy should go very well. He’s been great the big fella and will be again!

Reilly O’Brien – Draft smokie captain right here. 112, 100 and 110 is great form. But it’s the match-up against Blicavs/DeKoning which is the exciting part after Xerri (156), English (116) and Cameron (146) have completely dominated the Cat Combo in the last three weeks.

Tom Stewart – An option. Coming off 124, 125, 113 and 124… he’s certainly an option. Adelaide have been semi-restrictive… but at home, Stewart surely goes 120 again… why couldn’t he based on this new MID/DEF role?

Andrew Brayshaw – Brayshaw is coming off 115 and 120 and has a great record at the MCG where he has had 125 this year (against Richmond), 134, 110 and 103 last season. Bombers are a shambles and Brayshaw is hitting top gear.

AFL 2024 Round 02 - Adelaide v Geelong - A-46629157
