Argg me hearties and welcome back… as you can see from below… my top-five were reasonably solid last week but it would have been much better if Gulden had more than 3pts in the final term. A nice 120 would have rounded out that five just nicely. But it wasn’t to be…
No. 1 – Errol Gulden 90
No. 2 – Dayne Zorko 104
No. 3 – Luke Ryan 101
No. 4 – Zach Merrett 120
No. 5 – Josh Dunkley 140
No. 6 – Caleb Serong 77
No. 7 – Tim English 131
No. 8 – Sam Flanders 87
No. 9 – Max Gawn 71
No. 10 – Jordan Clark 98
So back to the drawing board and even though my top-10 was pretty clear cut this week.. ordering them was a different story. Oh well… after hours of research and shuffling, this is where the top-5 have landed.
CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS
No. 1 – Dunkley v WCE
@ Optus, SUN 4:40pm
This guy is a clear cut No.1 option this week. He has been on fire with recent scores of 140, 158 and 118. Recently the Eagles have given up plenty… Rivers 123, Windsor 114… Moore 127, Sicily 113… Laverde 128, Caldwell 126, Stringer 119, Merrett 100… Simpkin 132, Fisher 115. This could get nasty and when it does, Dunkley will be filling his pockets!
No. 2 – Bontempelli v CARL
@ Marvel, SAT 4:35pm
In his last five games under the roof, Bont has scored 126, 142, 93, 159 and 98. He has averaged 110 there this year and meets the Blues whogave up plenty last week. A great VC here with a ceiling to match. He is coming off 100, 126 and 142… scored 118 against the Blues last year, and could have a big day here.
No. 3 – English v CARL
@ Marvel, SAT 4:35pm
Rucks to battle De Koning have scored well in recent weeks. Briggs 136, Sam DeK 100 and Goldy 94 were all huge over against him. English is coming off 131, 96 and 124. A great replacement for Max and someone who has sat at the No. 2 spot over the week. Another great VC.
No. 4 – Walsh v WBD
@ Marvel, SAT 4:35pm
MIDs who have played the Dogs have scored well in recent weeks. Rozee 147, Butters 136… Tucker 118… Young 98 (they lost be heaps)… Neale 128. There is no tag coming Walsh’s way this week as he struggled with that last week for 66. Prior to that he did score 132 and 113. These are his areas this week and this game according to me… should be high scoring with three of my top-4 players in it.
No. 5 – Whitfield v RICH
@ the MCG, SUN 3:20pm
Whit has been killing it with 106, 160, 108, 120 and 123 in his last five games. DEFS Luke Ryan 101 and Clark 98 were only just last week against Richmond but Newman 143 was huge the week before. Could be some rain at the MCG for this one, but the Tigers should be a walk over and the points will be flowing. Also consider Merrett as a ‘safer’ fall-back option if required.
ALSO CONSIDER…
Tom Green v Richmond – The match-up is too good too ignore… Brayshaw 146, Young 105… Walsh 132, Cripps 129 and Kennedy 100 were the most recent to cash in. Green is coming off scores of 107, 106 and 127. He scored 115 against them last year.
Jy Caldwell v Melbourne – Form is elite, averaging 139 in his last three and only Dunkley has been better. Hey… you can VC the guy if you like. Not many will but he is on fire.
Noah Anderson v Port Adelaide – Suns at home win. They haven’t lost this year. In those games, Anderson has averaged 130. Coming off 103 and 140, Anderson could be big here.
