KEY FORWARDS

PLAYERS FOCUS: GREEN v GULDEN

AFL 2023 Round 21 - GWS v Sydney - A-41733602

TOM GREEN (MID, $761,000)

OWNERSHIP – 41%
BREAKEVEN – 106
WEEKLY TRADE INS
– 9.2k
PREVIOUS SCORES – 91, 83, 98

Value! Green has now dropped $237k from his starting price. Yes… there is an injury effected 7pts in there, but at the same time… since he has returned from that ankle injury he has only averaged 91. Those scores you see above in the graphic are scores he had against those teams in 2023 (same as Errol below). On paper, Green is the play to make this week… but his scoring has been mediocre, hence the price. Surely he has rested up and is ready to fire.

ERROL GULDEN (MID, $933,000)

OWNERSHIP – 18.9%
BREAKEVEN – 107
WEEKLY TRADE INS
– 10.1k
PREVIOUS SCORES – 119, 116, 95

Although Gulden isn’t the same value as Green, he has dropped $82k from his starting price and it’s this time of the year when he explodes. Even though he came off his bye last year with a score of 83, he still averaged 118 on his way home. His draw coming up is pretty good and boosted by the match-up this week against the Cats at the SCG.

CALVIN’S VERDICT:

Green travels to Launceston this week and in the past the Hawks haven’t been a happy hunting ground for him as Nash usually gives him attention throughout the day. You can also wait a couple of more weeks and chase other players like Fisher and Gulden… Green has the Hawks, then Port who as we know are one of the toughest teams to score against. Green’s price will not be exploding in the short term so you can grab him a later date if you have other things you’d like to do this week.

Gulden will score more than Green for the remainder of the year. I believe, this is the week to grab Gulden and I’d be doing it over getting Green if the $172k difference isn’t an issue for you. I understand the value side of the argument, however based on form and draw (which is what the scale is)… Gulden is worth paying up for and will be a top-8 MID from this point on, and I can’t say the same about Green with the same amount of confidence.
