Calvin’s Captains – Rd. 13

Challenge: Find a pirate who can pick better captains than Calvin… you just cant!

Welcome one and all to the greatest captains advice in all the land. We have plenty of great options this week with some huge players bringing it home in the final game on Monday… if you can wait this long. I’m suggesting you be patient, aim for a few ceiling scores with your VC before landing on either Big Max or Big Daicos for the King’s Birthday game on the Monday.

MORE CALVIN’S CAPTAINS? This week there is a HUGE game by game review of 2100-plus words covering heaps of players and all the games in our patreon space. It drops every Tuesday and then on Thursday I also have my top-10 (which takes ages) ranked in the order I would captain players for this week. It’s huge, it’s wicked and a must for all Fantasy fans and fanatics.

CALVIN’S TOP-5

No. 1 – Gawn v COLL
@ MCG, MON 3:20pm

Max is averaging 120 in his last three games, which sits him behind Luke Ryan and Jordan Clark during that time. Max has played against Collingwood four times over the last two years and during this time, it’s been Darcy Cameron his main opponent (occasionally supported by Cox). He scored 67pts (played sore – with Jackson) and 152pts (rucked mainly solo – with Jackson) in 2022 and last year he scored 84pts (rucked with Grundy) and 126pts (rucked solo) in the Qualifying Final.

AFL 2023 First Qualifying Final - Collingwood v Melbourne - A-42841837

No. 2 – Marshall v GCS
@ Marvel, SAT 7:30pm

WITTS IS STILL OUT! This means that Rowan will go against Moyle. Marshall was missing my top-10 but this forces my hand in a big way. Marshall had 107 earlier in 2023 against Moyle but then got subbed out (rested). In Moyle’s games this year he as played Bryan 75, Conway 94 and even back in round 2, English had 112.

AFL 2023 Round 04 - St Kilda v Gold Coast - A-17177707

No. 3 – Daicos v MELB
@ MCG, MON 3:20pm

With an average of 122 over the last five games, Daicos has truly been running hot with more MID time. Last week, Freo smacked up the Demons and even though Ryan and Clark were huge, the MIDs did well also with O’Meara 115, Young 108 and Serong 108 also scoring well.

AFL 2023 Round 13 - Melbourne v Collingwood - A-39823047

No. 4 – Flanders v STK
@ Marvel, SAT 7:30pm

Flanders is coming off scores of 113 and 122. Half-backers against the Saints tend to have a day out. Recently we have seen these half-backers score with ease against them…. Duggan 99 (WCE top scorer), Salem 133, Clark 141/Ryan 126, Amon 111/Impey 92. Could be huge.

AFL 2023 Round 18 - Gold Coast v St Kilda - A-40944835

No. 5 – Walsh v ESS
@ the MCG, SUN 7:20pm

Coming off two of the hardest match-ups for MIDs, Walsh put the Scale of Hardness to bed with 133 (Port) and 114 (Suns). A tag from Durham always looms as a threat, but Cripps is also in ripping form himself and he might attract the attention if they play the tagging card.

AFL 2022 Round 13 - Essendon v Carlton - 959276

ALSO CONSIDER…

Weasel #1 Heeney v Geelong – Heeney has scored 4×120+ scores this year and meets a team that have been giving up plenty of points to MIDs. He also averages 114 at home this year and this should be a great match-up for Heeney who is coming off scores of 100, 125 and 106.

Weasel #2 Sheezel v West Coast – Eagles are still an easy team to score against and usually MIDs have a great day. Sheezel is a MID now and even posted 118 and 98 on the Eagles last season. He is should be great here and is coming off scores of 106 and 119.

Rolled laird onto dunkley.
Idk whats going on with laird at the moment, getting old maybe. Thought he may be a sniff against richmond with crouch gone, and that got thrown in my face. Then expected Dunks to put up a solid ton, with 33 in the first quarter, was looking good. Also thrown in my face. Far out.
