The Thursday Scramble: Round 10

Sheez struggling, is Harley our man? Let’s Scramble and find out!

Calvin has killed a weasel, our star rookie is struggling to put up points and Stinklair caught heaps of coaches out!  Clearly time to Scramble!!

What are they thinking?

What is it that the AFL have against us Thursday loving folk?  Why the hell wouldn’t they schedule more games on a Thursday night for the rest of the year. Don’t’ they realise that by sitting down on a Thursday night and watching footy it makes us think that we are already at the weekend rather than having to front up for another day of work on the Friday?  Come on AFL House, get your stuff together, the people want Thurs footy not two games on a Sat avo when many are already busy with local footy! Talk about not reading the room.  Anyway, enough of my rant.

What to do with an ailing Weasel!

Well, Calvin has finally done it, he has ruined our man Harry Sheezel with his constant complaining about him. He isn’t scoring like we wanted and indeed like he was at the start of the season. Now this week I have heard many thoughts about what people are going to do and I figured that now that we are at crunch time and have to make a decision, I would through my two cents in.

Should you trade him? This is a very tempting play. And a very valid one. He has a big BE and his scoring has certainly dropped away. So by trading him down to a fallen premium or even just a cheaper one you can make some good cash to go to someone else and effectively bring in two ‘upgrades’. This would be particularly effective if you have a highly valued rookie that you need to trade out like a Roberts. It still gets a rookie off field (hopefully) and you are getting out of Sheezel and you can still get him back when his price has fallen. This would be the ultimate playing of the breakeven game.

Should you hold him? Again this is a good and valid play. He may have struggled in the last couple of weeks but does that mean that he is going to fail for the rest of the season? Of course it doesn’t. Daicos has a couple of down weeks are you trading him? Or what about Rowan Marshall? He had a down week and look what happened after that! Sheezel is also a chance to revive with McKercher out and he could also move back to the half back role. You got him in as a keeper for the season so there isn’t quite enough evidence for us to move away from this just yet.

Is he your biggest problem? If it is then you have a bloody good team going. But for me I think that moving on your maxed out rookies is far more important, we know that Sheezel can post a big score, but do you think that Roberts has that in him? I don’t think so.

So what is the right answer? Well there isn’t one.  What am I going to do? I am going to hold him. I have bigger issues to deal with (like trading out his mate McKercher).

Is Harley our man?

The boy can play.  God damn he can play and he looks fantastic. However, he has had 5 scores under 60 and his highest score so far is 81. Is this the sort of scoring that we would accept from any other rookie? No I don’t think so. Last year we were spoilt with Sheezel who we were able to keep. So don’t be stubborn and just keep Harley because he is a star ‘real player’ and overlook his fantasy scoring.

For me, I love watching him play and he is going to be a gun but unfortunately he isn’t cutting the mustard in terms of fantasy scoring, so don’t hesitate to dump him from your side.

Things to Remember

  • Byes start in round 12 with Brisbane, North, Sydney and Giants. So if you haven’t started planning yet you have to start right now.
  • Triple Check your teams before each lockout if you can. We need to learn from Calvin’s mate’s cautionary tale where he had Roberts as captain.

Have a brilliant weekend of footy. Bit of a shorter one this week folks, sorry about that, just super busy. But hey, let’s hope that we don’t have any injuries and we get more huge scores!  See you all next Thursday.
