Good evening legends! Calvin’s Captains is here once again for another week. It was a tough round 8 but this one is shaping up to be a little better with some of thee guys below, ready to explode. Good luck… fingers crossed we don’t need it.
Remember, you can catch my Tuesday edition over on our patreon space where I whip up a game by game masterpiece, ready for when my top-10 drop on Thursday at 7pm.
CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS
No. 1 – English v RICH
@ MCG, SAT 7:30pm
English is the No. 2 form player in the game averaging 132 in his last three with scores of 126, 141 and 128. He had 131 and 145 in this game last year and will be awesome again. Recent rucks to take Nank on have scored well with Darcy 60 (43% TOG), Max 134, Williams 57 and Marshall 136 pumping out decent enough numbers to have the big guy clearly as my best and safest 120+ for the week.
No. 2 – Marshall v HAW
@ UTas, SAT 1:45pm
Recent rucks against Meek have scored well with English 126, Grundy 72, Xerri 126 and Witts 91 getting the job done. Marshall is coming off 117, 73 and 62 with some sub-par efforts. He played Meek late last year and posted 114 and will be good again.
No. 3 – Treloar v RICH
@ MCG, SAT 7:30pm
Treloar might appear a little random but I’m thinking he will fill stat lines with ease. He is coming off 113 (1 mark/7 tackles), 83 (0m/3t) and 137 (8m/7t). Last week against the Tigers, Ryan 161, Serong 141, Brayshaw 125 and Young 125 all dominated so fingers crossed he can mark and tackle his way to a huge score here.
No. 4 – Merrett v GWS
@ Marvel , SAT 4:35pm
Last week against the Giants, Heeney 99, Warner 99, Gulden 98 and Rowbottom 94 were ok but what I like here is… they are the four big MIDs at the Swans. However, they just shared the love. Merrett has scored 110, 123 and 103 in recent weeks with a lowest score of 103 this year. Respect!
No. 5 – Serong v SYD
@ Optus , FRI 8:30pm
141 last week against the easy Tigers and although this is tougher…. The Swans have been given up a few to themselves. Serong is in ripping form and had 102 and 113 against the Sydney boys last year. Must rate highly based on form but across all positions Sydney are the second most restrictive.
ALSO CONSIDER….
Nick Daicos v West Coast – Parish 147 (11m), Martin 119 and Merrett 110 all scored well against the Eagles last week and prior to that we saw the Suns have 5×100+ with four of the guys hitting 110+. Daicos is coming off 122 after spending his most time in the middle for 2023.
Sam Flanders v Kangaroos – I’m big on Flanders this week. Last week against the Roos, Sinclair 156, Windhager 112, NWM 104 and Hill 103 all found plenty. In fact, there were 7×100+ scores the Saints took away that day. Flanders had 146 against the Roos late last year.
Jordan Dawson v Brisbane – Ranked #3 on form averaging 126 in his last three, Dawson meets a team here he scored 91 (GABBA) and 135 (AO) against last year. Could be anything… High risk, high reward for this guy.
Who is most important out, yeo, Robert’s, Caldwell, Macrae, Harley, clohesy, Powell. Who do they go to, and should I trade non playing bench rookies instead. I got 129k in the bank.
What about Bailey Dale vs Richmond or Zorko vs Adelaide
Hmmm.. no thanks.. I will take Walshy vs Melbourne.
Thanks Capt Hindsight
I vc Gawn over Walsh, to watch Walsh kill it and asking is Gawn’s score of 109 big enough to take?
When I can go Heeney, Xerri, Serong, Martin
Flanders, Bontempelli, Dale, Daicos and Sinclair
All could beat the 109 score?
same boat, but after last week, i’m taking the 109.. Daicos was my C, which he should pass easily, but can’t help but worry about injury and/or him taking it easy in what is likely a big win..
Merrett, Flanders, Touk, Serong, Bolton, Heeney & Warner all went between 105 & 112
Gulden, Rowell, Martin & Parish the only 4 in the last 5 games that have gone above 112 (as a mid) and Parish the only BIG score..
risk (for me) is to high vs a return of an additional 5-15 points
If you are in the top 1,000 take gawns 109, otherwise Iike myself I am around 5,000 I will chase daicos score. Surely he’s good for 100 so if got that you are not losing much, but then he’s also a chance to go larger. I would avoid Flanders in the slop that will be Darwin. Just imo
No love for the Bont vs Tigers?
Butters v Geel tonight?
Calvin calling Zorko a trap over at afl.com.au. What a selfish, selfish man, he just wants Zorko all for himself. lol
Are we taking Gawn’s 109? It’s a safe move but I’m tempted to let it roll on Daicos. Dilemma.
I’m not, it’s 130 or bust for me, lol
Will Jayden hunt tag Daicos?
Still asking Calvin for advice LOL
Still living in your grandmother’s basement LOL
