G‘Day there legends. Firstly, thanks for turning this space around into more of a positive one. It started the year filled with negative dudes just flinging shit but seems to have gone and now it’s back to the way it should be.
This week we have some ripper options, and some walk up VC options with easy as “fall-back Captains” options coming after. I honestly can’t see how this fails… but hey, I bet I have said that before.
Also remember you can catch more of my work with the FULL write up of Calvin’s Captains and a weekly Scale of Hardness over in our patreon space. If you haven’t yet, go check it out.
Thanks guys and good luck!
CALVIN’S TOP-5 CAPTAINS
No. 1 – Sheezel v STK
@ Marvel , SAT 4:35pm
The Diesel Sheezel Weasel tops the list and rightfully so. Saints are the No. 1 easiest team overall and this guy ranks No. 1 on based on his average of 125. He scored 116 and 98 against the Saints but can you remember what the Dogs did to the Saint two weeks ago? This is what we can expect here…. Dale 160 (15 marks), Treloar 137 (7 marks), Macrae 129 (6 marks), JJ 126 (12 marks)… seriously? Make him your VC… but honestly you won’t need anything else. Another 150 could be on the cards…. maybe 200.
No. 2 – Gawn v GEEL
@ the MCG, SAT 7:30pm
134, 149, 109 and 146 is brilliant form from the big fella ranking him No. 1 over the last three weeks. He played against Stanley last year and scored 84 (with Grundy), then in 2022 he had 70 (with Luke Jackson) and back in 2021 he got the solo gig and had 139. Now that was a long time ago, but recent rucks to go against Stanley have been great with DeKoning 86/Pittonet 77, Xerri 107, English 93 and ROB 102 all scoring well.
No. 3 – Merrett v WCE
@ Optus , SAT 8:10pm
Merrett has averaged 117 this year and meets a team that traditionally give up plenty. Merrett scored 128 and 111 against them last year and even posted 109 and 111 from his two games in Perth. Juicy match up for a guy in hot form.
No. 4 – English v HAW
@ Marvel , SUN 4:00pm
141 and 128 is what you can expect from English when he isn’t rucking solo with Sam Darcy. Grundy 72, Xerri 126 and Witts 91 have been good enough against Meek to think he’ll be good again.
No. 5 – Gulden v GWS
@ the SCG, SAT 1:45pm
No. 5 man based on form averaging 116 in his last three. He is coming 120, 100 and 127 and even had 132 and 116 against the Swans last year. Recently against the Giants… Brisbane had just one ton (Dunkley 100) against them and before that we saw Cripps 126, Walsh 101… and Hill 150, Steele 122 all score well.
OTHERS TO CONSIDER…
Tom Green v Sydney – He loves playing against the Swans with scores of 141 and 136 last year.
Sam Flanders Brisbane – Yep… he’s here again after averaging 121 in his last three which ranks him at No. 3.
Sam Walsh v Collingwood – Against the Magpies last week Merrett 123, McGrath 123, Martin 113 and Parish 107 all cashed in.
SMOKIE ALERT
Bailey Dale v Hawthorn – Find a Bulldog taking MARKS and you’ll be on a winner here. Sydney had seven playerds take 9+ marks against the Hawks last week as the Swans had 4×120+ scores. Dale took 9 last week for his 134 and 15 marks when he had 160. Seriously… a huge chance to be the week’s highest scorer alongside Sheezel. Yep – that is Dale is smoke… ha ha c’mon I tried.
